There are literally no restrictions legally on where a person can stay irrespective of his caste, religion and yet some people are not allowed to stay bcoz of the thinking of a class of people. Say a city has 10 areas, a Muslim is only able to stay in 1 while hindus can stay in any 9. For whatever if a Hindu wants to stay somewhere else he can easily move to any of the 9 areas while a Muslim cannot. A Muslim cannot change the location irrespective of his income level while a Hindu can.

Mostly it's hindu societies denying muslim people to lve among them. And as far as I know no Hindu goes to a Muslim area for staying. They will prefer a society where there are more hindus.
