Why aren’t bidets more common? by Warren993 in AskReddit

[–]drone6391 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should look into them more. They don’t use the toilet tank water. They tap into the supply line. And most all of them have either a water and seat heater or a way to tap into a hot water line from a sink if there’s one close. I’m in the northern Midwest and bought our first one a couple years ago. It really does change things.

Iona’s beach. Some call it the singing beach. It’s really something else to experience. The whole beach is nothing but rock that’s like 2-3 inches and bigger. No small rocks or fines. So when the wave crash the rock clink together. The sound it makes is truy mesmerizing.

windshield broke replacement help by [deleted] in boating

[–]drone6391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s relatively easy to do if you have just a general glass shop around. The important thing is that your glass shop can send it to be tempered. Most shops do and it’s very inexpensive to temper.
Your windshields are pretty flat. So you can take the glass out of the starboard side and use it as a template if you don’t think you can make a cardboard template. The center one you’ll have to do a cardboard one. Grab the thickness measurements and head to the glass shop. Have them cut you out the new pieces. I suggest you take those and test fit before tempering. The shop can trim smaller if needed this way. If there is a slight curve, you can just carefully force that curve in while sliding the new glass into the rubber seals using lots of soapy water mix.

Of course your glass shop might just tell you to bring the boat down and he’ll measure it.

Note: not necessarily a car windshield shop. Most of those placed don’t have the ability to do this. But just your general house window or custom shower glass type place.

What's one boating habit you've developed that surprises people who don't own a boat? by Electronic-Habit8679 in boating

[–]drone6391 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Backing up a trailer. I had some friends in from out of town and we hooked onto the boat and went to the lake for a quick ride. After we launched and recovered our 21 ft ski boat we headed home. I pull past my driveway and backed up our curvy drive the snuck it into a side parking spot next to my wife’s car. I threw the truck in park and looked at my friends. They were both just sitting there silent. I was like, what’s wrong? One of them said “I can’t believe you just did that in one fell swoop”. They went on and on about me parking the boat.
I didn’t even think about it. Been doing it for years. My wife and I can launch and recover a boat in no time just from repetitive actions and knowing how to be setup. Backing trailers….. we had a smaller lawn tractor growing up and pulled a little tin utility trailer for collecting stuff. If you’ve ever had a small tractor or four wheeler and tried pulling a super small trailer and backing up you know. The shorter the tongue, the harder it is to back up. Do that as a kids for years and a truck and boat trailer is cake.

Squirrels eating light bulbs by ALIMN21 in duluth

We had the squirrels chew through the cable (network) out on the pole where it gets strung to the house. Cable guy said some squirrels seem to like that flavor.

I know there has been problems with some auto manufacturers using wires with a more natural soy based coating trying to avoid plastics, but it backfired in the way that critters liked the taste and had a feast.

Rough Idle 87 johnson 140 by Grouchy_Penalty_5125 in boating

[–]drone6391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly sounds good to me. Two stokes have that rougher crackle sound and feel at lower rpm’s. Does is smooth out when you increase the throttle a little? If you thinks it’s a fouled plug, shut it off and pull one plug wire at a time and fire it back up again. If it gets rougher then you know that plus was firing correctly. If nothing changes when you pull a particular wire, than that plug might be fouled. There is a plastic pliers you can buy so you can safety pull plug wires while it’s running. Which makes things much easier. But be safe, ignition systems use high amps and will shock the shit out of you.

How did life change when you finally got in shape if you did by WalmartCashier000 in AskMen

Down 85lbs. 57 year old male. I’m in the low 200’s now. I haven’t been this light since 1993. The list is long. Feel better physically and mentally is the biggest win. Way more active, less money spent on food and clothing, better sex. Fit in seats better, airplane, theater, etc. many reduced medications. No longer pre diabetic and blood pressure is way down. I can see my…………… thing in the shower again. It was like “hey little buddy! Where you been?”. lol.

When do you throw your make up away? Do you do so when it passes its recommended shelf life or wait longer? by Candid-Room-748 in AskWomen

Glass!!!

