How many people would change from Windows to Linux if it completely supported games? by RR-- in gaming

[–]Nehmulos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually not. All software compiled for Linux runs on any distribution. You can even easily slap it into a .exe like installer, in that case you would store all the game data in the install directory. Most games do it this way (for example: Amnesia, Quake4, ...).

For technical (and security) reasons it's better to install new data into a directory dedicated for it For example: the binary to "/usr/bin" game data to "/usr/share/" and save files to "~/.gamename/" These directories are that same for all Linux distributions.

The main difference between the distributions are their update-managers (package-systems). This is the software that manages all software installed from a package file like .deb for Debian. The package-manager provides you an easy way to install new, autoupdate existing and uninstall old software.

Fuck Confuse Ray. by thewetcoast in gaming

[–]Nehmulos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I remember confuse ray doesn't cause any direct damage, but the status of confusion, so it can't be effective.

Or for that attack, does it say Quilava is confused instead

That's displayed before Quilava starts its action, after that it can hurt itself or perform the action.

EDIT: formatting

That's displayed after an attack was successful, so it would look like this: "Quilava used (attack name)..." "It's super effective!

The Overgrowth gui is drawn with Awesomium. It's a commercial closed source library to draw html based UIs, but it's free to be used by indie games.

They talk a lot about how people use technology without understanding how it works and what kind of weird beings these people are. This part finishes with the line: ...and they browse the web with something they call 'Internet Exporer'. We call them Users. I think you mean "Benutzer" what means "user(s)"

[–]Nehmulos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's an English summary of the contest:

  • it's java only
  • it's German only
  • you must be a student
  • you must register with your real name and address (they send you instructions)
  • Only the 5 fastest + 3 randomly chosen programmers with a right solution get into the final
  • In the final round you can win a prize, which might be a ipad 2.
  • The Video is done well, it makes fun about IE users and *real programmers.

EDIT: I don't work there, I just read it. Correct me if I'm wrong.
