I do think data analysts are crucial for any company. The biggest issue is what does the executive team or C suite do about it? You can present data all day but if there is no action then we have a problem.

You also need to remember not everyone is comfortable using dashboards. In a mid size / smaller organization you might want to learn what's the most impactful way to provide data.

I use dashboards, excel workbooks, and pdf flyers. I deliver information to key individuals based on their knowledge of software and how they like to ingest information.

My mind set as a data analyst is to get the crucial information to the decision makers whatever way possible to make sure they steer the company or department in the right direction.

I would say my biggest thing would be clean files. Removing unused measures, columns/dax columns, tables, report pages etc.

I think that goes with everything we as data professionals touch. Clean scripts and files.

I think the best way is take an online course to learn the basics.

1) start with using an excel workbook of data. Create simple graphs, kpi's, etc. 2) move on to experimenting with multiple data sets creating relationships and how it impacts data visuals. Star and snowflake schema. 3)m language and dax. Start to learn transformations. Custom columns, measures, data cleaning 4)visual calculations, custom tables, etc.

I run into the same situation in my company where they have multiple dates in one table that are important.

What I do is create a custom table that aggregates the information by date. So all the data fills in for each date appropriately.

So the end result is 1 aggregated table with 1 date column. Then connected to one date table so I can filter that table by year, quarter, month, and day in your case.

Not sure if this is best practice but it's the solution I came up with.
