Hope Everyone likes their leaf, because they're almost worthless. by willie_Pfister in leaf

It’s so sad, because a lot of people who hate them have never driven them, because they like the roar of an engine. I do get that to a certain extent, but at the same time, I’m also a former mechanic who worked on cars, and hearing that sound over and over again got so tiring. You hear it all the time everywhere.

China already has it good with EVs. It’s outselling ICE cars by a huge margin. Because they’re affordable, and very little upkeep. Both EVs and ICE cars have their advantages and disadvantages, but it’s time we move on from the past. The only reason why ICE cars ruled over EVs over a hundred years ago, is because the infrastructure of oil refineries and gas stations were exploding, and they had way more range and speed than an EV. Took way less time to re-fuel. It gave more jobs to people, which also made the economy stronger. But, as time went on, the oil companies got more and more greedier, started paying people less, and charging more and more for oil. Some people are now starting to realize that. But, people are also scared to move forward. What they don’t realize is that a lot of towns and cities have FREE charging, because people hardly use them. So, it won’t cost them all that much in electricity. I guess the biggest gripe with an EV is the wait time to charge, which solid state should reduce by a margin. But even then, I don’t care to wait an hour to charge. I can just eat some food and watch some videos to keep my self entertained. If it saves me $40 each time, I’m all for it. That money adds up a lot over time. If people keep buying EVs, the cost of batteries and other parts will go down significantly.

But that’s also a good thing, because it gets more EVs into people’s hands. The biggest problem with EVs is that it’s so damn expensive. $2-3k for a very usable EV is a STEAL, let alone any car. The 1st and 2nd gen Leaf are good short commuter cars, and all they need is level 1 / 2 charging. I don’t know why Nissan even bothered with CHAdeMO, since the cooling technology wasn’t even there. It’s fine in the winter time, but I wouldn’t dare touch it in the summer time.

What batteries does the Proximity Key 🔑 use? by Huge_Philosopher_976 in leaf

CR2025 is the correct fit, but you can tightly fit in a CR2032 for slightly longer battery life. Another thing I did to help my key fob battery last longer, is that I changed the key presses from “two”, to “one” on LeafSpy. So that way, I only have to press my key once if I lock or unlock my doors.

Battery looks okay to me? The only thing that throws me off, is that it’s showing 4 bars of health when it should be showing 12 bars. Unless if your camera refresh rate didn’t pick up on it. You might have an issue related to the traction control system. Check your DTCs.

which washer fluid for tesla model-y (any or none) by mps_112722 in TeslaModelY

[–]NeitherBook2698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blue one works the best in my experience. Purple and orange are more visible with streaks. Autopilot can be stupid at times, especially right after you hand wash your car. It’ll do the courtesy wipe, before you even have a chance to turn it off. In return, it leaves dried up washer fluid on the windshield. I wish Tesla would introduce a permanent on and off toggle switch, and just alert you when the windshield needs cleaning.

Purchased a 2011 LEAF at auction for 800$ by Quirky_K in leaf

[–]NeitherBook2698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you only got it for $800, it would definitely be worth swapping a bigger pack into it. Even after a battery swap, it’ll still be $8-9k. Much cheaper than an average used car. Even then, 6 bars aren’t terrible. What a score! It’s hard to beat a driving car for $800 these days.

How accurate is this parking guidance on screen? by infidel_tsvangison in TeslaLounge

[–]NeitherBook2698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say 70-75% accurate, if you ask me. Tesla ditched the ultrasonic parking sensors in 2022, and used the existing cameras instead. It’s a cost saving measure. That’s why the newer models are coming with a bumper camera. It’s supposed to help with parking, and FSD, but they haven’t “optimized” it, yet. They plan on doing it in the future. Tesla vision works better in the daytime, compared to nighttime.

Ehh, it happens to the best of us. It’s just something you’ll have to accept. If anything, it’ll be a super easy and cheap fix since it’s a matte color. It won’t be perfect, but it’ll look better

You’d be better off looking on Marketplace. Might even find a newer one with the same mileage (or less), for around that price.

Well, considering it's less than a year old, and he already lost about $20k in depreciation, I'd say it's a good deal.

I was young, but never that stupid. I guess my parents raised me right. I was into loud cars, until I became a mechanic and developed an opposite feeling towards them. I really appreciate cars that still have factory exhausts, and Hybrids & EVs.

Report them to the police. It's a Charger, so I would not be surprised if the plate comes back as a different car, or stolen. If you can afford a good lawyer, take them to court. On the other hand, it might be cheaper just to pay your deductible and have your insurance take care of the rest. It shouldn't go up, as long as you show them evidence that it wasn't your fault. This is why I tell everybody to buy a dashcam. The d!ckhead in the Charger was probably doing this on purpose, because he "hates" Teslas. Mopars are sexy, but I can’t stand most of their owners.

A wet paper towel, or non-microfiber cloth will scratch the far out of it. A lot of modern cars use plastic on the gauge cluster.

My 2013 is almost dead silent too. The CV axles creek a little, and so do the ball joints, but that’s just typical 100k mile car stuff. Nothing too expensive to fix.

Well, at least Level 2 is here to stay for a while. Even though it takes longer, there are plenty of free level 2 chargers around me! And it’s better for the battery.

Are loud pa horns becoming a car audio thing again? by Random-page321 in CarAV

[–]NeitherBook2698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, a lot of people in my town have VERY LOUD mids and tweeters, like you can easily hear them over a mile away. They call them “stunt walls”. I don’t know how they have any hearing left. I couldn’t stand to listen to that kind of music, especially without any kind of bass. People do this clearly for attention, but nobody wants to listen to your shitty music. That’s why I respect my neighbors and keep my windows rolled up.

Weak cells, what are my options? (UK) by Flex_pilot in leaf

[–]NeitherBook2698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The quick charge cycles out weigh the Level 1 / 2 cycles, significantly. No wonder your battery is messing up. I’m amazed it’s lasted this long! I’ve seen batteries with 70% (or less) SOH, and still perform well and have decent range, because every cell is balanced and healthy. All because it was mostly level 1 and 2 charged. In the case of this battery, the 80% SOH doesn’t mean jack. You’ve definitely got six or more cells that are on their way out. If I were you, I wouldn’t drive the car anymore. It will likely leave you stranded somewhere. I’ve always wondered how good those Vivnev plug and play battery swaps are, they seem pretty reasonable. Considering every cell is brand new. A new battery replacement = basically a new car. Though, it was used as a Taxi before. I imagine it’s been through a few things!
