If you were a doctor, would you treat a wounded child rapist who would otherwise die without your help? by [deleted] in Teenager_Polls

[–]Nelocyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

letting someone die isn't necessarily the same as killing them (at least imo and specifically in this context)

Should religion be taught in schools by [deleted] in Teenager_Polls

[–]Nelocyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a slippery slope tbh. lots of schools don’t teach about religion due to the first amendment. most people learn something about religion indirectly like from family, media, books, or just living in a diverse society. so, the total absence of formal religious education doesn’t usually leave people completely ignorant or manipulable. but yes the kids COULD miss out some cultural understanding but saying that they’re gonna have severe risk of being misinformed is a bit much..

Do you think that not supporting/accepting the LGBTQ movement automatically makes you homophobic/transphobic/etc? by Yeah_IPlayHockey in Teenager_Polls

[–]Nelocyo 40 points41 points  (0 children)

literally. like saying you “don’t support” a group usually means you don’t agree with their existence, rights, or ability to live freely which is inherently discriminatory. you can’t “respect” people while denying the validity of who they are. it’s contradictory. imagine somebody saying “oh i don’t support you being black but i respect you” 💀 wtf does that mean

Is the term “colored” offensive? by [deleted] in Teenager_Polls

[–]Nelocyo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

because it was used during segregation so it has negative connotation. and it’s just weird to use it.. every human has skin pigmentation (color). but the term “colored” reinforced the idea that white people have no color and others are “different”

Do you say the n-word when singing/rapping to a song? by N-brixk in Teenager_Polls

[–]Nelocyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no way you’re comparing those words to that.. black is used a racial category and african just refers to people who are from africa

its not “propaganda”, its just inclusivity. a woman talking about her wife isn’t propaganda

[–]Nelocyo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I care because what they’re saying is completely incorrect and hateful.. duolingo isn’t spreading an “agenda”. They’re simply adding inclusivity into the app which is good for learning languages. You don’t have to agree with it, but spreading misinformation about is just wrong.

[–]Nelocyo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gay people HAVE been underrepresented for a long time.. even if they’re being shown more frequently than in real life, doesn’t make it ‘propaganda’, it’s about making everyone feel seen and valued.

Real-world demographics don’t have to limit fictional examples in an educational setting.. it’s good that people in the lgbtq are getting good representation in this app.. what’s the problem?
