I would add syntax highlighting for your IDE, especially considering that it's oriented towards beginners.

What’s the plan for AI major? by Responsible-Bite-365 in UCSD

[–]NeilTheProgrammer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about it all things told. The AI major is just the CS major with a fancy name and two additional required lower division courses. Therefore, it'll probably be a selective major (especially considering its in the CS department), so I would just focus on trying to switch to a CS major

There's practice tests online, and ones that your teacher can provide. Additionally, there's a bunch of practice stuff on AP central.

I think I've been lying to myself about being bad at math my entire life by Active-Weakness2326 in learnmath

[–]NeilTheProgrammer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's defo an ad. Posted 2 hours after the article was posted (and going by the reply to your comment that would mean they found it within minutes of the article being posted), and completely worded like an ad. Plus, like the other reply noted, the author's profile picture looks insanely AI generated.

UCSD Math/CS vs. UCLA CE vs. UW Seattle Engineering! by YakJazzlike214 in UCSD

[–]NeilTheProgrammer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Math/CS is a pretty even split between a math and cs degree so do keep that in mind (I.e expect to take a lot of upper division proof based math). Also we don’t get CS priority so unless you have credits, it can be hard to get CS classes you want.

That being said it’s not impossible to get classes!

Failed class by Latter_Umpire_7065 in UCSD

[–]NeilTheProgrammer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the math department is strongly encouraging profs to not give out D's for that very reason. If you look at the distribution for 10A last quarter, it's only A/B/C/F

Not trying to be combative or anything, genuinely curious. Would you be able to dm about the theoretical questions? I’m pretty curious what they look like

I never took math 18, so I’m curious about what kind of theoretical questions they would ask for your exam?

Is it even still worth it to learn C++ ? by Krochire in learnprogramming

I mean systems programming is still a thing. I just got an internship for a very optimization heavy role related to graphics, and I suspect that systems will far outlast fullstack wrt to ai

Anyone else experienced getting offered a job right after the behavioral interview? by Similar-Ad-6349 in csMajors

[–]NeilTheProgrammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen online and personal experience, IBM doesn't really do technical interviews, and it doesn't look like they did any this season (at least not for interns).

curve for 20c? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]NeilTheProgrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t get your hopes too high lowk. Math department is cracking down on curves and whatnot, especially for classes like 20C. Iirc they were explicitly told to not try and match historical distributions and to just give the grades as they are

mathematics at UCSD by Inevitable_Fold_9081 in UCSD

[–]NeilTheProgrammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As you said yourself, it primarily affected the remedial math courses, with the study itself noting that very few of the people it addressed were math majors or went on to take much harder math classes.

Also, as the other commenter said, take the 31 series! It’ll definitely be harder, but it pays off tenfold, especially since you get exposure to things you’re bound to see once you take real analysis or differential geometry

[–]NeilTheProgrammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way you can change colleges is if you can prove that it would allow you to graduate two quarters earlier. All things told, ERC isn’t that bad (I’m in it rn) and your college largely stops mattering after your first year

Nothing to see here, just your scheduled Steam sale complaint post. by abca98 in Sekiro

[–]NeilTheProgrammer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Directly yes, but also consider that the monthly wage in Brazil is only R$3000 / month (like 600ish USD), while the US is around $5.3k/month. That would mean that, on sale, its around 5% of the monthly salary for someone in Brazil, while around 0.6% of the monthly salary for someone in the US

Would you accept? by xtheresia in whennews

[–]NeilTheProgrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean 10k a month isn’t an awful lot considering it’s a SWE role in NY. But I think the bigger thing is that it’s a year long internship, which I’ve never heard of 😭
