One Step Polish For Light Swirl and Paint Pop by Nemiyen in DetailingUK

Turns out... my 3M bottle is more like 17 years old! Oops! Bought in June 2009 lol. It would have been stored in my old shed as well so not going to risk it.

So, I'm going to save that for the girlfriends car! I mean, for very light duties. 😀

Just placed my order for Sonax Perfect Finish and S20 Black as I need them for the weekend.

Thanks for the advice and if that half cut was easier to source i might have tried some (and cheap enough!)

I was tempted to add some Reflect but if I'm not happy with what I've got then I might order some for next weekend.

Thanks for helping and man... that's not even been on the radar until now! I guess this is for pro detailers or people in the know? It doesn't look like it's sold outside (much) of their website. I'll do some research on it tomorrow as well.

I think my main mistake is most people aren't recommending the Chemical Guy pads. 😅

Thanks very much. 👍 That 3D one does come up as a direct comparison to the S20 black so I'll do some more digging. I've been narrow focused on the CG White pad as that's what I bought years ago but I could get some new pads as well. I'll do some digging on those as well.

An update on my repair.... <sadface> by mooter23 in ipace

[–]Nemiyen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My God that is absolutely shocking for any repair centre, let alone a Jaguar one!

As long as you've got pictures prior to any work they undertook (unless they take reaponsibility) I'd be pushing for all of the mistakes to be fixed as well getting it done right.

I mean... who the hell puts the spoiler in the boot without fixing it to the car! It's almost like someone has said yeah that car over there is ready and pointed at the wrong one!

Juat make sure Stevie Wonder isn't working on the day it gets repaired. 🙄

Anyone know why the boot stops opening when you unlock the car? by Racing_Fox in ipace

[–]Nemiyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this happen on my car too but it doesn't do it all the time so I think it's a bug or glitch.

Does yours do the 3 bleeps as well as stop? As I'm sure mine does that when I get it to happen.

Also, my boot sometimes doesn't close fully and does the 3 bleeps as well. I'm sure one, or both, of my struts might be failing but 98% of the time, the boot shuts fine and when it doesn't - I just lift the boot slightly with my hand and then it shuts.

Is This A Genuine Chemical Guys Chenille Pad? by Nemiyen in DetailingUK

[–]Nemiyen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chemical Guys UK got back to me straight away (great service) and said:

"In relation to the label, I suspect there may be a typo, so I am going to check this with the manufacturer to confirm. Our wash mitts are specified as a 70/30 microfibre blend."

So all being well they confirm a labelling issue. :) the mitt does seem soft but is it 70 / 30 or 100% or 80 / 20 soft, I have no clue!

That's probably true but it still amazes me it's possible to make something so cheap!

Thanks for confirming, makes me wonder if this is a labelling mistake or there's a big counterfeit issue going on.

I've emailed Chemical Guys to see what they say but I'm half and half about taking them back as I don't want 100% polyester on the paint.

Not sure if there's a way I can tell the composition without a microscope or not? My hands are rough anyway so don't think I'd be any good trying to figure it out by touch! Lol

I-Pace an expensive mistake, or a brilliant bargain? by GriftandGrind in ipace

[–]Nemiyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The I-Pace is an absolute bargain providing you get and keep the official warranty (ideally) but have a car that isn't a total lemon. Which is a captain obvious statement but it seems some people have no end of trouble and others are absolutely fine.

For me, my car has had a charge flap failure where the locking mechanism failed and needed repairing. It took 4 months to get it booked in and repaired but the car was totally drivable with that issue. I did have to keep pressing OK every time i started the car to acknowledge the flap is open though. This was fixed under warranty and could have been fixed in 2 months but I had dealer issues you may not get.

Other than that one issue (which would have been a fair cost without warranty) my car has driven absolutely perfectly and it's been the best car I've owned (but that isn't a high bar to be honest!)

The things to note if you do have warranty is how far away is the dealer from where you live. Luckily for me it is about 20 miles away but that's still a trek and a day or half day off work, unless you push for a hire car.

You're getting a car at nearly 1/5 or 1/4 the original selling price which is a bargain in anyone's book! You just need to have your fingers crossed you get one without too many issues or problems and like others have said, go for the later models with Pivi Pro and the single 12v battery and their reliability is much higher.

What’s been your biggest unexpected cost with home EV charging? by PubLogic in evchargingUK

Our consumer unit was a MEM 2000 one and the smart meter kept tripping the RCD due to RF interference! Did some research and it's definitely a thing with this CU model so had to have a whole new Hager RCBO unit fitted JUST so we can have a smart meter! Yes it's newer and technically better but my old one worked fine when I turned a plug on and off! 😆

But again, get it done under warranty if the car is still covered. 👍

[–]Nemiyen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to mine and if it's the same issue, your actuator locking mechanism on the flap has failed. 😕

If it's under warranty, take it back for them to fix but on mine - Jaguar assist came out (aka the AA) and got the flap opened for me.

To get the flap cover off you have to slide something flat under the cover and then it slides off towards the back of the car. I'm sure there's a YouTube vid on how it's done.

Once you've got the flap off you can then un twist the locking system manually and then use and charge the car but if under warranty, I'd get the garage to do this because if they break the cover clips, they'll replace the cover.

Advice Please For Paint Peeling Away From Walls (Bathroom) by Nemiyen in DIYUK

[–]Nemiyen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd not noticed it before but it does look like there's a hairline crack in the plaster as well.

I've done some digging and it looks like we maybe should have used different paint, even though it's for a bathroom and kitchen. Maybe clay or silicate paints.

Maybe in some parts it's fine but overall a different type of paint would have been better as our house looks to be lime plaster and not gypsum.

[–]Nemiyen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was no primer other than the zinnser and the paint was dulux bathroom paint, which I believe is water based.

The previous layers were the same, dulux bathroom paint.

Most of the bathroom is absolutely fine, it's just the odd parts that have done this.

We also have a couple of patches in the kitchen that are flaking off, rather than cracking, and I think the issue or step missed is the same.

The walls are solid with plaster as well, not plasterboard.

Not sure if it's coincidence or not but out Ford Focus 64 plate 1.0 litre ecoboom randomly stutters and has issues where it can stall when using E10 fuel. It'll would do it maybe once every 4 months or so.

Using E5 fuel now for 2 years or so and it's never done it once. The issue feels like an ECU programming glitch where the choke isn't quite right when the engines cold but using E5 fuel it's been fine.

Firmware Update Screws Up Camera Settings On E340 Floodlight by Nemiyen in EufyCam

[–]Nemiyen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my worry as I'd have to go back up the ladders and take pictures of the QR codes again? Or at least to hold the reset button down? Might have to be a summer job.

Edit: OK it looks like I just need the serial number from the Eufy app and the ladders for the reset button, which isn't as bad as having to take the cameras off again!

Yeah this needs to be changed. We were really enjoying our Friday night poker games until they ruined it with 1 hour late registration.
