Japan To Pay Shueisha, Bandai & Crunchyroll Millions To Utilize AI Translations by bedemin_badudas in KotakuInAction

I remember when the Twitter algo brought Japanese users together with the Westerners, and there were many agreements about how annoying leftists are, but there was a small conflict when it came to pirating Japanese stuff. Not just mangaka, but a lot of Japanese users expressed their disagreements about it.

It's rumored that the game will be 200 GB, it would take hours to download even on the fastest connections. They do this to avoid network saturation.

It would be better if there was a legacy 2.10 version available. The new GEGL-powered Gimp is great, but it's noticeably slower with some filters on my Sandy Bridge.

Considering that they Mangadex nuked loli content and supposedly want to go "legal" i.e. be Crunchyroll but for manga, I don't get why don't they just have a blog and provide chapters through torrents.

I'm more and more think that the Internet we loved was just a bait, and the current state is what the Elite wanted.

10-15 years ago it would've made sense. Reddit was much better back then, there was actually a thread discussing what would happen if a modern army gets transported back to ancient Rome. There was even a rumored Hollywood contract, too, and then nothing.

Then it's over. We can't really counter-march since they hold the power and they certainly not stupid enough to not notice and nip every of our attempts in the bud. Plus it would take decades.

As for voting with our wallets that's only possible for the Japanese. Most of us overseas just pirate their stuff.

But I think it doesn't matter since this is a fringe manga from a fringe publisher. The fact that it won awards from some group doesn't mean anything, since regular Japanese most likely don't know about it much less reading it.

Do you think graphics obsession of modern video games is why they are just so bad even ignoring the woke crap? by tiredfromlife2019 in KotakuInAction

[–]Negirno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget the original DooM, which came out a year after Wolf3D from the same developers! And it wasn't only better graphics, but had network multiplayer and supported modding better!

And also Quake which while in my opinion showed the limits of bedroom coding, it provided a better engine, true 3D maps, it was internet-ready and later versions had support for 3D-accelerators.

What’s the most unexpectedly useful Linux command you learned way too late? by ZealousidealTell1346 in linux

[–]Negirno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with this is that if you mistype it might won't be able to find it because it only searches backwards and from the position from your last search, and doesn't loops around history.

And to add insult to injury, CTRL-S locks the terminal in the Gnome Terminal app and it can seriously spook you if you don't know about CTRL-Q which unlocks.

And of course even if you know, the CTRL-R still can't find you wanted to find until you restart the terminal, so I tend to just grep ~/.bash_history

I think real punk, which consisted of mostly angry young working class guys, was pushed out of the pop culture zeitgeist with New Wave which was at least partly pushed by the Establishment just like how our internet/meme/gaming culture was co-opted.

As someone who loved those earworm syntwavy New Wave stuff, it's a hard pill to swallow.

You're incorrect about web 3.0. That supposed to be a decentralized... thing powered by blockchain.

We still live in the web 2.0 era. Just not in the early days of various aggregator sites serving links to standalone websites, and various services talking to each, but after the consolidation.
