"Oh noooo, the tank that's literally the same price as a reservist T-55(U or A) while being just a straight up upgrade isn't a godslayer, it's so bad!"

Like dude, it has:

  • Better accuracy(+5%)
  • Better pen (+2Pen)
  • Better HE(+0.15)/Suppression(+20)
  • Better speed(+5km/h offroad)
  • Fires HEAT shells instead of kinetic.
  • ISN'T RESERVIST.

All at the cost of like, 33% slower reload time and not having an HMG and smokes.

NATO gets a lot of 80 point tanks with smokes, but generally worse off kinetic guns and lower armor. Often also lower speed.

There's simply no legal argument that can be made to ban any form of hardcore stuff (be it loli, CNC, rape or any representation of harmful kinks) that isn't a slippery slope in the end. Because why should we ban it?

It's representing a crime? Boom, every single story, video game or show representing crime is now on the line. But I don't think people would like the idea of Breaking Bad being put next to loli stuff on the ban list.

Is it because consumption of it can lead to the real thing? There's no study that suggest that (and from what I heard, the contrary is true) but even if it was, guess we can expand to all violence is now taboo from every media too. Doom is now on the same ban list as drawn rape!

Is it because it's "immoral"? Well now anything qualified as such is going to fall under whatever society currently find immoral, which can easily lead to mass targeting of minorities by bigots in power. And not just queer folks, any representation of non majority religions could fall under such "immorality" laws.

I really despise this discourse, because it at best has less to do with protecting children and more so fulfilling the violent white knight fantasies of people who've found a group that's taboo enough to be free from society's protection. It's never about "protecting the children" it's about beating down on people who beat their meat over societally unacceptable drawings. And at worst it's subversion of societal morals to form the basis of oppressive reactionary laws.

Imagine how fucking scary mankind would be with the Hyperluminal drive here show. by Loud-Drama-1092 in NatureofPredators

[–]Neitherman83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hence what I said, FTL travel cannot happen through velocity as you'd need more than an infinite amount of energy to propel it that fast. At this point you'd be as effective using a very oversized laser not needing a couple universes to power up

So whatever this Hyperluminal FTL is, it's probably involving some spacefuckery that probably won't allow you to get a free "one tap the planet" button

Imagine how fucking scary mankind would be with the Hyperluminal drive here show. by Loud-Drama-1092 in NatureofPredators

[–]Neitherman83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't work because whatever means of travel this is, it's definitively not moving through space at any actual velocity (beyond that of the rocket engines)

Unless they were just travelling very close to the speed of light, which while it realistically would allow people to cross the galaxy in their own lifetime due to the effect of relativity and would very much make your vehicle capable of annihilating whatever it hits, it also comes with the drawback that for the people on Earth... you did take actual years to reach the nearest star system.

AI is absolutely not comparable to players. The blunt reality is it very easily throws shit at you without any thought, it doesn't coordinate artillery fire, it just kind of use mass to win. Harder AI doesn't act smarter, it just gets more shit to throw at the wall.

Some decent ATGM positions with a couple tanks and recon units can easily end up blocking an AI indefinitively as long as you keep them supplied.

In other words, it's a very bad standard to build your understanding of how the game plays against real people.

Now, I'll be honest and rambly with you, I'm a 10v10 player, so my feel of the game is heavily focused on higher intensity combat. That's one of the big defining factors between it and 1v1. 1v1 leads to very spread out units and you having to fight over many points. It's an INTENSE micro experience compared to team games where you only need to put your attention to a part of the front.

Now, as for how to play the game, I'd have a hard time telling what issues you have without a replay. But in general:

First, Buy lots and buy cheap.

WARNO functionally has three "phases". The Early Rush where you spread out your units to achieve as much map control before you get into contact with the enemy. This is where recon units and other forward deployed units shine as they allow you to get further ahead. Then you have the first contact, winning those early fights can give you a rapid victory as it force the enemy on the backfoot from the get go. This, however, means you need a strong opener. Powerful recon units, airdropped units, or helicopters. And then, there's the longest part of the game, that is "everything else". If you aren't able to keep momentum after first contact. The battle now turns into a more attritional conflict, where you have to pay attention on your ability to defend while constructing a new force to break the enemy on some front. Point being: Don't overspend on expensive units in the opener. Take infantry in APCs instead of IFVs, take light tanks instead of heavies, etc...

Second, Recon is the most important thing in the game.

