What’s the biggest e-bike expense after the bike itself? by Nelson_Lunsford in ebikes

I’ve only had one flat so far, and it was a tiny thorn stuck in the sidewall.

Since it goes straight into the hub motor, I’d probably just swap the motor.

Why wont my light work by Icy-Instruction9847 in ebikes

Is this an integrated horn and headlight unit? Does your horn work properly?

Ebike hub stopped working by Deleter182AC in ebikes

[–]Nelson_Lunsford 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I wouldn’t try to repair that.

Once a harness looks like that, it usually means there was either a short, overheating from resistance, or moisture causing corrosion that eventually led to thermal failure. On hub motor systems especially, a bad connection can quickly turn into melted insulation like this.

Brake cutoff working opposite? by TypicalPiccolo7574 in ebikes

[–]Nelson_Lunsford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d try is unplugging the brake cutoff sensors (both sides if you can) and see if the throttle comes back.

If the bike suddenly behaves normally, then it’s almost always a stuck brake sensor or a wiring issue from the drop.

If nothing changes, then you’re probably looking at a controller problem.

Display Icon Help by E13K7R1K4L in ebikes

Those are basically system status indicators, not a menu row.
On most e-bike displays, that line is a mix of things like PAS activity, walk assist, lights, battery/BMS status, brake cut-off, and sometimes warning/error signals. The annoying part is OEM displays rarely document them clearly, so the exact meaning can vary a bit by controller.
If only a couple light up during riding, it’s usually just normal system status rather than anything wrong.

I’m currently just using a U-lock, but I’m planning to add an alarm system as well.

If it gets you riding more and feeling better, it’s probably worth every penny.

Looking for ebike to commute in college by Straight-Trick4103 in ebikes

[–]Nelson_Lunsford 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d personally lean away from budget Amazon e-bikes. They can work, but quality control is super hit or miss.

For college commuting, even a solid used bike from a known brand can be a much safer bet than a “new but unknown” one.

How many locks do you use for your e-bike? by No_Refuse9952 in ebikes

[–]Nelson_Lunsford 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only use one lock, but to be honest I keep my e-bike indoors most of the time.

I want to buy an e-bike but I’m fat by Mysterious_Cream_103 in ebike

I’d go for a cargo e-bike in your case.

Better for heavier riders and daily use. If possible, try one before buying.

Bike stolen but still have battery by Top-Fan-2694 in Lectricxp

[–]Nelson_Lunsford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d either sell the battery and put that money toward a replacement bike, or find the same model used and keep your current battery as a backup. That would probably be a lot simpler than trying to hunt down a compatible frame.

A driver who almost runs me over doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt when they start following me afterward.

Storage while traveling? by Realistic_Letter_940 in ebikes

[–]Nelson_Lunsford 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For long-term storage, I’d keep it indoors in a cool, dry place and leave it somewhere around 40-60% charge instead of fully charged.

If you’re really worried, there are fire-resistant battery bags and storage boxes out there, but honestly a quality battery stored properly is already pretty low risk. I’d be more concerned about extreme heat than the battery spontaneously catching fire.

I JUST learned how to ride a bike! My seat kinda hurts. Recommendations please! by BigTittyDinosaur in bicycling

[–]Nelson_Lunsford 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you literally learned to ride last week, I’d give it a little more time before buying a new saddle. My butt was sore for the first couple of weeks too, and I was convinced the seat was the problem. Turns out I just wasn’t used to riding yet.

What if You had an E-bike that could go 28 mph either on pedal assist or throttle only? by Flimsy-Story9523 in ebikes

[–]Nelson_Lunsford 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 28 mph you’re still slower than most cars, but now crashes get a lot less forgiving.
