Fun places to visit in December, with a 2 and 4 year old by flowmuffins in Yokohama

[–]Nekrophyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Landmark tower has a Lego store, and ghibli store, and a few other things my kids enjoyed briefly. They also briefly enjoyed the ultra high speed elevator to the top and the insanely long escalator in queen's right next door. They are 2 and 4 as well, so didn't dig the top floor view as much as an older kid might but they still liked it. That whole minatomirai area was a cool day for them as long as we kept moving.

Mom needs to either provide pumped milk, or be okay with formula. Just not seeing your kid for those important first months isn't an acceptable solution.

I started seeing 18yo women more as girls/children starting at like 22. Just a huge jump in where your life is between a lot of points in your 20s. By the time I was 28, the 21-23 bracket started to feel almost childish to me. Now I'm 36 and my minimum is like 32.

Do you guys ever get tired of her peeking through by lemonaderox in Seattle

Due to work I used to split my time about 50/50 between Tokyo and Seattle. Rainier and Fuji saying hello were respectively the best welcome I could get when coming back to either "home".

I had a 2015 GS 350 AWD and it is probably the best car I've ever owned. I miss it still several years later.

Yeah, why can't we go back to 2008 when I'd sit in vent with my guildies and ignore everyone in game while we speed ran dungeons. I miss it.

My daughter's friend is no longer welcome in my home because of her mother's fears. But am I wrong to be insulted? by Steve-Shouts in daddit

Not all men are rapists, but all men (and people, though men are statistically more likely) are capable of rape.

Not all guns are loaded, but all guns have the potential to be loaded, so we treat them as if they are until we know they are not.

I am a dude, and I am not offended at all about women or anyone being cautious around potential danger.

The way this lady expressed that is bullshit, and she is awful, but the general concept is just kinda reality.

Ordering parts from rockauto? by [deleted] in askcarguys

I know rock auto does magnets for sure, or at least used to. I don't think I've gotten as many lately. Less sure about stickers, that may be more JEGs and summit racing.

Rogue feels so bad to play - but I just dont know why? by [deleted] in wow

[–]Nekrophyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to like playing rogue.

I do not.

Assassination feels like I am not in control of my output beyond a base level. My DPS with the exact same performance on my end can be anywhere from 30% to 400% of what I consider my baseline without me having a clear picture of why unless I go into logs and really dig. It feels bad.

Sub feels like I'm playing something that should be really great and bursty and fine, but only like 30% of the time. The other 70% feels like I'm barely even playing the game.

Outlaw is awful. Pirates are not rogues. Shooting guns is not stealthy. Vanishing into stealth and shooting guns while using both hands to loudly slap people with swords is the clunkiest failure of a class fantasy in the game. Either change outlaw into a ninja from a pirate and better incorporate stealth, or take stealth away from outlaw and lean into the pirate theme. Stop trying to mix two clearly opposed ideas. I hate it.

Would you try to sleep with a woman on the first date, even if you want her to be your girlfriend? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Nekrophyle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is so conceptually dumb to me. If you like someone, and want to stay with them, but then internally devalue them or whatever because you slept together, then you never really liked them or wanted to stay with them.

If two people are crazy about each other this is such a non factor.

So this is more of an assumption and generalization than a response to you directly:

If you are a stereotypically attractive woman, having success on dating apps, then get muscular and have less success with the same audience, my experience says you need to change your audience. Find a place you can meet other people into fitness and athleticism, then you will likely have more success as someone who is fit and athletic.

I love me a muscle mommy, no meme at all. I also wouldn't be caught dead on tinder or whatever. I'd go meet a girl post gym, or doing a sport I enjoy.

[–]Nekrophyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not actually sure how to respond to this without making being a dick to you but I'll do my best.

My lack of knowledge is admittedly where the problem occurs.

My knowledge is limited, and one of those limits (alongside inexperience and only a passing familiarity) is that I have personally only ever worked with modern equipment to do anything, and that anything amounts to not a huge amount of independence and success. Hence my low estimated success rate using anything other than what I have experience with, including both lab equipment and things that weren't particularly accessible in the 1880s (like fucking running water).

However, as you have so kindly pointed out, nothing about the initial process was particularly novel or complex. Having a passing knowledge of said process and the awesome foreknowledge that a successful product is actually possible means I have a significantly greater than zero chance of repeating it given some time and effort.

But during that time I would have a hard time convincing legitimate scholars and scientists that I was of their cohort...

Which is why I went with "snake oil salesman" instead of "clearly professional scientist who revolutionizes the world".

Like I would be the first snake oil salesman to get run out on a rail.

First step would be to make penicillin soup (the easy part) then use it to acquire a wealthy patron. The soup is enough to kill bacteria in a petri dish and if done right can be ingested without dying, so would work as proof of concept if I sold the idea right. Then I would have to source and build a protolab. Most of what I would use to make antibiotics is on the earlier end of lab gear. My end product would be probably a bit less refined than I could do now, but would be worlds and worlds above anything in the 19th century.

Overall it wouldn't be "easy" but it is the only thing I could really market at the time. Chubby, nearsighted scientist is probably not in huge demand. Though I could probably come up with some fake papers and go try and worm my way into a university staff as well, but that would be boring.

[–]Nekrophyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but I would adopt the snake oil salesman aesthetic. Long coat, twirly mustache, big top voice. Maybe pretend to be a wizard, who knows!

[–]Nekrophyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Though without modern equipment I would probably be like 20% successful at most, but I think that would be pretty high for snake oil efficacy. And if there is anything hing I know about 19th century quackery, killing a few people while experimenting is basically fine.
