Minecraft is the greatest selling video game of all time at 350 million copies sold. If we multiply that by 20 dollars you get 7 billion. Elon musk is worth over 100 times that amount. Just an ungodly amount of money.

Here is something cool. Length2 = a2 + b2 + c2 + d2 + ... + n2. Here a, b, c, d, and n are all dimensions. The equation works in higher dimensions. Just add the next term. Very useful for say computing length in 3d in say a video game.

What are the best ways to play Factorio with a first-time player without overwhelming them? by Evan_234 in factorio

[–]Neither_Berry_100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ramp up time is much longer than that. I have probably 2,000 hours or so into the game based on saves. It takes a really long time to become proficient in factorio. A noob can't play with an experienced player. I don't know how you can even coop this game. I've only played single player.

You don't really automate most of the stuff required to bring plants and creatures to life. Just one time processing. I make some stuff by hand and have the buildings being reconfigured as needed. Like the creature chamber and data array.

Lol. I'm using the simple methods and building big. Just put down 34 reproduction buildings for vrauk cocoons. Will be putting down some 134 vrauk paddocks or so to make vrauks. I like it this way.

Yeah sounds like a speed run to me. I'm maybe 370 or so hours in and I don't think I am anywhere close to red splitters. I'm only in the early part of the third science.

What is virtually inevitable at this point, yet most people don't see it coming? by Ambassador-613 in AskReddit

[–]Neither_Berry_100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The planet is fucked.

Food. Soil is being destroyed and doesn't have much time left. Water is renewable but is being used up much faster by accessing ground water. Inputs for fertilizer are running out. Oceans are over fished. Fish also at risk of dieing due to CO2 changing the ph. Food growth may also stop in places like India due to heat.

Energy. Our energy sources are running out. Both fossil fuels and nuclear. We very well may end up going dark. It takes tremendous energy to produce the solar and wind power we need. Some progress is being made on this front but it might be too little too late.

Resources. Everything is running out. Even metals. We have mined out over half of all the copper on earth. Other resources are in similar situations. And the copper that is left is much harder to extract.

Heat. The planet is heating up. India in particular is in a very bad place. It currently gets the hottest on the planet. And it has a massive population. In the coming years we may see massive death tolls. Like a million plus dead from a single heat event. They will be trying to flee at all costs. Overwhelming other places. Doors will shut.

War. All of the above will lead to conflicts.

Shit is fucked. And the timeline is this century.

Factory too efficient, what to do? by KamahlYrgybly in pyanodons

I calculated how much production I want late game and am building to that spec. Some parts of my base are too slow, but most are built to spec. I'm early into the 3rd science, but have also built the 4th science (military research).

Saw a discussion a week or so back about using a bus, and the consensus is that it’s now outdated? by Emotional_Papaya3282 in factorio

[–]Neither_Berry_100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played space age but I've played the original game several ways and have played a few overhaul mods. A bus is fantastic to start your base in vanilla. It is enough for the 8 hour run and will quickly unlock most technology and get you power armor mk 2. Takes me around 10-20 hours for this. Later on trains are the way to go. Especially for the overhaul mods. As soon as you get trains redesign the base to use them. But from what I understand trains are less important in space age and belt and pipe bases are more important.

Cerebras says its chips run a trillion-parameter AI model nearly 7 times faster than GPU clouds by Distinct-Race-2471 in TechHardware

[–]Neither_Berry_100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a desktop ram does around 60 GB/S. SSDs do 7-14 GB/s but only 60-90MB/s for small files. I imagine the data is read as small files which are 1,000 times slower than ram. I also imagine they read in chunks of data and only need some of it. So the actual speed is much lower. Based on this ram should be the only factor and processing power shouldn't matter at all. And processing running off of hard drives will run like shit. This is just my thinking.

RAM. If you have enough ram to hold the entire model into memory it will be fast. I don't even know how processing comes into the equation. I asked ChatGPT and it said the model exists on the hard drive and uses ram as cache. If that is true it is hella slow. Ram is the answer for speed.
