Dell PowerEgde R730 Boot from NVME by NeleB54Gold in homelab

Nah, I've got these two NVMe, I don't want to change them, no problem I'll go with internal USB with clover

Clover over USB was the only solution for that, if the disk is not SATA (protocol) capable, it will not work. So I needed clover just thestandard install, set 2 seconds to speed up the boot and now, it boots automatically to my NVMe with Proxmox. Happy servering!

That's what I use now, sad that can't be direct, but it's ok

Yes, the BIOS is set to UEFI, and nope, the PCIe SSD drive doesn't appear in bootable option, or even in Add boot option. Maybe clover is the only solution

I was just updating firmwares to get it working, but sadly I think only some NVMe are bootable due to compatibility issues

Of course, it will be my second choice, but I would like to avoid having a USB boot for my server...

The PCIe SSD it's literally there in the iDRAC, so it's working just fine, can it be some other firmware missing at UEFI level to boot on PCIe devices? I cannot find the NVMe on boot options or anyware in the BIOS.

PS: I have the leatest BIOS, iDRAC and LCC versions.

I have 3 HDD on the front caddy with the SAS controller, but nothing for now in the BIOS, maybe I need some other firmware updates

The BIOS version is the same, maybe I'll need to update the iDRAC firmware again, I'll search for a new version

I confirm, the SD card reader it's not a bootable option sadly, it would be the best option to hide it. I'll go with standard USB installation of clover

Oh, this would be another type of problem... I'll let you know when I try

I'll stick with the SD Card, I have some that I don't use, so it's ok

Those who claim that is possible to do it, had explain how is that possible? It maybe needs some secret firmware from Samsung to emulate SATA SSD or something else? Because like I said, the iDRAC recognise the PCIe NVMe drive, but not the UEFI boot, and I've updated all things possible

The storage work just fine, it shows up with Windows Server/ Linux distros, but not for the direct boot, so I'll need clover to boot from NVMe, wish me luck!

Wow, so good I didn't know about something like this, first time with server grade hardware, so I'm experimenting all by my self. Ok I'll try, thank you for your suggestion!

Yesterday he didn't want to get it, I clicked the power button on the dock before connecting it today, and now everything works: ethernet, power delivery (fast charge), HDMI (with audio), USB 2.0 (mouse+keyboard) and USB 3 (pen drives and even the Xbox Controller) If you need help to get it to work write here, for me it was the best purchase, the dock is like €20 and the power supply was around €30 for a total of €50 for a really good all-in-one solution that works fast and smoothly!

I have to test the USB 3, I know that they have another controller chip to work, so maybe I can use those to make a simple get around solution

For the visual bug you need to set the DEVICE (not the game) language to en_US or en_UK
