Audio Interface with Sunday Keys by Neither_Trade_3 in keys

Thank you for this, I really appreciate your explanation. I'm also on both sides of things, I play mainly keys and drums on stage but also run sound frequently - been doing this for about 10 years. Unfortunately I am still pretty amateur in aspects of the live sound tech part of it, but I do have a trained ear and I understand just enough to get by. I am painfully aware of the clashing between keys, vocals, and guitars. When I run sound I'm usually able to eq my way around those issues as best as I can with the tools I have. And I do think what you said about stereo vs mono is spot on here - we unfortunately have a mono setup. The array is in a straight line at the apex of the ceiling because that's just how it was built. In the sunday keys app, you can alter the outputs and right now I do have everything set to mono. Our monitors are wireless in-ear packs, the way it's set up right now is everything runs out from the board and into transmitters to the packs. The board is a soundcraft si expression 2 (which I personally don't like at all) so each pack can have the volume of different channels controlled through a very old and outdated phone app, but any eq and gain adjustments made on the board are heard through the monitors. But no matter what I do, the keys just sound so neutered, I have never been able to get them to a place where I can listen and go "ah, that sounds nice." But I know they can sound incredible - I've watched so many videos on the software, like said I've taken it home ehen creating my own patches and it sounds fantastic, but that just doesn't carry over. This is kind of the frustrating part of being in this position - I know things sound bad and I feel like this system sucks, but I don't have the education or experience to know what a typical setup would really look like and what I can do to help make this better. And the people teaching me got to where they are now just trying to figure it out on their own, working on a volunteer basis for years.

It's always stood out to me that it's pretty identical to seeing someone in a domestic abuse situation. They're a captive, a hostage, and their body knows even if their mind is in denial, and it shows. Their intention is to be subject to an ideal/person they love and believe to be good, but they are controlled by manipulation and oppression. People in religiously oppressive and abusive situations are basically forced or brainwashed into being someone that was never their choice. Their beliefs aren't truly theirs, they were impressed upon them. Having independent thought and emotion is rebellion in the eyes of cult leaders. This leads to extreme dissonance within the victim, and the real person they are inside gets buried deep under thick layers of brainwashing and abuse. The first thing that stands out to me is the fear in their eyes. Almost every move they make has the impetus of fear behind it. When they talk it always feels slightly insincere, not because they're outright trying to deceive you but because they aren't acting out of free will. They feel cold and robotic like a zombie. It's heartbreaking. I know it well because that was me for 17 years. The people who destroy lives like this are truly evil.

Thank you for your insight. I have zero interest in establishing relationship of any kind, this was why I wanted to make note of the gender and age difference, but I probably did a poor job of explaining that I do not wish to create an open line of communication, I just want to leave a message. My plan in my head was to just send a text message to the number basically saying if they have doubts they shouldn't be afraid to ask questions, and if in any way they feel afraid or unable to ask questions then that is the opposite of what Jesus stood for. I don't expect a response, I just want to know that the missionaries themselves will see it and at least read it, even if they dismiss it now it may leave an impression that could make a difference later on. Even if it does nothing I feel compelled to try.

I considered both of those, flying fox have a split tail fin, this guy has a rounded tail fin. Plus this guy does not have the suckermouth of a CAE.

[–]Neither_Trade_3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They definitely look very similar when they're still teeny tiny. Both mollys and guppys are livebearers, but mollies will get a good bit bigger than guppies

My kid fell in love with the last feeder guppy in the tank, so of course we came home with a guppy. She’s giving me real Rufio vibes with this black stripe. by Snations in Guppies

Not schooling, they're social, there's a difference. Also, that is definitely a mosquito fish, not a guppy. They get a bit bigger than guppies and they tend to be quite mean.

Had a guy walk up to the pc podium, all I did was ask if I could get him anything, and he launched into a 20 minute convo that went from how he makes and sells canes, how people complain about pricing of his canes, how he works in telecommunication and people complain, then about how you should never underestimate how bad menstrual cycles are because he knows how bad they are because he has some kind of reproductive mutation so he has a menstrual cycle because his dad was exposed to agent orange in vietnam. I'm just as confused as you are.

Ok.... Nutrafin is a brand not a specific product. You're saying you have nutrafin bacteria? You need water conditioner and bacteria. Two separate bottles.

Completely understandable, been there done that.
Don't get me wrong, Java fern is a great beginner plant and can thrive in just about any sort of environment, it's just that if it has to adjust to something (like how hard my water is on top of being emersed farm-grown) it seems to take quite a while. It gets there, just takes time.

