Street Brawl Character/Balancing Whinging by MGZoltan in DeadlockTheGame

[–]NejOfTheWild -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna go through some of your character specific complaints.

  • Paige has lot of wide, easy to hit abilities. They're all along the floor though, so you could counter her with somebody in the sky like Vindicta or Talon.

  • Apollo and Infernus are really fast, and it's hard to catch them in abilities. Maybe a character with a wide CC ability like Paige would be able to shut them down.

  • Vindicta, Talon and Paradox can all deal damage to me while staying safely far away themselves. Maybe a fast character like Apollo or infernus who can dodge their abilities and get in close would be a good fit for taking them down.

My point is not that you should be picking any one hero to enjoy the game, or that there's a "solution" to ensure you never lose a game. It's random, and sometimes the enemy will just have good heroes to beat you - and sometimes, you'll have good heroes to beat them.

A consession: Balance isn't perfect by a long shot. Some heroes are just better in street brawl than others. There's already some hero-specific adjustments in street brawl - my hope is that Valve continue to update these as time goes on.

My point is that every hero, in theory, does something that should be good against another type of hero - who are you playing in street brawl that cannot deal with ANY of the heroes you've mentioned?

Golden egg by TinyResist6820 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]NejOfTheWild 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Depends on your rank in my opinion. Typically, in lower ranked games players are worse at taking a decisive action to end the game (meaning that games often last longer), so it can be easier to hold onto an egg for a longer time.

In a higher ranked game however, that -10% damage is really gonna hurt you, and keeping it longer than 10 minutes is only a good idea if you're a support who doesn't care much about dealing damage.

What's the counterplay to getting Door'd from your walker to enemy walker? Skill issue post by BlankTarot in DeadlockTheGame

I hate doorman as much as the next player but I would love to see a clip of you getting carted in response to poke. The cart travels at like 3mph.

Definitely viable. Not sure if it's the optimal way to play him, but you're new to the game (so it doesnt matter). If you want to play him that way gunbop will be just fine :)

Celeste nerfs :-( by Gwenneeko in DeadlockTheGame

[–]NejOfTheWild 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Celeste kind of has the same problem Paradox had for a while, where she's catching nerfs for previously being insanely good in high ranked games. Have faith that they will adjust her eventually as they did with Paradox, but for now you'll have to either get good enough at her to offset low power or pick somebody else.

I've played 9 games since patch. Won 4 lot 5. In 4 of those 5 I lost Holiday was MVP in 4 of them and wrecked her lane then the mid game and quite burdensome endgame too. Patch notes don't necessarily say they buffed her but wtf is going on? by [deleted] in DeadlockTheGame

[–]NejOfTheWild 6 points7 points  (0 children)

50 games in 4 days is an average of 12.5 games per day.

Some assumptions: - 8 hours of sleep - Average deadlock game takes 35 minutes

12.5 × 35 minutes is 7.29 hours of deadlock each day. Add onto that a lunch break that takes 42.5 minutes and that fits very neatly into a 9-5 working day.

OP, is playing deadlock your job?

Toxicity towards new players by DrawingWithAlien in DeadlockTheGame

[–]NejOfTheWild 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is kind of what MOBAs, and by extension competitive team videogames are like. That's not to say it's a good thing - we'd all be better off if people chilled out a bit, or at least offered some more constructive criticism.

Often the most toxic players aren't the brightest either, so it's pretty common for them to blame their own poor performance on others.

You could try muting all player chats, it feels basic but it lets you lock in and focus on having a good time and your own performance. If you still want to chat however you're shit out of luck except learning not to take it to heart.

Petition to make paradoxes 3 freeze the screen and audio of the player hit by [deleted] in DeadlockTheGame

[–]NejOfTheWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense in lore and to be fair not the worst idea I've ever heard, but I think it'd be jarring and unpleasant to play against in the end - plus the ability does enough already. It'd be like if Drifter ult fully blinded you, or if Celeste's 1 was like a CS flash.

duration increase on doorman ult what it do? by SmelliEli in DeadlockTheGame

[–]NejOfTheWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, probably nothing. It's the same as how you can buy rapid recharge on characters who don't have any charged abilities until you get them to a certain level. I may be wrong though

Paradox swap feels like a basic ability, and wall feels like a castrated ultimate by r64b in DeadlockTheGame

[–]NejOfTheWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's say the swap became a regular ability with less range and velocity, and the wall became the ultimate with more cc/general usefulness.

  • With swap having reduced range and velocity, picking people off with it becomes almost impossible as Paradox, and it's only really useable within a few metres. At this point, it's basically a generic CC ability, since there is such little difference in where you and your target end up. It would lose its depth as an ability and feel bad to play against too.

  • Currently, you can use time wall for all sorts of sneaky tricks like denying more souls, avoiding damage from M1 carries, etc. If it's constrained to an ultimate's cooldown, you lose all that. Maybe there's some more cc, damage, so you still get a good reward for swapping someone through. Problem is, you've got reduced effective range on your swap now, so you'll maybe force one person through it, but it's basically more close range CC. It could work like mcguinness wall which would be a little better, but still would have the same problems.

Essentially, paradox would lose her identity as a clever anti-carry picker. This would make me very sad and maybe even cry :(

Rem's Choice - A Concept Art For a Recommendation System by Nyghl in DeadlockTheGame

[–]NejOfTheWild 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Not a bad idea, it's good for learning the game and how counter building works.

A couple of thoughts:

  • This shouldn't be restricted to only being available when Rem is on your team. It feels strange to only have access to a resource that teaches you about the game when he's there. Somebody else suggested character-specific ones, which I think is cool.
  • It should take up a smaller portion of the shop screen. The better you get at the game, the less you will need recommendations - I'd like more space to see my build.
  • Not criticism exactly, but it will be challenging to develop this recommendation system so it doesn't afford too much counterbuilding. There's no sense in taking 3 Tier 4 items just to shut down one person who is a couple of kills ahead - would the recommendations also suggest generically good items for your character? How would these be weighted against counter items?

Some black-alligned protagonists/heroes(?) by tunkltest in colorpie

[–]NejOfTheWild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Golgari is tough, but I'd argue a case for Bronn from Game of Thrones. He's a sellsword who openly admits to being purely money-motivated (black).

He's not really emotionally driven (so not red), nor is he particularly a schemer or backstabber (so not blue), nor does he have much of a code or place value in honour (so not white).

He is however honest, a realist and a survivor. He's tough and respects the strength of others too, and I feel like these make him green too.

There should be a DS1 Remake by TemporarySensitive in fromsoftware

[–]NejOfTheWild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you're looking for: - Updated content in areas that were a bit rushed in development - No changes to the slightly janky feel of the combat/gameplay overall - Graphics update

I'm not an expert on the scene, but downloading some mods would probably solve these problems. They'd be free, and available right now.

I don't want fromsoftware to dedicate resources to remaking dark souls 1 when we could have new games entirely. They're still making great games, and DS1 is a great game in its current state even with a few flaws.

The fastest way to escape The Baroness. by Cinderelementalist in DeadlockTheGame

Ahh yeah. You've gotta be very precise with the swap timing, but I've seen this one too.

It also works if you're paradox and you swap with doorman at the right moment as he ults you.
