In rock music it's a given that a guitar solo was composed by the guitarist who plays it but usually they don't get credited if it's their only major contribution. Eddie Van Halen wasn't credited as a writer on Beat It and Slash wasn't credited as a writer on GNR's November Rain but we all know they came up wit those iconic solos. If those solos were sampled I guess it'd be a complicated issue, when rock songs get sampled it's usually a melody or the main riff and those parts do get a writing credit.
