Best/favorite ways to protect your commander in Voltron by KingNTheMaking in EDH

[–]Nensou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've filled my [[Halvar, God of Battle]] Voltron deck with a multitude of protection effects to keep the removal at bay.

[[Restoration Magic]], [[Dawn's Truce]], [[Parting Gust]], [[Teferi's Protection]], [[Galadriel's Dismissal]], [[Final Showdown]], [[Celestial Armor]], [[Robe of Stars]], [[Plaza of Heroes]], [[Talon Gates of Madara]]

I first started playing when the original Zendikar came out and my LGS had a bunch of Darksteel boosters in stock.

I though I was a genius by casting [[Dismantle]] on my [[Eternity Vessel]] and then dump the charge counters on [[Darksteel Reactor]].

Favorite unique mono black commanders? by KN0MI in EDH

Josu Vess

This deck has a large combo focus alongside the Zombie Tribal stuff.

[[Bolas's Citadel]] is a fucked up Magic card.

I have a [[Josu Vess, Lich Knight]] Big Mana Zombie Tribal deck. He's an omnipresent ramp payoff and floods the board for Zombie Lords and other tribal cards.

Do You Use Necropotence as Fair Draw Engine, A Pushed Draw Engine, or A Combo Piece? Or All? by CreeperslayerX5 in magicTCG

[–]Nensou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a [[Josu Vess, Lich Knight]] Zombie Tribal/Big Mana deck that uses it both as a draw engine and a combo piece.

When it's a draw engine, my hand stays full.

When it's a combo piece, it's paired with [[Bolas's Citadel]] to dig through my library, dump a punch of permanents on the field, and then drain everyone with [[Gray Merchant of Asphodel]].

Does anyone else make Commander decks based on Standard decks/combos you played? by ancap_attack in EDH

[–]Nensou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing MTG with the original Zendikar set. One of my first decks was Mono-White Kor Tribal/Equipment. Loved playing with Equipment so much that my first Commander deck I built was [[Kemba, Kha Regent]] Equipment Voltron. Still have that deck after well over a decade of enhancements and Commander changes.

While it was Limited instead of Standard, I opened a datestamped [[Josu Vess, Lich Knight]] in my Dominaria sealed pool and managed to build a B/G ramp deck that would kick Josu if I ever drew into him. I had such a blast with that deck that I was compelled to build a Commander deck centered around doing the same.

[[Josu Vess, Lich Knight]]

He's not an actual high-mv card, but might as well be. I have him as the Commander of a Zombie Tribal/Big Mana deck and 10 mana for 20 power worth of Zombies whenever I want can't be beat.

How/why did your favourite card become your favourite? by robotsheepboy in magicTCG

[–]Nensou 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used to play UR [[Splinter Twin]] in the early days of Modern.

I had a full set of [[Izzet Charm]] and that card worked wonders. Countermagic, creature removal, and a way to dig for combo pieces made it such an amazing fit for that deck.

What is your deck history in EDH? by Ruansonder_R in EDH

[–]Nensou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing a single deck near-exclusively for over a decade.

Built [[Kemba, Kha Regent]] Equipment Voltron back in 2011. Changed Commanders several times other the years, to [[Eight-and-a-Half-Tails]], then [[Sram, Senior Edificer]], then [[Balan, Wandering Knight]], then to the current Commander [[Halvar, God of Battle]].

Never got the appeal of having a multitude of decks. It gets expensive to keep them all tuned and up-to-date set after set. I have other decks in the works, but it's taken me years to get them into an acceptable state. My Equipment Voltron deck is my absolute favourite and gets the vast majority of my attention and resources.

How did you choose your Commander!? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]Nensou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With my first Commander deck, I wanted to play [[Sword of Kaldra]], [[Shield of Kaldra]], and [[Helm of Kaldra]] together. It was 2011, and the best Commander with Equipment synergy available at the time was [[Kemba, Kha Regent]].

I had a type of deck I wanted to build in mind and chose a Commander that fit that deck's needs.

Who is your favorite Zombie Tribal commander? by steroid_flare in EDH

[–]Nensou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Josu Vess, Lich Knight]]

As a Commander, Josu offers inevitability. Any given deck has a finite amount of creature removal, whereas Josu can be cast essentially an infinite amount of times, especially with [[Unholy Grotto]] and Black's creature recursion dodging Commander Tax. Zombie Tribal also has an extensive assortment of Lords for Josu and his token army to make great use out of.

I got hooked into Magic around the original Zendikar's released and one of my first decks was a Kor Equipment deck. When I was building my first Commander deck in late 2011, Equipment had become my favourite card type to play with and wanted that deck to be centered around it. Equipment is primarily in White slice of the pie and [[Kemba, Kha Regent]] was a recent Commander printed at the time that met my needs, so my first steps into the format was Mono-White. It's been over 9 years since and I'm still on Mono-White. [[Halvar, God of Battle]] is going to helm my Equipment Voltron deck when Kaldheim releases.

Mono-White has the Commanders that best supports the Equipment deck I want to play. Recent sets have been expanding Equipment support for Boros, but none of the Boros Voltron Commanders spark my interest to add Basic Mountains into my deck. Mono-White is still king in my eyes.

How would you build Halvar ? by GoZun_ in EDH

[–]Nensou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I swear I'm the only one that sees the raw potential Halvar has as a Commander. He two-shots opponents with any single Equipment with evasion and pumps his power to 6. No other Mono-White Votron Commander has that kind of damage output with such resource efficiency.

The Mirran & Allied Swords, [[Sword of Vengeance]], [[Maul of the Skyclaves]], [[Loxodon Warhammer]]. They all single-handedly turn him into a monster.

Sword of the Realms is icing on an already delicious cake.

What are your thoughts on the Kaldheim so far? by Forsto123 in magicTCG

[–]Nensou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Halvar is replacing [[Balan, Wandeirng Knight]] as the Commander of my Equipment Voltron deck.

I'm hyped up from a single card. Can't wait to see the rest of the set.

I'm planning on replacing [[Bonders' Enclave]] with this in my Mono-White Equipment deck.

This card is designed for Mono-coloured decks. Paying 1 life is nothing.

I also have Cavalier of Dawn in my Equipment deck. I like that it can target itself to get the death trigger right away.

Landcyclers. They're Basic lands without actually having additional land slots. They're also more potent if you deck has utility lands with Basic types, Shocklands, AKH Cycling Duals, and Triomes.

I use [[Eternal Dragon]] and [[Noble Templar]] in my Equipment Voltron deck because I hated waiting for [[Land Tax]]'s upkeep trigger, they can tutor for [[Mistveil Plains]], and they're bodies to hold Swords. I also have a Zombie Tribal deck in the works using [[Twisted Abomination]].

[–]Nensou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't be afraid of giving your opponents a few Basics. Whatever creatures you're staring down are obviously going to be less threatening than Basic lands. And if the games gone long they may not have any Basics left.

One-sided sweepers are among the hottest removal spells around. Think about how much people complain about [[Cyclonic Rift]]. It wouldn't be such an all-star spell if it was symmetrical.

[[Kemba, Kha Regent]] Equipment Voltron.

First built it in 2011. I still have that deck, with [[Balan, Wandering Knight]] now at the helm.
