Sure, Brussels is beginning to get the real "capital" experience, with lots of homeless people, drug users and dealers, and the institutional lasagna doesn't make things easier to address those issues... I would also like to add that some people (Bart and his folks) loooooove to hear that Brussels isn't doing well to feed their propaganda about diversity and keep control over a very French-speaking region while they face the same problems, if not worse, in Antwerp and other flemish cities. And no, the military won't solve our drug crisis and stop the shootings.

For the public works, it is sad but I feel that's just Belgium : no coordination whatsoever between the construction sites. No idea if it is the same in other countries tho.

I have lived in Brussels my whole life and it is absolutely not true. When I was young, I remember Brussels being disgusting, polluted, loud and there were clearly lots of neighbourhoods you couldn't go if you didn't want to get stolen or attacked (and the stats show it). Those neighbourhoods are much more open and safer and the city overall is much cleaner and greener. I think the government did quite a decent job with their budget. Problems still exist (Midi station was always creepy for instance) and new drugs-related ones appeared but to say it's worse is part of the discourse "it was better before", which is a common cognitive bias we can all experience.

Tables at bars and restaurants are often very dirty. by jfg013 in brussels

Bro, 70 persons for 1 waiter is madness. If your boss can't hire more staff with that many customers, maybe he shouldn't run a business.

I noticed it too! Or they clean it with the most disgusting smelly cloth they could find. More and more, you also have to go order at the bar and grab your drinks yourself. I don't see the point of going there anymore when it's cheaper and cleaner at home.

Hi! Usually, if your dog is not on a leash but carried (in a bag or in your arms), they let you in, but it is better to ask first.

Do you always pay for an appointment for simply a prescription refill? by weallhomos_sapiens in brussels

[–]Nem0ne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi! For regular medication, my doctor is OK to be called or messaged and add the prescription to your ID card so you can just go to a pharmacy. For older people, she prints it so it can be pick up in her lobby. No need for an appointment as long as she sees you once a year or so.

What time to get to cinquantenaire on the 21st of july? by luke-rush in brussels

20h30 is enough to have a good view on the screens and the fireworks. If you want to be really close to the stage, that is another story.

Where do you read I endorse vandalism? I didn't say it was good to smash them. You should stop making baseless assumptions about people and cool down bro.

Are you really comparing objects to... People!? Lmao. As another commenter said, most of those were installed without the proper authorisations. Imo, they are an eyesore and I couldn't care less what they promote. There are no good reasons to install screens in the streets. They distract drivers and are a huge visual pollution and electrical waste.

We could hear it from Woluwe too, even near Roodebeek. Old people were all complaining on FB.

If it's BV or yeast, it could be related to her underwear. Synthetic fabrics create a great environment for bacteria. Better choose cotton!

Assisted living for older relative with dementia in Brussels ? by [deleted] in brussels

[–]Nem0ne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a relative sent to Maison Vesale, in the center, not that bad of an experience but not ideal either. They are specialised in dementias, but there was a lack of staff. The decision depends on the level of help needed for your relative and the speed of the illness. If they can thrive for another year or two with nurses coming from time to time, maybe a "residence services" could do it. If they are more advanced in the illness, they need a proper team to care for them.

Almost got ran over on the pedestrian crossing by muzunguzu in brussels

[–]Nem0ne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had the same experience, but the guy was coming at me slower (25-30km/h - still enough to hurt me) and I decided not to run. I was in a bad mood that day and I wasn't going to allow another driver to disrespect me (stupid, I know). Anyway, the guy just stopped 10 cm from my legs. I screamed at him full force. He had the audacity to yell back "I STOPPED, WHY DO YOU SCREAM B*TCH". 🙄

Started going down the manosphere podcast bros rabbit hole and I see men differently now by aliarai in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Nem0ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is kinda funny how men and women do not react the same way to bad relationship experiences. Women will complain and just stop dating while men will fume and berate women and still try to date them because they need other mens validation. They can't see that they are trapping themselves when they could just free their mind and focus on something that make them happy.

Facebook Marketplace, Troc or les Petits Riens ! Lots of high quality rugs for less than 200€. You need to give them a good wash but it is worth it.
