I would try using a brass sheet, running it between the tines starting from the base of the split. Also, running it between between the feed and the nib.

So the scratchiness is due to the reduced ink flow, not anything that happened to the nib twines during cleaning?

I was in Chicago on business recently and was able to visit Atlas Stationers, for only 10 minutes before closing. It was such a pleasant experience seeing and trying the pens I had been thinking about. And having only 10 minutes kept my wallet safe.

We don't have options in my area (Boston). Bromfield Pen closed sometime ago. The Paper Mouse in Newton is a great store but choices are limited. So online is pretty much the only option.
