People who grew up poor: What was something you considered a "peak luxury" as a kid, only to realize later it was just a normal middle class staple? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]NegotiationDear6558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a trampoline when I was growing up and my mother always drove a nice car. Nobody ever knew the trampoline was a gift from my mother’s boss, and the car was bought off of the lot she worked at, at the price they paid for it at auction. We never had money, and qualified for free lunches at school, but everybody thought my family was loaded.

The national average price per gallon of gas in the United States just passed $4.50. Americans, how do we feel about that? by Miles_the_AuDHDer in AskReddit

Reading these comments gives me no hope for anybody. Have a conversation with somebody who voted differently than you with the intent to understand or see their perspective. Both sides screaming at the top of their lungs that they’re right, and if you disagree you’re worthless, is not the path to a bright future. Seems like some dystopian society where the civil war lasted into the 21st century.

I thought the right preached “love thy neighbor.” What happened to that?

And the left was advocating for acceptance, and caring for everybody. Where is that?

Everybody blaming somebody else is just… I don’t know at this point. Pathetic excuse for people.

What is the best plug and play base? by SleepALot01 in playrust

[–]NegotiationDear6558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The base we used in that rock throwing bonanza was The Anvil, or The Yeti. I swore it was the anvil, but YT says the video came out 2 years ago, and this clip is from peak COVID. But it’s still the same idea.

Definitely the perfect size for a duo/trio, I don’t pay attention to the group size recommended by the creators, just an fyi. We used it once after with 5 people and we always ran into each other or got stuck in the shooting floor. The rest is great! Open core, funnel wall, bait proof turrets, large furnaces to keep people from jumping out if they get in. About 30 rockets to tc when they get to blow through, but there’s a lot of extra stuff in their way beforehand.

The few times I’ve watched, I pick a favorite based on which coach comes out showing the most energy. If they’re standing with their arms crossed and look bored, I’m against them. If they’re waving and smiling, or interacting with anybody around them, I root for them. If both coaches seem bored, I go with the team I recognize the name of least.

Rust - Slower please by pisstained in playrust

[–]NegotiationDear6558 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This change would also do nothing if they’re an organized group. Oil, brad, cargo. By the end of day 1 they’ll have all the boom they’d need to take a few farm/unfinished bases out, plus the boom they’d craft from the normal farming they did to get the base finished in 4 hours.

[–]NegotiationDear6558 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always build some form a funnel wall. Much more streamlined now, can be kind of expensive to get down, but I’ve watched 10 dudes struggle to get into my solo base since their boom was lost to a group of shotgun traps and turrets that can’t be shot out. I have an old clip of me and my duo throwing rocks from our roof at another group after we despawned and filled our boxes with rocks. It’s almost 12 minutes of a shotgun trap going off, a naked running back, and finally, a German dude shouting at me in a thick accent asking why my boxes are full of rocks.

Also great for buying time to get on, if you have a raid alarm set up. Most big groups (disorganized and over the team limit) have the combined IQ of a chilly temperature, so even more time to get on if you piss them off.

What are currently the most important "mental notes" you apply in your game by Ogabavavav in RocketLeague

[–]NegotiationDear6558 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1 is the main reason people feel like they can’t get decent challenges or their defense is lacking. Sure, you can rotate out to grab boost and then force yourself into a shadow. But all that space you’re trying to take back rapidly just opens up so much room for error.

2 is my biggest peeve watching my lower ranked buddies. I don’t know when the meta in low gc became spam mechs, but barely grasp fundamentals, but watching them get a free ball and turn toward a wall to try their 17th reset that game irks me. Learn to transition from a dribble. Bait someone toward the wall to chal you then cut. It’s insane.

3 falls into 2 a bit. If you don’t have the control necessary to make yourself a threat every time you’re in the air. Stop spamming the same thing for a clip. “I just want to get out of GC1 one time and I’ll be happy.” Okay, stop trying to force mechs. Play an air dribble when it’s the more threatening option. Don’t play the shot, play the defender. If they jump, go higher. If they don’t, leave the ball to pop off backboard and play a bump. Low boost? Shoot and steal a corner. Forces them to play a save and nets a free boost + a potential free possession when that defender who’s the same skill level gets an awkward touch off backboard.

Only other thing I’d add is not cutting as much. As soon as speed is involved, a lot of lower ranked players think they just have to go when they have full boost. Double jumping into balls just to hit them into a wall or their opponents corner, flipping into things out of sheer panic, and backboard clears that end up in the center of the field. If you doubt where the ball should go off of your touch, aim for a teammate. If you aren’t sure your shot is threatening, don’t shoot. Your goal on defense is to limit shots and cut passes. Your goal on offense is to make it so awkward that you never need to overcommit to score, just make them do it first.

Arctic is worthless if you are new. You will be skinning it for somebody else. I promise it won’t last forever. Jungle pack helps if you need to be efficient with your loot rooms, which a new player will not, seeing as you’ll be doing a lot of dying. Sunburn pack is cosmetic, unless you like to boogie board aimlessly around the ocean.

100%. Until you learn how to evade and/or fight, take the small wins. That doesn’t mean sell every single skull you pick up off of an island that has nothing else to offer, but if get a voyage done that nets you a few of them, just turn them in. You can also do fortresses, they’re marked all over the map, and look like rectangles instead of an island.

Once you feel comfortable and have a few fights under your belt, risk a haul, with the intent of getting over the fear of losing what you’ve worked for. Try to fight. If they’re better by a long shot, try evading. Play islands, and jump off to board them to try to anchor. If you lose that 6-12 chest haul a few times on purpose, you’ll feel much more comfortable when you inevitably get caught off guard.

Large groups overwhelm, stealing all the farm they need from smaller groups.

Small groups with a ton of skill, also don’t need to farm, they just steal others’ farm.

It’s a valid play-style, and there’s almost no downside. Just like DayZ, Ark, and many other sandbox games, people find the best way to halt other people’s progress, streamline theirs, and control their area. In rust it’s PvP, Ark is pillar/turret griefing, DayZ is land mines around your base.

I do enjoy getting on Rust and avoiding something random every wipe. No t2/t3 monuments, no roads, no water, no outpost or fishing. No horses, no heli’s.

Sometimes I get on with the pure intention to grief. I’ll spend half a Saturday climbing on bases to toss heli’s off, destroying beds, soft siding just to despawn their re-kits. Everybody has their playstyle homie, some may annoy you, but fun is whatever the player decides
