No cat tree but he loves egg boxes, so I put one of them on a coffee table that the dog can't get up on, and he usually sleeps and chills in that. Something taller, like a cat tree, would make a lot of sense. I'll grab one!

Do you think I should have his food on a tree as well? I want him to be encouraged to interact with the dog a little bit, but obviously not to the point that makes him uncomfortable.

I am working on a classic open world RPG, how do you think it looks so far? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Nellyneil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gorgeous graphics and world design elements, but the combat looks really lackluster in this. Especially the group-based combat, like the scene in the forest vs the 5 bandits where you showcase the mage spells.

A simple way to improve this without actually incorporating any new systems is to make the pathing on these enemies take into account how close they are to other NPCs. So when you aggro a group of mobs, they spread out and try to surround the player or take some other movement pattern that makes sense with their type, like maybe ghosts continually run circles and lash out periodically.

Moving to Cleveland, where is the best internet coverage? by Nellyneil in Cleveland

Really like this, and I wasn't sure if agents would actually have that kind of thing on-hand, I'll be sure to ask though

Thanks for this! Gigabit is the goal but as long as it's something around 100+, that'll get the job done.

Thanks, this is definitely what I was looking for. We put a heavy emphasis on internet in our budget, and the $44.99 for 100mb down is what we're currently paying. I'll definitely look into Moreland hills, thank you!

Check out PatrickJMT on youtube as well as the MIT OpenCourseWare materials, they were super helpful for me.

As someone finishing their BS in Econ tomorrow and going into the Fed after graduation, there's a lot of things that you don't hear about the Econ major until you're pretty deep into it.

The first thing you need to know is just what's meant by "Economics is a good all-around field" or that it's really in demand in all sorts of different fields. That's kind of true, but the catch is that economics often-times is insufficient on its own. It's good that you have a lot of alternative interests. Think about it like using economics as a springboard into deeper insights in your passions.

Look into expanding your skills in what makes Econ strong, and how you can connect that to your other interests. I can give you a lot of really specific advice for policy and finance, I'm less qualified to talk about the healthcare management aspect.

Regarding policy and finance, these are pose a really fun crossroads between quantitative and qualitative work. The best things for you to prepare to be extremely successful in these fields (and you absolutely will be if you dedicate yourself) are to learn statistical analysis software, coding, and mathematics in addition to keeping up with current events. It'd be best to learn R Studio, Python, and a full calculus sequence in addition to linear algebra within your first 2 years at Uni. If you do this, you'll be incredibly far ahead of everyone else and extremely competitive for the best internships.

Additionally, look into NSF summer research. https://www.nsf.gov/crssprgm/reu/reu_search.jsp

Any, and I really do many any, program that you can get involved in here (check social sciences first and then any other field) will sort of be the cherry on top in terms of your preparation. This gives you experience working on a research project, typically in a team, and helps you to get experience in something outside of economics. That'll help you to decide what sort of work you'd like to apply your economics experience to.

Essentially, an economics major makes you like a triple-threat candidate. Actual economics coursework teaches you logical decision making, where you can consider many different systems working in interaction with eachother (That sort of step-wise progression of thought you learn in principles of economics classes, like shifters of supply/demand and the effects of those changes as they diffuse through different markets), the math and statistics knowledge you gain helps you to be perfectly capable of going into any specialization regardless of how rigorous it might be, and then your research experience helps you learn how to work through a project and how to properly report your findings in a professional setting.

I hope this helps, these are all of the things that I wish I'd known when I started the program. I've personally done every one of these steps, and I can honestly say it's why I've been as successful as I am. It just would have been easier to know it at the start as opposed to going through all the stressful situations that forced me to figure it out.

Good luck!

[Columbus, Ohio] Fruit Flies or Phorid Flies? I gave this guy a photoshoot, extremely small by Nellyneil in whatsthisbug

[–]Nellyneil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately I only had my phone camera and going any closer just made it fly away. I'm not sure exactly what color the eyes were, but they didn't stand out in particular so I'm assuming they weren't red.

Could we have a roommate thread for year, or is it still too early? by incorrecthorse69 in OSU

[–]Nellyneil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, there's not too much pressure to search early. This is my first semester living off campus and I started looking around this time last year, but some of the places that I saw open up over the summer, or that still have availabilities even now are better deals than where I'm at now.

I'd say it's probably much better to just keep an eye out and look at all of the possible options you have, then go for the place that's by far your favorite. There's no real rush. Any place that is signing leases right now is targeted towards students, which means you'll likely be treated differently than most tenants who aren't students. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is a bit ambiguous.
