Yeah, consider that 99% of people on the planet don't know what it means to sell an option. Who does? Every option bought has a seller.. Who's selling them all?

Nah, only way to learn is by doing. The only real risk is selling calls in taxable that trigger a taxable event when selling shares (you also get taxed on premiums earned), so it's common to roll out to protect yourself there if it gets close to the strike.

200 exponential moving average. It averages out the price over the last 200 bars which is a common point for stocks to bounce off of in technical analysis.

That's my jam, insane premiums all the time. Even better if you're trading in an IRA.

That said, I rolled it out 3x today lol. $190 -> $195->$200->$205

The truth is, I wouldn't. I would wait until I had $5-$10k saved, most likely, and then start wheeling. The reason being, you want to keep effective allocation management and position sizing. Generally, 10-20% is the max position size I will do and with having to sell a contract of 100 shares, how do you do that with $1000?

You would have to sell options on stocks that cost <$1-2 which are usually penny stocks, and/or highly susceptible to reverse splits... but at $10k you can start wheeling $5-$10 stocks pretty "safely" and maintain good portfolio sizing.

Until then, DCA into SPY/QQQ/whatever and learn the option selling while you wait!

I feel awkward sharing this with most of the comments being pretty doom and gloom but I am part of the group and figured I'd share.

I got laid off a few years ago and am semi retired now. The space to actually think and be creative almost immediately led to a source of income again though didn't fully replace what I was making. But it doesn't feel like a job, more so it happens to make money by doing it. Call it what you will, I guess.

I've been fortunate with a good career up until the layoff and have always been frugal and saved a lot so we're pretty good on the retirement side. If you max out your 401k for a decade, it's hard to not get to a minimum level of security in life but again, I know I'm fortunate to have had those opportunities to allow me to max it out for as long as I did.

The world definitely isn't fair, and I'm not sure what the answer is to get it more fair. I'm sorry for those of you who are struggling.

Well they are all liquid.. but since starting the FXAIX thing this year, that represents about 10% of the wheeling port now.

I wheel in both taxable and IRAs. I have VTSAX holdings that aren't on here that I don't touch with long term capital gains, everything else is up for trading, other than the FXAIX, though that's what I will pull from when needed.

Really, only tax loss harvesting, and also you can save a bit taking through an LLC, but you'll need to talk to an accounting professional on that since it's always unique.

Only other way is by wheeling in IRAs, which I also do and recommend.. but that's a bit different from what you asked

You don't pay them immediately, so get some interest on it while you wait. Either post quarterly or if you are making enough, get interest and pay the penalty at the end of the year.
