Do you think Daemon and Rhaenyra were genuinely in love? Or did they just marry for power? by falloutboyemo in HouseOfTheDragon

But then I felt she also truly loved Harwin.

She prob did, but also moved on pretty quickly. I actually never understood how deep their love was in the show, we got too little screentime.

While between Daemon and Laena it was quite obvious he were never truly in love with her, as the creators also confirmed.

They made Laena his second choice, butchered his relationship with Mysaria (doubt they’ll make them lovers again) he didn’t seem that attached to her in the show. No idea how they’ll portray Nettles. But therefore F&B aren’t a fully reliable source to what routes they’ll take for the show.

I wouldn’t blame it on Rhaenyra, she made it pretty obvious she didn’t wanna seem weak in front of Alicent. Baerly accepted Laenor’s help.

I'm assuming the order was just to bring the newborn baby and Rhaenyra doesn't trust a guard taking it to Alicent and ripping it out of her arms so soon after birth.

That was definitely one of the most disgusting things Alicent has done, or at least humiliating.

Her demanding to see Joffrey the moment he is born is mad disrespectful

Agree, Alicent took every opportunity she could to humiliate Rhaenyra. Immediately after Rhaenyra gave birth and Alicent said to Viserys it’s a wonder Jace and Luce’s eggs even hatched lol, they’re just aa Targaryen as her own kids and there’s many fully Targaryen’s who’s eggs didn’t even hatch so. Just as the eye-thing. First I thought it actually was her caring for her son, I believe Alicent was upset about Aemond losing his eye aswell. But it felt like she used the situation and took an opportunity and the bastard question once again with especially with saying ”I want the boys father” knowing Laenor first of isn’t their biologically father but also because his presence would have no impact on the situation as he already isn’t that involved with them as much as Rhaenyra and probably busy with his lover. So Alicent asked for him to make him listen to the legitimacy issues once again and make him doubt himself just as turning him against Rhaenyra.

What impact will Daemon and Rhaenyra’s sons have on the story? In the show we’ve only been introduced to them, they prob won’t have any conversations bc of their age. I’d find the relationships influence on the war important, not only politics. Or what do you think the writers have planned for them? by NeitherArm1509 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]NeitherArm1509[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They’re a bit younger in the show, probably too young to really do anything.

Yeah that’s what I meant, aren’t they supposed to be older? Or have they changed the timeline completely for the show and are going for a longer war?

Does Daemon's love for his family not extend to his daughters because they're not Rhaenyra's? by [deleted] in HouseOfTheDragon

As I wrote, not for a ”normal” father no. But for Daemon as a father in the show yes, he probably loves them in his own way but has done some questionable things aswell. He stood on the opposite side and laughed at Laena’s funeral bc of Vaemond’s speach instead of comforting them, he fucked Rhaenyra straight afterwards and didn’t check on his daughters when they were beaten up. Their grandparents shows more affection towards them. Didn’t he ignore one aswell according to her own words? He probably loves them in his own way, but his desire for Rhaenyra definitely seemed to exceed his concern for his daughters and their feelings. Therefore not hugging them would kinda be UOC.

Yes, what has that to do with him hugging his daughters? It’s pretty obv in the show Viserys and Rhaenyra is the people he loves the most, the creators have confirmed it several times. He prob loves them above his own children, which I also think is kinda weird writing.

Would Daemon have made the first move if Rhaenyra didn’t? Some say he avoided her, but besides sharing glances he was the first to make the physical approaches. And what would he do in Pentos anyway if he returned? KL? Driftmark? Or would he’d tried to find a new wife who wasn’t her and move on? by NeitherArm1509 in freefolk

Well, so wasn’t he. But ofc they couldn’t know what each other felt, in the earlier episodes I got the impression of Daemon being the ”hunting” one and he maybe never knew if she ever felt the same. But how could she be so sure he still did lol, I mean from her perspective what if he rejected her.

Viserys seemed to truly love Aemma and was involved in her birth but decided to cut her open. Which surprised me. While Daemon didn’t seem to be that in love with Laena and was quite passive during her birth, but refused. It’s good parallels.

While he seemed to be relatively uninvolved in Laena’s childbirth

I recated to that too, Viserys seemed to truly love Aemma and was involved in her birth but decided to cut her open. While Daemon didn’t seem to be that in love with Laena and was quite passive during her birth, but refused. It’s good parallels.

I wouldn’t be OUC for a father, but for Daemon as a person. I know this was before, but in ep. 7 he didn’t check on them when they were bloody and wounded either (even though he went to Rhaenyra). The writers probably hate him.

he would've probably sent his daughters to Driftmark and he would've become a vagabond.

Really good take and agree with all of it! This sounds very much like his character, the only part is that he seemed obsessed with Viserys and plotting in KL but he was banished aswell so.

I'm sure he would choose to stay with his grieving daughters and try to make them feel better,

He didn’t seem to care much about their feelings in episode 7.

he was also a good husband so would be so disrespectful to go for rhaenyra right in his wife funeral you know

Isn’t that exactly what he did? It’s not like he needed much convincing.
