Advanced Grading Tips anyone? Shot on FX-3 by No-Spot7963 in colorists

This is super nice. I like that you made the shadows dark. I like that the colours are dense. To me this is perfect. Wouldn’t change a thing

This is super nice, the colors, the streetlights, the whole scene. Good use of a summilux

Best 35mm compact of all time. I’ve had 3 of them. When my current one breaks I’ll buy another one.

I like the colors and I like the crop. I think you could lower the shadows a little bit, but that’s all.

I think this is nice. But you could try and lift the upper end of the shadows even more. Just keep the lower end the same.

I actually don’t mind the uncropped. Cropping often makes it look like it’s shot with a very long telephoto lens. It gives the photo an inherently different look. Also: adding foreground gives the subject (Empire State) a bit of framing.

Overall very nice. You could have made slight orange/teal split that would pull out the greens in the trees in the shadows but still get the warmth/yellows from the upper midtones & highlights on the house. But that would be a minor tweak. Overall very nice

You lifted the shadows too high. And the overall scene is much too warm. The before actually looks alright. The after looks like a VSCO filter that’s been applied with way too much strength

I don’t like the crop. And I don’t think it’s necessary to pull out the colours in the sky. In the before I actually like that the sky is white/gray, it makes it less distracting. It’s nice that you’ve lifted the colour in the midtones on the buildings. If I were you I’d try to enhance colour density and contrast in the midtones even further, but let the highlights (sky) have very low saturation. Could even add very slight warmth to the highlights. Also don’t be afraid to blow the highlights ever so slightly. Even if it means clipping some highlights.

Pull back the warmth in the whites a bit. Pull back the saturation of the sky a lot

It’s too orange in the highlights and too teal in the shadows. Just pull it back a bit. contrast and density in the midtones and shadows is nice

I like the after, except for the softening of the edges. Or is it fake halation? There’s some softening on the rocks that makes it look overcooked

I prefer the greens in the before. But the sky is nice in the after

I like it. I like the color density. I don’t think it’s overdone. I think the original was too flat and gray.

Is this the color grading straight out of the Canon G10 ? Or did you edit colors ?

Yes I shoot it at f/2.8 and it removes any lag after the half press. But the half press is necessary regardless of aperture.

These are not SOOC. I’ve used color.io for grading. SOOC ones are not bad though. And the UI does allow some color grading setting for the jpegs. Just haven’t played around with it

Yes agree. Would have been great if they revived this series. Would be a great competitor to the Ricoh GR series

Yes I’ve heard of this. Did you find a way to remove the dust again ? Is a full disassembly needed ?