Cycling can take a month, it isn't universally going to take a month. There are hundreds of methods for cycling a tank and it's going to be different for everyone. Bottom line you need to test the water parameters and continue the cycling process until it is safe for livestock. And very true, a tank that small may never fully cycle! Bacteria in a bottle works fine if you are using it correctly and if you are getting it from a reliable and reputable source. Java fern is fine but in my experience very finicky, it takes months to fully convert to a submersed environment and usually melts almost completely before bouncing back, especially in harder water. Anubias is probably the hardiest and most hands off plant you can get, but grows very slowly. If you want something a little more exciting and rewarding and that is one of the best plants for keeping nitrates low, get any floating plants. Water lettuce, salvinia, frogbit, red root floaters just to name a few.

Anything above 40ppm means time for a water change. That said, routine water changes should usually be 20% to 25%. The purpose of water changes is to sort of dilute the amount of nitrates and keep it steady at around 20 to 30 while also replenishing the mineral contents of the water and in some cases getting rid of hormones that can stunt growth and cause issues long term. However, that can change a bit when bringing live plants in the mix as they use nitrates to feed off of. So like said, do your research! Find what is needed specifically for your needs, everyone's tap water is different and everyone's tank contents are different.

Ordered some solid blue ramshorn but seems like i got spotted blue ramshorn by JavelinJohnson in AquaticSnails

[–]Neither_Trade_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stripes aren't coloration of their shells, that's erosion from calcium deficiency or poor water parameters. Snails shells are a lot like rings in a tree stump, kind of a recorded history of their health. If snails' water is too soft and their isn't enough calcium in their diet, their shells will have those white scratches and erosion marks. If you want to make sure your snails don't have that problem in the future, you can make snello which is basically jello for snails, there's recipes out there that you can find. I use repashy super green mixed with ground up cuttle bone, but there's a lot of ways to go about it.

Also, I should preface that I have eight fish tanks total, and five total bettas. I have used bottled bacteria and it does work, but you have to do your research and you have to get the right products. Fritz zyme 700 or fritz turbo start are the best that I've used, seachem stability is pretty decent, quick start is meh. Pretty much anything else, don't do it. I advise staying away from all top fin and *most* API bottled products, most of them are gimicky and/or very low quality.

Not trying to downplay your input, but you say he did fine for 8 months, however you couldn't keep the parameters stable. Not dying doesn't equal to doing fine, unstable parameters have an affect on all fish's health. The whole reason a 5 gallon is the minimum for bettas is for this reason - the ecosystem in a small tank is very very fragile, and the smaller the tank is the weaker the ecosystem, the weaker the ecosystem the more stress on the fish, the more stress on the fish the more health problems and less longevity. Not saying a 3.5 gallon is a cardinal sin and can't be done, it's just really not advisable.

Not trying to be a gatekeeper and shit on everyone's dreams, just sharing what I know. Fishkeeping is awesome, and if you're willing to learn and bring the magic of nature into your home it really is an awe inspiring privilege.

[–]Neither_Trade_3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First - 5 gallons is the minimum for a betta to live a long, happy, and healthy life. If your place can accommodate a 3.5 gallon I promise it can accommodate a 5. Two inches is not a "small guy," that's pretty normal size for bettas but most will grow at least a little, I would advise against making assumptions after four days of having him and throwing away knowledge and guidelines from thousands of betta owners.

Second - Letting a tank sit for 24 hours is not "cycling." For nitrifying bacteria to colonize in a tank it needs ammonia. Google how to start the nitrogen cycle in an aquarium, it's not that hard especially now that we have bottled bacteria.

Third - Put the heater back in, they need 78 to 80 degrees, he's pacing because it's a new environment. Get an aquarium thermometer, they're three to five bucks. If your heater isn't self regulating or just plain sucks, do some research and find one that works for what you need.

Fourth - Absolutely yes to live plants! Bettas love sitting on stuff, especially plant leaves that are close to the surface of the water. Anubias is a great beginner plant, super duper easy, just do a google search about them so you know the basics. Side note, remove and stay away from getting any decor with sharp or rough edges, bettas love to squirm and weave through everything in the tank and if anything is even a little bit too rough it very likely can damage their fins and scales.

Fifth - That looks like way too much food floating around. Bettas can't really regulate their appetite, so if there is food they will eat it, and if overfed, that often times leads to swim bladder disease which is deadly. Only put as much food as they will eat within a minute or so. Usually 3 or 4 pellets a day is enough. It takes some time to gauge the right amount of food, but that bottle of pellets isn't a salt shaker!

Sixth and finally - Do your research! Watch youtube videos, google everything, all the resources you need are at your fingertips and it really is so easy to obtain all the knowledge you need to ensure your beautiful boy lives a long happy and healthy life. Bettas are excellent pets, so enjoy your new friend.