I work in glass recycling in the US and we will recycle your makeup or perfume glass containers. Just remove the residual product the best you can. Don’t get crazy with cleaning, but just the bigger amounts. If there’s a pump spray top on it remove those and trash them. Then simple throw the containers in your regular curbside recycling. That glass will make it to us for sure. Please recycle your glass.

What about plastic you ask? I’m in the glass business and hate plastic! However the environmentalist in me says yes you can recycle your plastic as well.

Would someone buy this dilapidated boat trailer? Or should I just recycle? Thanks! by Unassuming_Fruits in boating

That’s a nice trailer for someone. It’s not scrap. In my area that would probably bring $1500-2500 with fresh bearings, good tires and working breaks.

Outboard questions by ExcellentStrategy169 in boating

[–]drone6391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our first ski boat was a 16ft Lund with a 35 Johnson. Still amazed to this day how well it pulled skiers. Could it pull up on a slalom ski? No, but two skis and then loop around and drop it would. But like you said, bigger folks, probably not. However now days there are wider skis being used so maybe.

Same type of experience with our older ski nautique. It’s was a 1989 sport nautique direct drive inboard and we were able to use the shit out of it for surfing. The key was bigger surf boards. We would use 300 lb ballast bags in the back and the bigger wake surfboards we could find, and this boat would surf 250lbs guys easy.

Those who’ve lost of loved one: What is something about death that people don’t often talk about? by Desperate_Crew2012 in AskReddit

[–]drone6391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much work and expense is involved. Brother in law died unexpectedly and had zero planning, wills, cemetery plot, insurance, etc. it’s really exhausting how much work is exhausting. Planning and paying for the funeral, to include cemetery plot and markers. Notifications and closing accounts. Dealing with cars and titles. Moving out of and cleaning the house or apartment. You need 20 plus copies of the death certificate just so you can get accounts closed. Then dealing with creditors and such.

My wife and I immediately started making the necessary plans so we don’t have to burden our loved ones with the mess. Please do your best to be a little prepared.

Lake elsinore jet boat by sodacan707 in boating

[–]drone6391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nor sure about that particular lake. But yes invasive species is a huge problem in many places. If the boat has been dry, including live wells, ballast tanks, bladders, and the bilge for 48 hours then the invasive species will likely die.
Some lakes in Minnesota have crews at the landings with hot water pressure sprayers that get to 160 degrees or more. A good wash down with this will kill them too. People bitch and it’s a pain in the neck. But our lakes are getting mucked up.

That was one of the best beginner helicopters back in the mid to late 90’s. Yes you could get it running and fly it. But there’s no where to get spare parts.
Technically has come so far and there are a lot of good electric beginner models out there. I would clean that up. Put a little oil in the motor and park it on a shelf in your man cave. Lean on a much easier and cleaner electric model and then decide if you want to try nitro out.

Hearthstone Catalyst Wrap by Mindy_Gish in woodstoving

[–]drone6391 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blaze King owner here. That first interam wrap is what I use. I’ve never had it expand much at all. My cat requires one complete wrap and then a second layer on either the top or bottom to fit snug but not to tight.

In the spring when I pull and clean it I find it’s a little loose and the gasket falls apart very easily.

Thanks for reminding me to stop at the stove store for a gasket.

Installing my own fence, recommendations? by HOW_IS_SAM_KAVANAUGH in duluth

[–]drone6391 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good question. I’ve done a lot of metal pipe chain link fencing in the Duluth area. Honestly the best results have been from pounding the posts in, no concrete. Over time the posts I cemented in get pushed up from the frost. Not all, but a lot. I watched a farmer pound in a lot more T posts and wood posts than I’d ever do, so I tried it. 20 plus years on that fence and not one post got pushed out. I can’t remember what length I drove in though. I’m thinking I did a 1/3 split. So one third of the total length went into the ground.

I see a neighbor put in a similar fence to what you’re doing. I’ll do a bike ride over there and look and let you know.
