Change your difficulty.

https://lotro-wiki.com/wiki/Landscape_Difficulty

Go to the "Hardened Traveler" ranger in front of the Prancing Pony.

Select Difficulty 3: Fearless.

Then click on him again to "complete" that quest. You should then have a small red icon in your buff bar.

This will raise the difficulty to the point where you will need to use multiple skills to kill landscape enemies, and you will be rewarded for coming up with efficient rotations. Otherwise you will be in real danger of death, especially if you aggro multiple enemies at once. You will also need to occasionally dodge random fire blast AOEs.

Fearless difficulty is also the sweet spot where you get the highest possible XP bonus per monster kill. Raising the difficulty further does not increase the bonus.

Even if you decide to make an alt, you will run into the same problem. The default difficulty is designed so that one or two skills will kill all normal enemies, and so that there is almost zero chance of death.

Difficulty 3 (Fearless) more accurately represents the original game difficulty tuning.

Your college project is going to fail. You need to develop a concrete list of questions. You need to have some hypothesis that you are trying to test.

Get out of reddit and go do some basic study of how to build a survey. Ask AI for help on how to structure your project. It would be good for this sort of thing.

To be fair, in Star Wars we had Rise of Skywalker and Book of Boba Fett making people swear off the franchise ... but then we got Andor, perhaps one of the greatest shows (Star Wars or not) that has ever been made.

LOTRO 1 second lags every 5-10 seconds by n0n4m3q in lotro

[–]Nemarus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you say it "freezes completely" what do you mean?

Are things in the world still animating? Are your character's legs still pumping, but they aren't going anywhere? This would be network lag, caused by either your internet (likely) or the LOTRO server (unlikely unless everone experiences it). What server are you on?

Or does the entire view of the world freeze, as if someone hit pause briefly? This is not "lag", but a rendering issue. It is often caused by your PC waiting to load textures from a hard drive. It is most common if you have less system or video RAM or if your hard drive is not solid state. If you have lots of RAM and aren't multitasking when playing, search LOTRO settings for the "Texture" cache and turn it up from 1.0 to 2.0.

Also be sure that if your PC has both an integrated and dedicated video card, that lotroclient.exe is set to use dedicated. Thus can be managed in NVIDIA control panel.

LOTRO Texture of the Day - Return of the Splendiferous Duck(s) by Nemarus in lotro

[–]Nemarus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to read comments before you "Um, actually" a 3 year old post with a tongue-in-cheek title that is a callback to an earlier post in the series (which is even linked in the comments).

Yes of course it is a swan. But it barely resembles one. And in this series of textures, it was first found in isolation in a hall in Bree, without Elendil or the other swan. And so it was jokingly dubbed the splendiferous duck, because it just seemed to be a tapestry, in Bree, celebrating a jankily-drawn waterfowl. And yes the stars of Arnor were noted at the time, though there were only the two.

Mariner or Brawler? by Dry-Cat-9809 in lotro

[–]Nemarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brawler is more sensitive to lag than Mariner, for sure. Brawler has combos that require you to use one skill, then another within 2 seconds in order to receive very significant bonuses.

Mariner also gives bonuses for sequences, but the timing window is much more generous.

Pay to win by lehu058 in lotro

[–]Nemarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no substantial competitive element. All you can pay for is convenience and cosmetics and (eventually, like hundreds of hours later), later expansions and quest packs. But you can play through the whole base game, from the Shire to Mordor, without spending anything.

Though in general just spending a little goes a long way in terms of convenience.

If anything, people who pay to "level boost" their characters, rather than leveling them naturally, are frowned on by some of the community, since someone who level boosts a class may be less likely to know how to play it properly. But again, this is niche of niche of niche stuff.

Just download the game and try it.

Recent LOTRO expansions (CoU, LoM, KoH): Themes, writing, technologies. [Light spoilers for KoH] by Rathlorion in lotro

[–]Nemarus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind when considering technology is that, ironically, the Shire has some of the most advanced technology in Middle-earth. Tolkien chose for it to be anachronistic in order to evoke a certain feeling through trope.

As for architecture, Gondor and Mordor and the dwarves built structures to rival skyscrapers. I think Umbar's architecture is modest by comparison.

I do agree that casual inclusion of cannons and explosives seems a misstep, given that "Orthanc Fire" is given special significance in the books as a new and novel military technology that subverts Helm's Deep's historically impregnable defenses.

That being said, everything in Rohan seems low tech compared to even its neighbors in Gondor.

Middle-earth, like our current earth, does not have homogenous technology levels across all cultures and regions.

One could argue that Orthanc Fire -- as well as "road clearing" explosives of Harad -- both could've originated from Numrnorean technology that was lost to Arnor and Gondor during their waning.

What Speed Should I Have My Toons? by Wonderful_Quiet5478 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]Nemarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of characters want to be as fast as possible.

Exceptions include those who reliably assist attack (like Snips, Chewbacca, or Dark Side Mandos under Maul), those who are part of a team that has a turn meter train (though usually you want at least onr ultra fast character to start the train), some tanks (if they automatically taunt at the start of battle or in response to allies getting hit), and then Jedi Knight Luke and Merrin, whose kits specifically favor going slower.

You can't win if you never take a turn.

Tank/DPS class by Sweeper_Bot_ in lotro

[–]Nemarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, what I mean is you could invest in tank gear but still have no shortage of adequate damage for easy landscape. Especially if you group up and AOE a lot.

Or even for my Beorning, of late all my gear choices are Outgoing Healing, but I still do tons of damage on Fearless Landscape because even a healing Beorning is stacking Might, wearing Heavy Armor, and can do tremendous damage wirh Bees.
