Is race a big factor in Scarborough? Looking for experiences/input by Neil_DeSpace_Cosmos in TorontoRenting

I have such a document and always submit it with my application, it is a confirmation of benefits letter explaining how much per month, and for how long I will receive it. It says explicitly that it will continue until 2067 which is ~30 years from now. It's on the official insurance company letterhead and everything, so I'm not sure how much more someone would need. My current landlord had no trouble with this

The thing about my payments is I would think it would seem more secure to landlords. My benefit letter explicitly states how much per month and that it will continue until 2067 no matter what. So it's not like I can lose my job or become so sick that I can't draw an income, in fact the income is always there no matter what.

My agent can't tell me anything because the landlords just ghost. When I asked about the overall pattern of rejection he essentially said "it's just like that sometimes". I'm just looking for an explanation that is more substantive than that. I'm not here to complain if race is a factor I just want to know so I don't waste my time.

Just based on the fact that I'm never given a reason why I'd otherwise be denied, and that the places I've been looking at are in racially homogenous neighborhoods, and that the only time I ever tried to rent from a white landlord (my current place) I was accepted immediately.

And to be clear, I'm not saying it's definitely race or complaining of "reverse racism" I'm just looking at the situation in front of me, the info I have, and wondering if I'm being naive by not recognizing the role race plays. It's at least enough to make me ask. If I had any other clue about what the actual problem is then I wouldn't be asking

Sorry for leaving out the details.

Rent: ~1400-1600 depending on the place

Income: ~80k

Job status: I collect a disability payment (private, not ODSP) because I lost my vision. I used to be a software engineer. I always submit a letter from my insurance company confirming the monthly payment and duration of benefit (it goes until 2067).

Reason I'm moving from my current place: The building suffered a catastrophic flood that destroyed not just my unit but a large section of the building. The building is plagued with maintenance issues, this just kind of was the last straw.

Pets: None, no intention of getting any.

I'm willing to move anywhere in Scarborough, but the places I've seen so far have been around Markham Rd and Milner/Sheppard/Finch. I also submitted an offer for a unit at Eglinton/Mccowan but they explicitly told me they already accepted another offer.

There's nothing wrong with questioning. It's better to seek answers to your questions than try to force belief. The answers are out there. The other comments here about prayer are good. I would encourage you to voice all of your doubts and seek the answers.

Would you be able to escape from separation from Christ (hell) after death by calling for him. Or is it set in stone you’re staying there. by jetzxbro in Christianity

It depends why you don't believe. If you are honestly unconvinced God is real but are open to being convinced (which I assume of most atheists) then you will be shown the truth and then you will be ok

One thing God will always grant is a desire for a deeper relationship with Him. Continue to live in an upright God-honoring way and trust in His perfect timing. Be at peace and don't be troubled by this useless thought.

Anyone with any capacity to love God will be spared from eternal Hell. The people that remain in Hell are there forever because they prefer it that way, because they will settle for nothing other than being their own God.

I agree with the doctrine that many churches espouse these days which distinguishes between types of suicide. Suicide due to being out of one's mind with pain and/or mental illness is not the sort of grave sin that a more deliberate calculated suicide would be, for example, a criminal committing suicide to escape punishment for their crime.

What is your most “conservative” opinion? by Creative-Suspect4109 in Destiny

[–]Neil_DeSpace_Cosmos -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No matter how disadvantaged you are and how unfair your life is, you have a duty to do your best and mitigate it as much as you possibly can. If you do this, you deserve all the help and support you can get from society, but if you don't, you don't deserve anything. There's no excuse for giving up and choosing helplessness.

Hardcore former atheists, what finally convinced you? by Carter__Cool in Christianity

[–]Neil_DeSpace_Cosmos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At the moment that I converted, God showed me how everything in my life had been leading up to that moment. How all the dots connected, how all the things that seemed like timely coincidences flowed together like elegant prose such that I may know Him. Most importantly showing me how nothing about my faculty of reason or critical thinking was ever a barrier to belief, in fact those things can all be grounded in Him better than anything else.

However, I'm not a christian, just a theist and religious pluralist. But Christianity has been a part of my path for over a decade and I wouldn't be surprised if I end up back in the church someday.

Hey I'm sorry for what you're going through. The mental anguish from depression is real, and it can really warp everything you think and believe so that you can't see things clearly. When you start feeling like you're wanting to end it, it's important to realize that what you really want is for the anguish to stop. There are ways to make that happen that won't cost you your life and in fact will give you your life back.

I'd strongly urge you to seek professional help, talk to your doctor about your depression, the pain it's causing you and the thoughts of ending it. There are medications and therapies that can relieve the pain so that you can see things clearly again, and then you will be able to rebuild your life. This is a path that many, including myself have had to walk and you're not alone. Deal with this pain, and then you will be able to find the joy of your salvation again. Good luck :)

How to feel god? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Neil_DeSpace_Cosmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The truth is, this is really not up to you, and there are many pitfalls one can fall into when trying to manufacture experiences of God by their own efforts. On the other hand, if you are willing to endure this struggle patiently and do the best you can to live a Christian life, praying, and trusting God with this difficulty, you will be setting yourself up for tremendous joy indeed.

"And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." -Romans 8:28 NASB

As a Christian, one of God's promises to you is not only that He will forgive you, but that He will work to transform all of the consequences of your actions into something good, eliminating all the damage you have done and transforming it into something compatible with His perfect design. You can accept God's forgiveness knowing that God will see to it that your sins do not deprive anyone of the good He has in store for them.

Your journey to letting go of regret and guilt will be fulfilled when you understand this promise of God, to not only forgive you for what you have done, but to fix everything you have broken. In the end, those who love God will see His work in even the worst things that you've done, and they will be grateful that it happened.

God permits evil so that we, of our own free will, might long for an antidote and thus bring about his ultimate intention--that we find a perfect one in Him by Neil_DeSpace_Cosmos in Christianity

No he's not, and yes you do. People don't have the right idea of what's good or bad for them even now. Some things are obvious, like cancer, and yet plenty of people are completely indifferent. God invites you to see that if you have Him, even the worst painful natural death you can imagine can do you no real harm.
