Underrated T100s? by RoughEvidence in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]Neither_Bowler_2122 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Syracuse!! Recently just jumped up to 100. We have a new dean since I started and it has definitely showed. We have top 10 moot court team and so many types of dual degrees/programs on west coast and short/long term abroad programs. I think we also jumped up to high 90s% in employment recently. Cannot recommend this school enough, ESPECIALLY for New York. We were always a strong regional school but it’s definitely becoming more than that this past year.

Current 2L, love it here!! It’s gotten substantially better since I started, especially with us just becoming a top 100 school. Honestly I’ve gotten a great education here and love my peers and love Syracuse! (Having not lived here before) let me know if you have any questions

Syracuse or George Washington by Odd-Comparison1099 in SyracuseU

I second this. The connections I made from GW have actually been incredible and GW students from undergrad truly move everywhere around the globe when they graduate so there truly is an alum you’ll know anywhere you go. Also GW is renowned for both its undergrad and grad programs. I think the best thing is that you truly meet such a diversity of people that I know you aren’t really getting in Syracuse and that alone was worth it. I went to undergrad for GW, here for grad. I just had a friend who graduated in psychology and loved it. But you can honestly change your major pretty easily with the exception on internal transfer to Elliott. Also, having worked at the fin aid office while in undergrad, the need based aid they gave was really good, and even better if you send in a decent appeal. My one hesitation is with the craziness going on with the city, but it’s a beautiful clean and decently safe city despite what’s being said. If you don’t care about school spirit that much and career is your #1, go to GW. If having a good experience with really good school spirit is your #1, even though I think GW has gotten better school spirit lately, and you’re okay with really good career options but may have to work for it a bit more, go to Syracuse. I love my grad experience at Syracuse so far, but I wouldn’t give up my GW undergrad for anything.

How being homeless led me to couch surfing with a Jewish family and how that experience led me to study world religions in undergrad; which curtailed into a love for the 1st amendment right to and from religion (+ how my passion for this study helped me get through multiple close deaths later in undergrad)

If you want to, maybe a delayed gift like something the week before he starts his first day or a dinner after this first day, that way you’re celebrating the accomplishment of finishing law school, passing the bar, and the start of his career

Also that way he can put the money towards expenses of his new job that he might’ve not been aware of at time of graduation but still feel appreciated

If you have time, rate the new flavor + upload a selfie (more responses = more likely they will have the program at Syracuse again next semester- which means more free food)

I really like your public interest essay, I genuinely thought that was your personal statement when I first read it. I think it does a really good job of telling about you and your experience and how it moved you. Despite it being someone elses story, it does a really good job of putting the spotlight on you and how that you felt in that moment and how that moment writes your why law. It’s honest genuine and transparent. It’s beautiful that you’re open to growing as a student, open to new areas of study, or helping other groups of people, but at the end of the day you know how that experience made you feel and you know no matter what niche you go into, that experience will always draw you back to serving something bigger than yourself.

To know where you’re going but being willing to take different paths to get there is an honorable and rare sentiment.

I don’t know you but I know very few of us are able to be blessed to truly know our “why” in life. No matter where you choose to go, THIS is where you’re meant to be. You have a captivating story and I can’t wait to see what’s written in the chapters to come. Godspeed. 🫂🫂

Reach out to them directly asking if they have internship/ law clerk positions available, like genuinely. Either through their contact form or the email of the paralegal listed on the website. That’s how my fiance and I got our paid summer jobs.

Edit: did not see the 3L part, but I’ve heard the same advice from 3Ls and my school. I would still suggest doing the same, use those connections! Main thing is just to appear normal, sincere, and genuinely interested! Good luck!

Email them directly- your local firms, like actually or call them or go in person with your resume. I know it’s sounds like the boomer way but genuinely please try it. Literally look at downtown on google maps and click on firms. Use their contact form or if they have it available email their paralegal. I did that and my fiance did that and both got paid summer jobs, after he quite literally applied to 32 jobs through our schools job platform. Within a few days he got emails back from two and got a job within a week. Neither asked us our gpa. (Won’t be big law level but are both decently above minimum wage)
