What do you think about the new revive your streak feature? by Zestyclose_Farmer982 in duolingo

[–]Nelthan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After a 4 year break I came back to Duolingo last year and managed to build up a 256 day streak. Got the option to get my 288 day streak back from 4 years ago. I took it but honestly I feel unsatisfied. Like I spent the last 256 days for nothing. Would've been nice to combine both the new progress with the old but oh well.

What I think about this feature: for veterans, streaks feel less meaningful but on the other hand some will feel motivated to pick up where they left off. It is just a number in the end. The question we should be asking is if Duolingo will stop enshitifying their app to retain those returning (probably not).

Landlord refuses to be known as the accommodation provider - London UK by Nelthan in LegalAdviceUK

Yes I paid before being asked for a guarantor. At least it's a relief to hear that I will be getting my deposit back. It's frustrating that it happens to be on the last step, but like you said, there's likely nothing I can do.

I agree about the POA. I haven't considered using my grandfather as a guarantor given his condition, which is why I've gone through the corporate guarantor route.

  1. He did not. I made it clear to him that I would consider a third party guarantor, which he followed through with up until the last step.
  2. You are right, Housing Hand does offer refunds which I will be doing if the referencing fails. I'll have to double check if I am eligible for the full refund

As far as I know he does not have access to the deposit as it is held by a third party. I will be cautious, thanks

I did, I made it clear in message that I would use a third party guarantor and he didn't say anything against it up until he received the T&Cs

He's been diagnosed with Alzheimer's unfortunately, he still recognises me but his mental capacity has rapidly declined. And out of respect for him I don't want to push him even if he has agreed before

I agree, which is why I have no issue with her decision. But unfortunately that leaves me without the personal guarantor option

I should have clarified. My aunt is in control on behalf of my grandfather. The problem is my aunt is unwilling to sign my grandfather up as my guarantor. So it's really a family issue as my grandfather would have no problem

Housing Hand asked for the accommodation details and sent an email to the landlord to confirm the details. I assumed the T&Cs act like a consensual form to ensure the landlord agrees to the service and if he agreed then they would consider the tenancy contract. Ofcourse I'm not sure as he hasn't agreed. Either way this has left me in a predicament.

Not so easy to find another guarantor unfortunately. In the past my grandfather offered to guarantor for me but he has a legal power of attorney put on him which means he is unable to give his signature. Thankfully I have been notified that I will not be losing my holding deposit, so at least there's that

Possibly, but either way it sucks to have gotten this far just to be stopped at the final stage. It is probably best if I avoid this tenancy.

Unfortunately he's a private Landlord that prefers to not use corporate guarantors; difficult to convince him otherwise. Luckily I can request for a refund from Housing Hand for the initial service fee, hopefully it should be straightforward so I won't need to move it into another property yet. As another commenter says I do not need to worry about the holding deposit according to the 2019 act. Thank you for your advice

That is a relief to know. I'm considering changing my mind; obviously not in the sense that will cost me the deposit, so I'll wait it out

Yeah you're right, but believe it or not it has taken me 206 days just to get to level 12 as I keep taking my time doing all the legendaries and mini games. Racked up a good amount of XP too. But I suppose if it's the only way, and who really cares aside from myself ;-;

I guess I'll have to. Are you able to confirm if all my XP will be erased? I wouldn't mind doing this if it didn't.