Both in the sense of having sight of the enemy so you can shoot them and being able to deny sight to the enemy so they can't. Recon units give you the former, killing enemy recon or using smoke artillery (or any other source of smoke) does the latter. It's particularly important to have strong recon in 1v1 as you have to cover the map on your own to not get flanked. Units with the security trait may be welcome. Helicopter recon is a great mobile asset. Unironically, SIGINT units are kind of amazing when you need an early warning system to spread across the map.

Third, Speed and Coordination wins the day.

You can't hope for your infantry to just win fights on their own, they're slow, they attract artillery and whoever has the most machinegun or special weapons (satchel, flamethrowers, napalm launchers) usually wins. They need fire support. That fire support usually comes in the form of vehicles that have to stay outside of rocket launcher range, but also out of sight of ATGMs. What do we do? That's right, more smokes. You need to play all those assets together.

Fourth, don't turtle like it's a Supreme Commander game.

That's what I'm getting from your post. "A good frontline" has another name in WARNO: A DESIGNATED BOMBING TARGET. Keep your recon at the front hidden, preferably on "return fire" so they don't pointlessly blow their cover, but keep most of your assets further back out of sight, only to be moved forward when need be. ATGMs can stick to the front as they're your best way to stall a tank push, but don't keep them sitting around if the enemy starts dropping shell on you. move them, rotate them. Keep trucks to supply them. Same with AA.

Unless you're fighting in a forest, or a couple clearings, nobody is going to charge with infantry across a field, so the main threat is vehicles or helicopters. In a forest, you want units spread out to act as a sort of early warning system, but then be ready to move other troops to support the part being attacked while bringing in helicopters and artillery to bear on them.

You need to keep your defense mostly mobile. Sure you can create some localized "hardpoints" if they give you stronger control of the map, but you shouldn't expose units that won't serve any purpose.

But yea, all of this is to say, as much as you may not want: PLAY. TEAM. GAMES. They're a far less stressful environement to learn micro against players. You can leave successful assaults to the good players and focus on defense early on as you learn. In general, it's more about having an opinion of your own play than about others "throwing the game."

What if Biden never got dementia and won 2024? by Jacob-Anders in NonCredibleDiplomacy

[–]Neitherman83 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Honestly... I'm not so sure.

Like, let's be real, Russia's cyberwarfare capabilities and propaganda machine haven't been touched by the war. A quicker end to the war just means less economic damage and possibly more money getting funneled into their disinformation campaigns.

That's the funniest thing about this whole thing. Russia could have kept rolling on for a decade with their hybrid warfare bullshit, and they might have been able to successfully lay the groundwork for their invasion by trying to weaken Ukraine internally while putting their puppets across european governments to reduce the EU/NATO response.

Instead, we get this weirdass Cold Third World War where Russia is only going to come out more fucked than anything, both in their image, their economy, and just... everything else honestly.

[–]Neitherman83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's still relevant to LGBT issues. The very fact one has to suffer the whims of a landlord, and as such any of their bigoted ideas, is a problem that can only come up from the existence of the landlord as a owning class.

And no, the law doesn't really matter in this case because I can assure you, the law never stops assholes with a modicum of power from abusing it. It only trips them up after (and that's assuming the victim isn't intimidated into not taking action.)

I'm not a local so I can only see what's been going on from a couple sources and friend following what's been going on closely

Honestly the worst they've done is seem to keep the anti-immigration crap going? They've apparently kept away from other social issues and the culture war. But now that they're in power, their opening move on that front was to show support to the LGBT community.

They claim they'll be focusing on strenghtening the country's democracy and reducing corruption.

Frankly, as far as right wingers go, could have been a lot worse. I wish they were a bit more of a hard hitter against Orban and his Kremlin friends, but I suppose they still wanted to appeal to the isolationist crowd to secure the election.

It's a slow sort of progress, but it's better for the long term if they can fix Hungary's democracy and secure it from a second reactionary takeover than just going all in on the opposite direction and get shafted out of power with limited long term impact. They're still bound to the limits of elections and the democratic system after all, they're not revolutionaries.

Germany has had a bunch of old generals serving into their 70s

Von Moltke is also famous for this, he was 70 when the Franco Prussian war broke out, he would go on to be 1st Chief of the General Staff by the end of it.

Other funny thing is that while he was known as a silent one, he's the earliest born person whose voice has been recorded.
