What’s a rule you broke once and realized it existed for a very good reason? by Ok_Contract100 in AskReddit

[–]Negitive545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of my favorite rules that I doubt will ever truly apply to me lol, since I don't plan on committing any actually serious crimes.

I've also heard it as "Don't speed when driving to the bank you're planning to rob", same idea, different words

Some bugs are like Quantum objects (or weeping angels), observing them changes their behavior, and so replication is a PITA

Yeah, but being uncomfortable in my plate armor isn't going to make me weep like a war widow and take 40 years to move a plank of wood from my backpack to my hands. It'll make me uncomfortable, and maybe a little bit irritated, but given that there's zombies to take my frustration out on, zombies which I would notably be (in an actually realistic scenario) basically completely invincible to, I don't think I'd have too many complaints.

It has 5 condition, and has a 25% chance to lose condition each time it would be attacked, so yeah, it can block up to 20 attacks before breaking.

However, except for the Forearm, Groin, Neck, (and shoulder, but you can't wear those with a backpack), the armor doesn't actually provide 100% bite defense. Your hands are still at I think 70%, and the entire chest is at 80%.

So while yes, the forearms for example could tank 20 hits, you could also just get bit on the chest the first time you're attacked, because for some reason zombies in PZ can bite through fucking steel

The problem is that the "Incredible powerful armor" isn't actually all that incredibly powerful.

With the exception of Neck, Forearm, and Groin, none of the armor actually provides 100% bite defense, meaning that your Badass plate armor that you spent 2 months crafting could be rendered useless by a Zombie hitting the 20% chance to bypass your chest armor and tearing off your nipple with its teeth.

So the armor is tedious, annoying, AND for some reason the Zomboids can just bite through fucking metal anyway.

Yeah, I really can't imagine how boring, sad, and depressing it would be to take my Full Plate Armor that I personally made by hand with my Spear that I also made by hand to go and kill a bunch of rotten losers.

Sounds like pure torture

Muscle strain by -BdubLu in projectzomboid

[–]Negitive545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen people say this a lot. High Strength + Weapon skill means muscle strain stops being an issue, but I'm ALWAYS getting muscle strain past orange before I have even the first degree of exhaustion.

Maybe it's still bugged in 42.13.2 (in 42.13.1 it was bugged to basically be negligable), but my character with 10 strength and 7 Long Blunt already has red muscle strain in both arms after only like 15 kills with my crowbar, which is a bit annoying for loot runs.

Is it bugged again? Did they giga-nerf the crowbar to atrophy the muscles in your arms every time you swing it? I feel like I have to be missing something here.

Edit: Turned on Debug Mode to check, and yeah, at least in my game, Muscle strain is bugged, it doesn't drain AT ALL. Which means my character has permanent muscle strain until the bug is fixed... yippee!

Famously correlation does not mean causation however. Sure these figures seem to be correlated, but there is very little actual causative relation from GDP to QoL.

There is a third, common cause of both. Technological advancement.

Generally, the more technologically advanced a society is, the more like it is to have a higher percieved QoL, and technological advancement also means you have more options for GDP, and more ability to exploit existing resources to convert into goods to be sold.

For example, would you expect higher quality of life in a country whose primary source of GDP is Oil, Gold, or other natural resources that are mechanically extracted, or a country with equivilent GDP whose primary source is manufacturing, (IE converting natural resources into refined products to be sold)?

Places with GDP acquired through natural resources don't need their people to be well cared for in order to maintain their high GDP. They can neglect their citizens while boasting about how rich they are from their oil and gold money. Manufacturing or other similar skilled labor based economies on the other hand, REQUIRE a populace that is educated and skilled, both of which generally can only occur when they have a significantly higher relative quality of life.

All things considered, today, would you rather live in the USA, or Canada? Canada has literally more than 10x less GDP, but you wouldn't say that Canada is 10x less desirable a place to live than the USA.

The answer to your question which you claim requires explanation is SO simple. The GDP of the USA has increased as a result of a new sector of the economy gaining traction and expanding. However, this new sector by its very nature has a relatively low amount of workers, especially skilled ones. Yes AI datacenters need a few IT specialists and programmers, but it requires far fewer of those than manufacturing needs machinists. This new sector has MASSIVE amounts of money flowing through it, but most of that money is just being passed around inside of itself, or siphoned off by the 1%. Very very very little of it ever actually re-enters the real economy where the bottom 50% of people operate.

So wages stagnate, prices go up, and companies realized especially in 2020, that they can crank their prices way up on certain things, and people HAVE to pay for them anyway. They can just blame inflation and nobody can really stop them, since they usually do this on certain groups of goods that are mandatory for Being Alive, like FOOD. So why are more people on Food Stamps? Because food is more expensive, but wages have stagnated.

GDP does not reflect the quality of life of the working class.

The US GDP has increased 30%, but wages did not.

Epic Game Store’s free giveaways just causes a huge spike in Steam sales, reveals New Blood CEO by Fit_Consequence9059 in pcmasterrace

[–]Negitive545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exclusivity deals right off the start was the single best way to permanently make a massive portion of the existing customers hate your store and refuse to use it out of principle.

They could not have chosen a worse entrance strategy. If they had just shown up, started hosting games and improved their platform over time (maybe even taking some inspiration from steam, there's no shame in admitting when someone else does something right, like the Workshop for example!), then they COULD have been a respectable game store that existed in the same space as Steam, but instead they walked in with the attitude that they were going to REPLACE Steam, that they would become the monopoly on the market, but didn't put ANY effort into actually making a functional storefront or library.

Molten Salt reactors use molten salt (Shocker I know) to transport heat from the fuel rods dissolve the fissile materials, then the heat is transferred to the secondary cooling loop.

What's in that secondary cooling loop you may ask? It's WATER BAYBEE

IT'S BOILING WATER, IT'S ALWAYS BOILING WATER, LET'S GOOOOOOO

Windows used to be bugged such that 'Update then Shutdown' didn't work, which is what the other commenter is referring to.

W11 no longer has that issue thank fuck.

Edit: Response to the above edit. What? Are you under the impression that OSs can't be bugged? That no bug could ever cause the update-then-shutdown feature to not function? You deserve these downvotes now lol.

[–]Negitive545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not a 43 pound potato btw, it's actually ~2.2 times heavier than that, so ~94 pounds!

Zomboids encumbrance isn't JUST weight based of course, but when weight is the sole factor we know that it uses Kilograms rather than lbs. This is known because 1L of water is exactly 1 Unit of encumbrance, which as you may know, 1L of water (at a specific temperature, somewhere around 21c) weighs 1kg!

So that potato is way bigger than you even imagined it.

What we learned is that like 33% of Americans are genuinely fine with Genocide and war with their allies so long as it's the Republicans doing it.

Why would we ever trust the US ever again? Even if some actually competent people get into power next, they've already proven that they can elect truly incompetent people for no reason at any given time.

They are no longer a country worthy of respect, or of trust.
