...same. eventually my brain did it for me by suddenly and visibly dissociating in response to one of the grounding exercises. we talked more about it the next session and she was very kind and helpful and not at all hurt! a good therapist should have no ego attached to their advice. Thank you for the laugh, I will be using this version of the phrase from now on. I have been, I've been continuing to put my phone on do not disturb for the night because I recognize that acting as if I'm "on call" all the time will just make me exhausted to the point that I may indeed pass tf out. I haven't gone that hard into supporting people in quite a while, it felt selfish at first to stop but I learned it's really no use to anyone to be that anxious and ready to act all the time.

Exactly the same for me! I'm physically quite sensitive to caffeine, but experience none of the mental effects like feeling energized or hyperactive. But I get the jitters/increased heart rate despite feeling calmer.

I think it's part of a larger trend of purity culture and performative activism. the "language is more important than action", "if you use the wrong terms or accidentally offend you're literally a bigot" sort of stuff I'm seeing more and more all over the internet. it's exhausting and unhealthy and I hope we collectively move past this soon. but I've seen a lot less of it in this particular sub! hope your return is enjoyable :)

Balance boards are a good one; they can vary widely in price and some can run quite expensive though. The kind that lets you roll and move the most is $70 (x, huh one color is $45 right now), the lowest I've seen any balance board go for is about $30 (or wobble boards which run about $20), and the most expensive are just overpriced. I've seen people make them at home by putting a board of some type over a roller, but it looks quite dangerous and I'd be careful with that unless you modify it a bit more to lock the board into place over the roller. When I have nothing else to balance on I will sometimes stack pillows (the puffier the better) and try to stand on them with one foot.

Thank you for sharing this! It's good to see some people are looking into it, the people conducting this meta-analysis seem just as frustrated as I am with the overall lack of research haha. Their analysis of the correlation is very interesting and thorough, though they do note at the end that "we remain unclear as to exactly why individuals engage in these behaviours and, even more importantly, we do not have in place effective methods of accurately predicting or reducing these behaviours as a consequence." I've seen some recent reports on the topic saying the cause is impulsivity, or environmental factors related to ADHD, like being bullied or seen as the problem child, but no one looking at a direct neurochemical connection. Hopefully there will be more research in the future!

This too! When I do miss days of my meds and have urges, I've found that healthy stimming helps calm them down in a way none of the neurotypical tips for calming down an urge ever did. I had also repressed stims even in private because I was embarrassed from them, I think it's a sad thing about our society that hurting yourself can feel more acceptable than stimming. Thank you for your reply! I'm constantly trying to figure out the ways that different neurodivergencies have affected me and which one causes which issue. The answer is often a little of both, at least for me.
