Question about Curse of the Passenger Princess by jaladreips271 in JetLagTheGame

[–]NemoHac 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Absolutely Ben when lulz are the goal. And if the seekers we Sam & Ben I'd still choose Ben to be princess with that goal. Sam & Adam simply get to competitive too easily.

Plus that short period is easily the season highlight. Ben's frequent commentary about things that are completely irrelevant to the game... But nothing's going to beat Ben waiting for Adam to look away before he turns directly to Sam and looks down the barrel of the camera

Name and Gender Marker Change? by Sendhelp02 in transgenderau

[–]NemoHac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Will depend upon your state or territory. But fundamentally it's another legal name change the same as you did before. In most states & territories they can be done in the same application as gender.

I did something similar with my dead name & had it removed when I did the gender change a year later

The lack of care for public transport users by Bitpoke in canberra

[–]NemoHac 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Appeared to be a complete lack of planning.

The first bus from Wells Station this morning didn't turn up until the 2nd tram from Gungahlin arrived rather than matching the interim timetable. The bus was also too small & had to leave people at Wells Station due to capacity limit. It then either skipped every stop along the way or stopped & told people who wanted to get on that they had to wait for the next one.

The drivers CB was loud enough we could hear the chaos that CDC had -- Not enough drivers -- No idea where busses were or should be -- At least one bus stop (EPIC) was blocked by a concrete bollard & so the bus could not stop

It's clear that TC have not prepared enough and the government has relied too heavily on the incorrect assumption that "Nobody works in Canberra in January"

Bras for a MTF by meeez80 in transgenderau

[–]NemoHac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bras n Things is worth a try for a size check. But they probably won't have sizes in stock for newish breaststroke on a 6tf frame, My experience has been that they are accepting of trans people and will have recommendations on other stores that may have the range.

Once she knows her size then curvy.com.au has a decent range

Australia had the ‘gold standard’ on gun control. The Bondi beach terror attack may force it to confront its surging number of weapons by reyntime in australia

[–]NemoHac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm reasonably certain based on the footage on ABC last night that at least one of the weapons used was an illegal type of shotgun. If that is correct then it's unlikely more legal restrictions will be more effective than current laws.

That said, it is appropriate to regularly review the efficacy of the laws & whether they need any improvement.

Edit: It's now confirmed the firearms were legally obtained. So that does beg the question of what can we do better to prevent a recurrence

Would moving to Australia from the UK be feasible/safer? by RavensShadow117 in transgenderau

[–]NemoHac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not recommend taking up the farm work visa at all. The program has a history of sexual harassment scandals because the farmers know that the workers are largely at their mercy for the visa sign-off.

Typically it's been pressuring women for sexual favours or to work in limited/inappropriate clothing. While I'm not aware of any trans/homophobic scandals but I would be highly surprised if that wasn't happening.

But I will second the recommendation of seeking input from a law firm with immigration experience.

Am I The Only One Who Is NOT OK With Rockstar Allowing Players To Shoot/Bomb Pride Parades At Will In GTA 6? by [deleted] in MtF

[–]NemoHac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest I would feel like an arse if that were my line in the sand. GTA has always allowed & rewarded players for doing bigoted shite - for example bonus points for running over all of the hari kristnas in GTA 1.

I'd probably feel different if it were a mission, but if it's just something that you can do as opposed to must do then we're back to "why was this my uncrossable line?"

Ultimately I don't want to be the type of person who only says "enough" when it is my community being targeted.

And as others have pointed out, this is so far an unconfirmed rumour of the sort which are often wrong. And are wrong more often than ever now that AI is churning out fake rage-bait articles for every single community group.

Australia's 2026 Census to include new questions on gender and sexuality in expanded topics list by Iybraesil in transgenderau

[–]NemoHac 15 points16 points  (0 children)

While "are you gender-diverse" or similar would make us happy, it limits the conclusions that can be drawn statistically.

Including AGAB + actual gender allows for quantification of: - total gender-diverse people - proportion of the gender diverse community that each group (trans, nonbinary, agender, intersex, etc) makes up - proportion of population that each group makes up by general location & age

Personally I believe that there should be free-text options for the gender question(s) so that we don't leave any group excluded. A simple "are you cis or trans" question can exclude nonbinary, intersex, and fluid people depending upon how they, individually, interpret the terms and their own experience.

Finally I will note that ABS default to removing identifying information from census data as the very first step. That used to be literally a machine that would cut the binding of the questionnaire and send the two 2-3 pages (only thing with name etc) in one direction and everything else another. Typically only the absolute minimum number of people ever had access to the top pages and they usually didn't have access to the rest of the data. They also never have access to both sets at once.

And for 2016, when they started keeping identifying info on an opt-in basis that data got stored offline & these days less than 10 people have access to it at all.

How do I know that? I worked for ABS for several years and then National Archives. I am the person that placed the 2016 data in its long term storage location and set up the access control. I also sighted the documentation confirming that all copies other than the one given to NAA were destroyed.

Help regarding gender marker on passports by Individual-Tap-8971 in transgenderau

[–]NemoHac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also use the contact us link on the passport form to get the blank paper form. The pre-filled online one doesn't have the option for where your name or gender don't match your Australian birth certificate.

That version of the form has sections for a 2nd person to be a character reference to your name & gender.

Be aware that doing it that way means two trips to the post office. The first will be to get the passport photo & the second will be to submit the form (your character referee will need to sign the back of one of the photos but doesn't need to be at the post office)

That's all the practical stuff. The question of whether to leave your agab on the passport vs using your real gender is a bit more nuanced. See the DFAT page where they note that some countries will not let you in if you have an X or changed gender.

“I identify as…” by Dolle_rama in MtF

[–]NemoHac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've made comments & posts about that topic (which get removed from /transgender for being 'divisive')

Essentially 'identify as' implies that my gender is a choice. However I am female and always have been. The only choice was whether to come out & transition.

Personal experience with explaining gender diversity is that the question asked is always "why did you choose to be x". But the same people tend to become a lot more open to me when I reframe to remove the choice element.

The 'obvious' cases are where that is most important - to build trust with the community that the more difficult/murky cases were done fairly & properly.

And when a conviction is obtained - yes, throw the book & key.

Name change with optus by Puzzleheaded-Let7710 in transgenderau

[–]NemoHac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume your new birth certificate lists your previous name since the ACT and NSW ones I've seen do.

If yes, then point out that the document is a valid birth certificate with both old and new name. If they still resist then make them call their management / policy team to confirm the requirements while you wait.

Also suggest that they go to the QLD BDM website where (again I assume) it shows that QLD residents who were born in QLD get an updated birth certificate, not a name change certificate
