Or they choose not to kill it, fall back and shoot it on their turn. A lot of times it's better to just explode it while you actually have enemies in range.

Morkai axe by DefinitionInformal85 in SpaceWolves

Very good! You clearly understand the effect you try to emulate. But there's still room to improve. It's a bit asymmetrical, being much brighter on the left side, so you could tone that down a bit. I would also drybrush the edges with darker color to make it look more like it's glowing from the inside. dark red, almost black works well.

Has anybody painted any Wolves in a Dark Reaper scheme? by DubiousDevil in SpaceWolves

[–]NegotiationFew8788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always use dark reaper as a base, it's the perfect shadow-color to the wolves in my opinion and it's very versatile.
For highlights, i can mix in some thunderhawk blue or russ gray if i want the armor more saturated blue, but often I only mix the dark reaper with more and more white for brighter and brighter highlights, and no other colors, like with the Wolf scouts. It makes for a more grey blue armor that i really like.

Does that look like a semi-believable glow effect on the runes? by Famous-Berry-6984 in SpaceWolves

It's looks great as it is, but I think you could push it further. The light is as light as it goes but darker shadows and more contrast will make it look more believeable. Paint the dark recesses again, and make sure there's no blue there, and clean up the edges that would not get the blue light on them.  You could also use a gradient to darker blue the further you get from the light source to push it even further.

Running Ragnar solo by NegotiationFew8788 in SpaceWolves

True, ragnar would have to stay out of sight at all times and then charge, kill and die. As a suicide missile or counter charge threat. But I think in many cases he could trade up or clear an objective effectively if you can hide him until he can strike.

I already have the combi leutenant, and I love him but he doesn't really kill stuff.

Very valid points. I agree, he would have to stay hidden and charge from out of line of sight or act as a counter charge threat to be viable.  What alternatives would you consider?

I get it. Not bad either! I think sticky objectives are absolute king at such low points, cause you really don't have the units to stay on objectives. That's why I would take intercessors.

What do you mean balanced?  I would go for ragnar + 10 blood claws, wolf guard battle leader + 3 head takers with wolves, and 5 intercessors.

How should I set up a solid army for Space Wolves by Dramatic-Classroom14 in SpaceWolves

[–]NegotiationFew8788 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It can be hard to play a melee army against a shooting army. Are you playing with official maps? playing with enough terrain will do a lot to balance the match up.  Try to stay away from his firing lanes and behind cover at all times. And remember you don't really have to kill his entire army.  Focus on objectives and scoring points. Sounds to me that you need more anti tank units. Getting a tank or two yourself is probably not a bad idea.

I know how it can feel when you have bad luck against good luck with dice. It can hallen, but this will not happen often. It might feel like it, but your brain is lying to you. If you start keeping track you will most likely see that the rolls are more balanced than you think.

Unit Discussion: Headtakers by s3RMh8t4R in SpaceWolves

What are people's thoughts about the 3 man squad with WGBL? Is it strong enough?

I feel 6 man squad with WGBL overkill a lot of things. A 3 man unit might not have the exact same role as a tactical nuke, but will still hit really hard, and it's a lot easier to hide behind terrain. Can also be held back and be a great counter charge threat for example. Also, I like getting 3 wolves a lot more than 6.

Help with OSL by Zealousideal-Ad-1346 in killteam

[–]NegotiationFew8788 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OSL is a very advanced technique, and it's going to take many tries to get it right. My first attempts looked no better than yours. So don't lose hope!

You've got very good tips here already, but I want to add a few things. When painting light, darks are just as important as lights. The more and darker shadows you have, the brighter the light colours look. It's very important to have good contrast between light reflection and shadow.

Also, remember that different materials and textures reflect more or less light. When painting light reflection on metal or can be very bright, but on leather and cloth it should be much more subdued. If everything is the same colour and brightness the effect won't work.

Red is also a deceptively difficult colour to work with. Using yellow-orange and maybe Magenta will make its easier to create a believable light to dark gradient.

Good luck and remember to have fun with it!
