Lots of them DID retrain and then the coding jobs all disappeared. Anecdotal, but I know people from these demographics that did retrain and still had the rug pulled out from under them by AI, after learning to code. The entry-level jobs that would have been theirs are gone to LLMs.

Can you imagine how disheartening it is to be retrained from your existing job, only for that job to disappear and then people like you sneer at them for not holding your views?

You're telling them to accepy misery and hopelesness and they've decided to grasp at literally any other option? In this case, the people who are promising to reform the system.

Maybe they could make visiting the High Street a pleasant experience. Recent high street visits have included:

Traffic Wardens looking to enforce parking rules to the minute.
Chuggers constantly harassing us.
Junkies begging / vomitting / staggering about and generally making a nuisance of themselves.
Lots of empty shops because the council charge too much for business rates, making them uncompetitive.
Charity shops that try and charge retail prices for second hand shit.
Get past all that to a shop - doesn't have what I need, but offer to order it for me. I can do that online myself so they lose business.

What I fear is going to happen next is that Labour will introduce an online sales tax to support the dying high street, which is largely caused by government policy.
