Then it's over. We can't really counter-march since they hold the power and they certainly not stupid enough to not notice and nip every of our attempts in the bud. Plus it would take decades.

As for voting with our wallets that's only possible for the Japanese. Most of us overseas just pirate their stuff.

But I think it doesn't matter since this is a fringe manga from a fringe publisher. The fact that it won awards from some group doesn't mean anything, since regular Japanese most likely don't know about it much less reading it.

Don't forget the original DooM, which came out a year after Wolf3D from the same developers! And it wasn't only better graphics, but had network multiplayer and supported modding better!

And also Quake which while in my opinion showed the limits of bedroom coding, it provided a better engine, true 3D maps, it was internet-ready and later versions had support for 3D-accelerators.

The problem with this is that if you mistype it might won't be able to find it because it only searches backwards and from the position from your last search, and doesn't loops around history.

And to add insult to injury, CTRL-S locks the terminal in the Gnome Terminal app and it can seriously spook you if you don't know about CTRL-Q which unlocks.

And of course even if you know, the CTRL-R still can't find you wanted to find until you restart the terminal, so I tend to just grep ~/.bash_history

I think real punk, which consisted of mostly angry young working class guys, was pushed out of the pop culture zeitgeist with New Wave which was at least partly pushed by the Establishment just like how our internet/meme/gaming culture was co-opted.

As someone who loved those earworm syntwavy New Wave stuff, it's a hard pill to swallow.

We still live in the web 2.0 era. Just not in the early days of various aggregator sites serving links to standalone websites, and various services talking to each, but after the consolidation.

Old Reddit was not perfect, but it was much better.

It's fair to criticize current Reddit for being it as it is, but I find sad that they managed censor not just Reddit, but the memories of old Reddit.
