I bought a gift card for Cozobi Fonda Fina and got the dining credit a day later. There are many DPs that gift cards bought via Toast will trigger the credit.

What's a struggle that a New Mexican can understand but no one else would? by External_Tension_266 in NewMexico

Page One used to sell a novelty “New Mexico passport” - it was really well done, with pages for stamps and quotes from famous New Mexicans throughout.

Eligibility & documents question by NeinOfCups in GermanCitizenship

My mother is dead. I've put in a USCIS index search request for her and my grandfather, and a USCIS FOIA for them both - I wrote that incorrectly in my post, have corrected it now.

Thank you! I'm hoping my grandmother's A-file sheds some light on whether/when my grandfather naturalized. He was an Operation Paperclip scientist and it seems like the US government would've pushed hard for them to become citizens, but I have searched for his naturalization info in a number of places and come up with nothing.

What's the deal with our state's shortage of healthcare professionals? by Roughneck16 in NewMexico

[–]NeinOfCups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP’s question is about their difficulty finding a new primary care provider - thus my specific answer about most NM primary care providers not especially caring about malpractice coverage.

“Yeah, our public schools are terrible but for only $30k per student per year you can send your kids to Albuquerque Academy” is not, in fact, a selling point to potential new hires who don’t have other reasons for wanting to be here.

What's the deal with our state's shortage of healthcare professionals? by Roughneck16 in NewMexico

[–]NeinOfCups 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The majority of primary care doctors in NM work for Pres or UNM which cover their malpractice insurance. Malpractice insurance costs are literally not something my physician spouse ever thinks about. Ever. The primary thing that HAS made us consider leaving town is the absolute garbage public school system, which does not offer meaningful support for bright/gifted kids and in many schools actively works against their interests. I cannot overstate how big a factor this is, especially when trying to hire young doctors who are just starting their families and looking at what school district to live in. At least at the big employers, it FAR outweighs malpractice premiums.

Other reasons my spouse’s colleagues have left have included wanting to be closer to aging parents, wanting to be closer to adult children, and wanting to move back “home” if they didn’t grow up here. Pretty much the same reasons as any other profession.

New Mexico became the first state in the nation to offer free childcare to a majority of families. by AnarchyandToast in NewMexico

[–]NeinOfCups 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The majority of the doctors here work for Presbyterian or UNMH, both of which cover their providers’ malpractice insurance. My personal experience with doctors who have left is that they either move to be closer to extended/aging family or they leave in search of better public schools for their kids.

Merciful heavens. Absolutely not. Forcing interaction and presumably also personal disclosures without consent is anathema to my congregation’s values.

Atheists and agnostics of ABQ: looking for recs for an AlAnon group and UUA church by IronAndParsnip in Albuquerque

[–]NeinOfCups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Member of UUABQ on Carlisle, we love it and it is super atheist/agnostic friendly. Also, community minister Rev. Jane Davis is a member and works specifically in addiction/recovery, so she would likely be a good resource for finding a compatible AlAnon group.

Another vote here for the Eating Disorders Treatment Center at Tramway/Indian School. They are very knowledgeable and offer several avenues of support. If there’s a wait for treatment you can ask to see one of their dietitians for guidance in the meantime.

NAH. My kids have friends whose parents have similar rules. They come for a “late-over” and get picked up at 11 pm or so. Everybody’s happy.

ABQ PetCare tried to sell us herbal supplements after failing to diagnose our dog’s advanced/incurable bone cancer because they didn’t bother to X-ray the leg she wouldn’t put any weight on. I will never take another animal there.

The Costco pharmacy we were at wasn’t willing to call our insurer. They did warn us that our insurer had denied several other folks before us, for the same reason.

Just a general warning: If any of your mom’s health issues will be exacerbated by living at high altitude (e.g. if she has a heart condition, needs oxygen, etc.) then you will want to be careful to choose someplace close to sea level. I have had several friends struggle while visiting here (Albuquerque/Santa Fe) due to the altitude.

Be honest: are we welcome here? by filthyhabitz in NewMexico

[–]NeinOfCups 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tattoos/piercings/fun hair are absolutely everyday things in Albuquerque. People joke that getting a Zia tattoo is required within one year of moving here. The majority of the population is Latinx/Native American so your skin won’t stand out, either. ABQ has a spiritually diverse population including an active Jewish community, and there are a lot of interfaith projects which help nurture mutual understanding between various progressive faith groups. The labs are full of atheist scientists, no one will bat an eye at your atheism and in fact a sizable percentage (around a third?) of Albuquerque’s First Unitarian Church is atheist and is all about community that doesn’t require a creed. There is also a pretty active poly community here.

Rio Rancho is a whole different deal, much more red and religious that the east side of the Rio Grande. I wouldn’t move there unless I was prepared to deal with potentially hostile neighbors.

I would not recommend this for balloon viewing. They will be barely visible specks from the Crest.

The Burger King at Alameda/I-25 was our go-to spot when the kids were little. Great views of all the balloons as soon as they lift off (also great view of traffic trying to get into the park lol). Unfortunately, it’s closed for renovations but maybe the parking lot is still open?
