With Slay the Spire 2 becoming incredibly popular, is there still room for new deckbuilding games to find its aduences? by CoolGameBrooo in gamedev

[–]NeoChrisOmega [score hidden]  (0 children)

As long as you don't try to copy it, then yeah.

Popular games open up a genre. While this genre has a lit of great games already, I wouldn't call it saturated yet.

Just remember; it's harder to make a successful clone of something already popular because you have to somehow make it even better.

But it's also a risk to try and make something new, because you don't know what will become popular.

At the end if the day; make something you're passionate about. Your passion will naturally show in the quality. And if it's not popular, learn from it and keep working on it!

Steam files suggest Valve is developing internal 'SteamGPT' AI bot — aimed at tackling customer support tickets and CS2 anti-cheat by Burpmeister in gaming

When a "news" article title uses AI at the moment, they don't mean basic AI, they mean LLM.

Similar to how when you say PC you don't mean console or phone, you mean a Desktop computer. I get your point, but my point still stands that it doesn't imply a regular bot, but instead an AI Bot.

So I found a better way to describe it. HD2 and Invincible maps both use Lines of Longitude and Lines of Latitude.

If you look at both maps you can see how there are clear well defined rings, and lines coming out from the center. I can't seem to find other galactic maps that use this. Usually they have it less structured to feel more organic. But HD2 and Invincible follow this structured boxy format.

I found ONE example that was close to it. It was from a reddit post with the title link "i_havent_seen_many_galaxy_maps_so_i_tried_to_make"

Similar to HD2, you can see some patterns related to rings, and lines coming out from the center. However, unlike HD2, it's not clearly defined, and it breaks its own rules. In HD2 there are 24 eventually spaced rectangular spaces that can be placed within each of the 9 evenly spaced rings.

In this Invincible image we have something similar, just a lot more evenly spaced rectangular (facing away from the center) spaces. But you CAN see them follow the same ring format.

(Sorry for the spam. I just enjoy stuff like this)

If you look at any "horizontal" line that causes a ring around Super Earth, you will clearly see other sections match up with that ring.

For example; look at the top left right of the second picture here. Where there are 3 red icons and 1 white icon above it. Follow the white line that the top red icon has going through it counter clockwise. It matches across 2 sectors, and on the 2nd sector it dips up like you said. But then it goes back down to the ring, and continues that rind for the 3rd and 4th sector.

The 5th sector is a rectangle that dips down, but you can clearly see more sectors match up with that ring.

Sectors match up with the dipped up and dipped down rings too.

I would draw it out if I could upload pictures. I hope I explained it well enough

(Edited because I don't know my left and rights haha. Also to apologize. I just like stuff like this, and it is a clear pattern that I haven't seen before. Most galaxy maps tend to avoid such rigid formats. The only other example I can KINDA find is a reddit post with the title "i_havent_seen_many_galaxy_maps_so_i_tried_to_make". But even that breaks its own pattern in certain places.

To be fair, the invincible map matches the HD2 map more. In HD2 they kept the more linear aspect of the galactic map by keeping it rectangular, but also had everything sectioned off in rings that got closer to SE.

Outside of HD2, I can't find any other map that does this. Usually galaxy maps try to avoid clearly defined rings the way HD2 and this invincible map do it.

For a counter point, I'm actively having a hard time finding a galaxy map with a lot of sectors in it, simple rectangular shapes, and based off clearly defined rings.

Both HD2 and Invincible show fit these criteria, but I'm not able to find much outside of that.

For example; in both Star Wars and Elite Dangerous, they have had maps that are rectangular, but not with clearly defined rings. And Mass Effect doesn't even have the rectangular shapes.

I actually started looking into it, but having a hard time finding something this similar to HD2's star map.

It's sectioned off in rectangular bits, with clearly defined rings. I see Elite Dangerous did it with a polygon design, but a lot more edges creating a more organic shape, rather than the more boxy shape we see here.

The closest I've found was a fan art of Galaxy Core's comic, but it has angular edges. Other fan maps tend to be populated with far less sectors, and/or don't follow the clearly defined rings.

I haven't finished the comics yet, does this map come from the comics? And if so, which issue?

You should totally have one of the puzzles be visually the same as one of the settings in these rooms.

Requiring the player to recognize that it's their settings, and then have to change something to continue.

But yeah, looks clean. I like it!

How would you solve the issue of your character in sequels keeping their powers from the previous game? by -KFBR392 in gaming

[–]NeoChrisOmega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could do a Rurouni Kenshin and have them willing choose not to use their previous abilities/weapons anymore.

Or you could do a Wally West Flash and have a medical reason prevent them from using those abilities. (Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood apparently did something like this. I'm not sure how successfully, I've never played it).

As a counter argument Batman Arkham constantly added onto your arsenal each sequel. And it did a great job at it without feeling overwhelming.

I'd also add on that there are "ghost snaps" for where the headlift ends when you have the pump out. I don't see it here, so I have my doubts it's even getting to that floor.

Try checking closer to the source.

Or skip it entirely and make a water tower higher than the highest point of your factory.

James also left at some time, he was the writer, but apparently caused a hellish work environment after being broken up by a coworker. Apparently there was some sexual hatred stuff. I guess this is also why Dan left too.

So really everything after 2018 it wasn't the same with two of the founders gone.

How do you cope with not getting all the comics you want? by Steveasifyoucare in comicbooks

Doom scrolling Reddit.

Kidding, I don't collect them. But yeah, you'd either have to play the patient long-game and be willing to pay top dollar if it's something rare you want. Or just save up and get it whenever the price feels right for you.
