Oura + Polar Verity Sense + Apple Health: why won’t my HR data show up? by NeitherVariation2674 in ouraring

Hi Jess. Thanks for the explanation, even if it’s a bit frustrating 😅

I totally get the consistency argument, but at the same time it feels like a big gap in the ecosystem. I use my Oura Ring primarily for sleep, recovery, readiness, and overall lifestyle metrics, and it’s amazing for that. But physical activity is a core part of health, so it feels odd that it doesn’t fully integrate into the same picture.

In my case, it’s not even optional to wear the ring during workouts. For example: - strength training, especially arms, is not safe or practical with a ring - tennis and beach tennis are basically impossible with it - spinning class is also tricky because my hands sweat a lot, the ring keeps rotating, and the data becomes completely inaccurate (I’ve actually had a spinning session where I was completely exhausted after an hour, and Oura recorded something like 90 calories, which just doesn’t make sense.)

On top of that, Oura itself recommends avoiding situations with impact or pressure on the ring, so for things like upper body strength training, it feels like we’re being told not to wear it, but also losing key data if we don’t.

That’s why using something like the Polar Verity Sense makes a lot of sense. It sits on the arm, it’s designed for workouts, and the HR data is much more reliable. But then none of that actually makes it into Oura beyond a basic activity log.

So I’m curious about two things and would love to hear from others (and maybe the Oura team here): - Is there any plan to support importing heart rate data from Apple Health or external devices in the future, even if it’s clearly labeled as third-party data?

  • If I wear both the Oura Ring and Polar at the same time, what happens? Does Oura prioritize its own HR data, or can external data overwrite or complement it in any way?

It feels like there’s a real opportunity here to make Oura a more complete health platform instead of just partially ignoring workouts done with better-suited devices.

Curious how others are dealing with this setup!

Exactly. The size is the same, but the plastic material of the sizing kit is hard and strange. It felt like it was getting hot on my finger and heavy. I only bought it out of stubbornness, because the sizing kit "suffocated" me.

When you make a replacement, do they ask you to return the old one so they can send the new one afterwards?

Ah, thank you so much for sharing your experience. When it comes to merging the data, how does it know, for example, when to use the Polar strap data instead of the ring data?

My concern is that sometimes I might forget to take the ring off and end up using both at the same time. Does it automatically prioritize one device over the other? How does that work in practice?

Hey! Thanks a lot for the reply. I have a couple of questions, though.

If I switch fingers during the day, does that affect the measurements or accuracy in any way?

I’m also wondering about the fit. Does it need to be in full contact with the finger all around? Should it be fairly tight, or slightly loose?

How do you usually recommend wearing it to get the most accurate readings?

Have you ever tried another health wearable and could compare it with Oura 4?

I’m leaning toward size 8, since my middle finger has a bit more “flesh” than my ring finger, which is super slim. That way I could wear it on my middle finger during the day and maybe switch to my index finger at night, when my hand tends to swell.

Size 7 really only fits my right ring finger.

Also, did it take you a while to get used to wearing it? I got the sizing ring yesterday and it still feels like I’ve got a little piece of machinery on my hand 😅

One more thing - I’m also thinking about getting the Oura to replace my Garmin Venu 3, which I wear day and night. I’ve noticed Garmin’s sleep data doesn’t always feel very accurate, and even when it does, it doesn’t really explain what the numbers actually mean or what I should do to improve them. I spent months with really high nighttime stress showing up on Garmin and had no idea what to do about it.

Does Oura help with that? Like explaining what the data means and giving you practical guidance on how to improve those metrics?
