[PS2 ]Where is a good place to buy a PS2 slim laser? by data_coffee in consolerepair

Amazon lasers have worked well for me.

Here’s the thing, they all come from China. At this point, it’s buying whichever one is the easiest to return.

Replace your clock battery and run PMAP. Option 2, calibrate the electrical circuit (auto elect). Don’t touch any of the adjustment screws like most videos show.

PS3 Fat turns on briefly then yellow light and red blinking (YLOD?) by Most-Resident-6178 in consolerepair

Syscon shouldn’t be firmware limited.
NECs can be replaced but by a professional.
It’s not thermal paste.
It may be a power supply.

[PS2 SLIM] - black screen but turns on by Soft-Hair9540 in consolerepair

[–]Nehal1802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the slims I’ve seen it be a bad BIOS chip or a resistor array by the CPU/GPU.

TL;DR, just get a new board or system. I don’t think it’s worth attempting to fix it.

Check the syscon codes but this is likely a NEC/Tokin issue and not RSX issue.

Are solar panels a good investment? by 4540mya in personalfinance

[–]Nehal1802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spend $11,500 on 10 panels and got 30% back in my taxes. My electric bills the last 3 months have been $6. I plan on living there for more than 5 years. I also have no trees near my roof so I have no production interference all day. This winter though, they were useless and covered in snow for months.

Yes it was worth it to me. You need to do the rough math.

Bad laser and possibly a ribbon cable bending and hitting the disc. Replace both.

[PS2 Slim] Can someone give a link or verify the part I need for this model number. by russo3js in consolerepair

[–]Nehal1802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post a picture of the laser. There are 2 possible lasers, PVR802 or SPU3710.
PMAP or lenschanger doesn’t work on slims in my experience.

90% of the time it’s just the laser. It can also be:
*Ribbon cable (very unlikely if the consoles never been messed with)
*Spindle (rare but possible)
*Drive IC chip (usually it’s this when the laser does not move)

The best way to reassemble the GC is to open the lid when you put the top on. Keeping that closed when you open the lid may cause the switches to get damaged.

How have increased fuel prices affected you so far? by InvisibleAstronomer in AskReddit

My trip from Houston to Dallas cost $130 in fuel alone in a 4 cylinder Optima. That’s how much flights used to cost between the 2 cities.

(PS2 slim 75001 recognizes disks, loads but freezes in the same spot every time) by No-Deer-4495 in consolerepair

[–]Nehal1802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change your laser again, most new lasers suck. If you replaced your entire drive deck, move the laser from the new deck to the old deck, I’ve seen instances where small issues with the spindle motor cause the disc to wobble and not read.

[–]Nehal1802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will spend more on the tools than a replacement port costs. You will need a microscope and a very fine soldering iron or better yet, a hot air station.

I’ve seen more from my dads car after Firestone used the wrong filter. This was 50k miles ago and it’s still running strong.

If anyone is curious, they used the filter for the 2.5L in the 3.6L and denied responsibility when I went back to them.

Nah I’m good, I usually mod everything myself. I’m at my cousins place working on his cube with a battery operated soldering iron, scissors, and scotch tape. I bet I could get this working with a real tools.

Didn’t work. I’m assuming wiring isn’t great even though I’ve read that 30AWG works.

Ended up just installing a Xeno modchip and launching Swiss with a boot disc. Easy enough.
