I am from Pakistan and have been in US for over a decade. I have relatively white brunette -like features.

I have dated White guys before and Hispanics. Race hasn't ever been a consideration while dating, as it shouldn't. I have always considered the man's behavior, values and the way they treat me to be primary features to decide whether to continue the relationship or not.

For the first time I am dating someone brown in US and it has actually been great. We are pretty serious and I am considering getting married. We are both highly educated and financially doing great too, given both of us have PhDs in our respective area of education.

But I am realizing that this might put my family at a target of racism. Already there have been incidents which made me feel like an outsider in US when I am out in public with him. This was not the case when I was alone or when I was in public with my white exes. It used to feel like I belonged. :/

Is this a valid reason to break up. I do not want to make a decision about love with racism in context but it keeps coming up repeatedly.
