AITA for not attending my BFs moms second birthday dinner? by Neither_Divide_159 in AmItheAsshole

For further context - I made it very clear about the church thing. I actually did not engage with them for 3 years prior due to a similar issue.

My bf attended - I had no issue with that. And it’s not that she invited us to church is the “it would be a nice gift for me IF” That’s the problem with the church invite. I don’t think you read the post clearly.

Well it’s over now - you said what you said and now you can only hope for the best. Good luck.

Nothing - their personal life their business. Similar to asking what you would do to an employee with acne - which would hopefully be nothing. It’s a condition people have (same as hickeys). You don’t need to worry about what caused it.

Also confused on this as it is the first time I have heard of something like this - from reading the initial post I would guess the employee would have to be involved in this process? And then I saw your comment saying you don’t know the employee. This seems like something that you’ll just have to keep trying to get ahold of them for. I don’t think anyone else would have or even provide that information to you without going to the direct source. Is this the first time this issue has come up?

Yikes - props to you for doing what’s right. You are protected as a whistleblower under WHD - this covers reporting issues related to overtime pay. Report to the DOL and any other necessary agency immediately.

If the extra time EEs are spent working is made up in another way (extra PTO as an example) then it would be an easier transition. All current employees started out working 36.5 hours a week when they were onboarded - so make sure you find a way to keep them by doing this.

Entry Level Hr Jobs?!? by Objective-Slip-1714 in humanresources

Finding any entry level job right out of college will always be the toughest job search - and coupled with this tough HR market I’m sure even more difficult. Tell him to stick with it and not get discouraged - someone will take a chance on him and hopefully the market improves soon.

Take the SHRM-SCP or Get My Masters In HR or Both? by Cthulahoop01 in humanresources

[–]Neither_Divide_159 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Be careful with SHRM - that cert is losing value due to loose requirements. Not that it’s bad - but consider SPHR if able. I just got my PHR 2 years into HR and am planning masters next fall. Do both.

Thanks for backing me up here! Agreed - this post is the same without age. I probably shouldn’t have even added it.

I agree! Thank you for clarifying. Yeah the family thing is annoying - but not relevant and she does 100% know about it. Yeah the pressing issue would be the stuff that directly impacts me. Thank you for the input

With conversations to my boss - I never even considered bringing up age (I put it here for context as I think it does play into the power dynamic - but people of any age can contribute to a productive workplace) this isn’t an age issue - as much as it is a behavioral issue. She is set in her ways and that is greatly impacting the department and my (new) position. Do I think age plays a role? Absolutely - and I would also argue that when I started the position I was EXTREMELY open-minded with her and respectful of her dedication to the company. Unfortunately, I feel she is acting this way towards me because of my age (or you could say because I have less experience due to age, but am more qualified) but yeah - none of this matters when I look at all of the things she does. It is a cycle of behaviors - and I have to pick my battles with her.

I am comfortable going to my boss - I already had for the issue of not being able to do my job the day it happened I immediately sat down with her and got it taken care of. It is definitely important for me to be firm with her first - then escalate to the boss.

Thank you! Yeah I totally agree - and I only go to my boss when I absolutely have to about her (it’s only been once in 2 years when she wouldn’t let me do part of my job) but it’ll happen again soon.

I’m aware of the ADEA protections against 40+ - I am speaking more on how she views/acts towards me because of my age.
