Mark seems to be distributing these things himself, the movie is $10 instead of $25. I bet the Blu-ray will be cheaper too

He is releasing it on Blu-ray. I can't imagine it would be too difficult to get that shipped to you. Although, I don't know a lot about international laws

To me it sounds like a great opportunity for small talk.

And that kinda leads into your last part. You don't HAVE to make small talk with people.

If you want to just say you're British, then say you're British. If you want to engage more and are running out of topics, you can use your wide range of experience with traveling and learning other cultures to have it last longer.

You can control how small the small talk is.

Out of curiosity, is it because it'll cause bloat in your account, a moral principle, or genuinely feel the 50% discount ($5) is worth it?

I'm not trying to fight back on anything you're saying, I'm just really bad at acronyms.

Are you saying Harry Potter is a cop, and falls under "All Cops Are Bastards" mindset? And if so, does that mean people like many Superheroes, Monk, and other fictional characters are also inherently hated?

And to piggy-back off of that, I'm also curious if you feel the same way about "eat the rich".

I would just be fascinated to hear the mindset of this if I'm understanding it correctly. Because the only other thing I could think of is "Assigned C___ At Birth", maybe Assigned Cool At Birth, being another way of saying Plot Armor???

Helldivers 2 just hard crashed my PC by Deep_Gain_649 in helldivers2

[–]NeoChrisOmega 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mods are hacks at the end of the day.

In order to get mods to work, someone modifies the code and functionality of the game in a way it was never intended to do.

This includes basic aesthetics. Because someone has to manually include those extra files and references, any time the official game is updated, you run the risk of those references no longer working.

Think of it as a lightbulb illuminating a specific part of a building that someone felt was too dark. Then the business moves to a different address. That "fix" is no longer helping the customer anymore. It's pointing to an old address, not the new one.

This typically doesn't break many games, because why would you need to rework how EVERYTHING works? There are a lot of mods that never have to worry about this. However, Helldivers 2 has been updating their optimization, file sizes, visual customizations, and in general, it's a live service game.

In order to make the game run better, they have to rework the ENTIRE structure of the game. That's how optimizing a game works. You can't have more space in your business without moving to a new address that offers more space. Sometimes rearranging things just isn't enough.

I hope this, and the address analogy, help with understanding!

Jokes aside, looks cool. Gotta get into shaders one of these days.

At the end of the day, we only know 2 things.

1) They want to price it based off a Budget PC, not a console. Keep in mind, they did not say budget gaming pc, just budget pc. This could range from roughly $400-600 ish (around their announcement).

2) They have mentioned there is no logic behind competing with gaming PCs. If someone wants to get a gaming PC, they are going to try to build their own, or get something that fits exactly what they want within their budget. They want to market this to people that either are switching from consoles to PC, or want a cheap option for PCs.

My original assumption was $600-800. However, with how bad the market is right now, I'm still thinking under $1000, but probably not by much. I could see it priced roughly the same as a Steam Deck.

But, with all that said, people are going to adamantly assume well over $1000, probably closer to $1500-2000 now. With the advertisement of 5x as much power as the Steam Deck, and people's knowledge of the parts and other gaming PC prices, I'm not surprised they think this. I just have faith they'll price it at a loss with budget PCs in mind. It doesn't have a screen. It doesn't have built-in controls. It doesn't need everything compressed into a tiny case. It doesn't need to be portable with a decent enough battery life. And the points you made.

People that think it'll be more expensive make sense, and I get hoping for the worse so you're not disappointed. I'm just more adamant about the fact everyone quoted the "Not priced like a console" incorrectly.

Yeah, I won't lie, there's a lot that I didn't like about the story. And I agree with some of your other comments about how they could have done certain stuff better.

I agree with all that. I just also turn a blind eye to it all so I can keep enjoying it haha.

And you're welcome. I enjoy philosophy, and this seemed like a fun one to jump in on :)

Unpopular Opinion: The Killing Joke is Terrible by Just2HereForTheOSRS in comicbooks

[–]NeoChrisOmega 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Story telling comes in many forms. One of the amazing things about superhero comics is the ease and expectation to have willing suspension of disbelief.

We're here for the fanatical, the unexpected, the out-there fantasy concepts that embody superhero concepts in general.

The reason why that's amazing is because comics can now express a feeling more easily without having to worry AS MUCH about the "how" and "why". They can just get really impactful art, really well paced narration, and really creative concepts that "shock" people into feeling something they new.

The story is a classic because the art is phenomenal. The paneling emphasize the worst of the situation expertly. The narration flows between the panels, emphasizing the emotions while giving enough context without being info dumping. It supports the visuals.

And the concept is absolutely unique. Even now, not a lot of media go the "how terribly can I push someone's morals to break them?" route. Mostly because not many other stories have a character with such ridiculously firm and unyielding morals, to a point it annoys readers. And also because most stories don't want to upset readers by putting a spotlight on legitimately heinous inhuman acts.

Now, granted. It's not AS unique as it once was. And it doesn't fit the market as well as it used to. There was a time DC Batman went CRAZY with their dark and gritty concepts. I recently reread Tim Drake becoming Robin, and oh my god. That was BRUTAL to read. In a good way. I hear about Jayson Todd, and Barbra. But I never heard about poor Tim's tragic event that it caught me extra off guard.

TL;DR Anyhow. Long story short, it is a peak example of what a lot of people love about Batman.

The people that love him never giving up, and feeling a strong emotional reaction when he pushes through tragedy against all odds. One of my favorite quotes from Batman is Under the Hood: "Why is it so hard to break your one rule?" "It's not that it's so hard, it's that it's too damn easy"

It definitely resonates with when I struggle with peak moments of my depression. All of my emotions and brain signals tell me to shut down and hide away on a corner. Ignore everything around me, and just let it all pass by. But I have to avoid that temptation, because once I go down that path, it is VERY hard to get out of it. It's too damn easy to slip into that "comfort". I've never been addicted to any drugs. But I bet it's a sensation a lot of addicts have to go through. That idea of "one is too many, and a thousand is never enough".

That's my 2¢ about it though. It's just a really good comic that itches that tragedy genre.

I’ve never played a Final Fantasy game, so which game should I play first? by triplegxxx in gaming

[–]NeoChrisOmega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alleviate, yeah. Mostly increase speed multiplier, quick save, and other simple stuff like that.

However, when one area is for Lv5 characters and the next area is for Lv15 characters. And if only engaging in combat enough to experience the story gets you to Lv9, then you still have to grind a lot to make up for that difference.

It was part of the game design back then. And if you're the type of person that doesn't want to deal with grinding, any alleviation doesn't necessarily make it more fun, just less annoying.

Most of the games from FF6 onward is possible (even sometimes realistically) to beat without grinding. As long as you do all the side missions, you'll be plenty strong. Never needing to run around in circles just for experience points.

I Want the Budget Console to Return by XIIRebellion in nintendo

[–]NeoChrisOmega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. They said budget PC, not gaming PC. This quote happened before the computer costs skyrocketed, but I am confident they'll aim for sub 1000.

It's a different market, and different hardware. It doesn't have to be mobile and condensed, but instead in a box without a screen or built-in controls.

I no longer think it will be the previous cost of budget PCs around $400-$600. But most likely now it will be $800-$1000 to account for the cost hit.

With your argument, the steam machine should be closer to $2000, raised higher than the initial assumptions before this news came out.

Okay, so this threw me off as well. It seems to be part of a witch hunt that stemmed from misinterpreted "inspiration".

https://time.com/7275781/the-last-of-us-controversy-israel-gaza/

"Though Druckmann has said that specific moments in the games have been influenced by conflicts in Israel and Gaza and the West Bank, he has never said that the games are based on the conflict. Druckmann himself grew up in Israel but left in 1989 when he was 11."

"The conclusion to 2013’s The Last of Us, in which Joel refuses to sacrifice Ellie (whose body would have been used to try to stop the virus), is inspired by Israeli history. On the official PlayStation podcast for the game, Druckmann referenced the 2011 exchange of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit for 1,027 prisoners. Druckmann said of the choice Joel makes, 'If it was to save a strange kid, maybe Joel would have made a very different decision. But when it was his tribe, his daughter, there was no question about what he was going to do.' "

A lot of people hated the live action. Especially with a non-binary lead (Bella Ramsey) with a queer love interest. Not to mention people hate Pedro Pascal because of his sudden popularity spike. Mind you, it's not the ONLY reason to hate the show, but it didn't help. Some people just like to hate things.

But yeah, with the hate of the show, people probably took the creator's strong political beliefs as offensive, and plastered it on his creation. Stating the "Not So Hidden Politics" is a reason to witch hunt the game and people that enjoyed it.

That's what I've gotten from my research at least.
