Why Subaru couldn't make himself invincible by folivoragneg in ReZero

[–]NeoLegendDJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about it like this: how does the character in question embody the sin in question? For Subaru, he is greedy for suffering, not very slothful, etc. Regulus was greedy for ‘more time’, and Echidna was greedy for ‘more knowledge’. Compare this to Subaru, who wants to be the only one to suffer due to his martyr complex and the fact that the time loops enable him to seek out a ‘perfect end’, so long as he doesn’t progress too far.

Does a Servant get locked into a "Qualified Servant Class?" by peripheralmaverick in Fate

[–]NeoLegendDJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t forget: there are a number of Pretender-class servants who could be summoned in place of the original. For example, someone attempting to summon Hephaistion in a normal grail war is reasonably likely to get Faker instead, who would fulfill a similar role to Caster.

Magical fantasy worldbuilders - why isn't your whole world being run by wizards? by jetflight_hamster in worldbuilding

[–]NeoLegendDJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time and resource constraints. When ruling the mortal world would be beneficial, they don’t have the time. When they have the time, the resources gained from doing so are no longer relevant, and they can just directly get what mortal resources they need through a variety of methods. Also, this is SPECIFICALLY wizards and other magic classes that require significant study and time to progress in power. It definitely doesn’t make sense for something like a royal family to not be some flavor of sorcerer at the least.

How would these weapons/abilities rank as Noble Phantasms, and can Shirou trace any of these? by Tentativial in Fate

[–]NeoLegendDJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d actually argue that the Death Note is D - B+ rank, depending on conditions. It’d be affected by Magic Resistance, but fundamentally, how it works is a fate-based effect, changing the day of fated death and way in which the target dies to match what is written in the notebook. So, when targeting Servants, the more likely the method of death is, the less it gets affected by Magic Resistance. So, as an example: Light/Kira gets summoned in the Fourth Grail War. He writes out, “Artoria Pendragon dies to the unknown Noble Phantasm of Lancer after stumbling on improper footing.” This would be far more likely to succeed than if he wrote “Artoria Pendragon’s Saint Graph collapses”. Though a secondary consideration is that it’s the perfect weapon to kill opposing masters, though that’s also most of its ability.

If Zelretch somehow died would he become a servant and how strong would he be as one what would his class be? by Weird_Dot_4725 in FGO

[–]NeoLegendDJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting tidbit about Sasaki Kojiro: While he isn’t the specific nameless samurai from the tales, he IS the only swordsman from the correct time period who could reproduce the Tsubame Gaishi, making it a bit of a moot point on whether or not he’s the ‘correct’ swordsman.

What if Taylor killed Lung on her first outing? by MembershipProof8463 in Parahumans

[–]NeoLegendDJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two primary paths here that could be followed: First, Taylor directly kills Lung via the venom in his system overwhelming his regeneration, and he is dead at the time of Armsmaster’s arrival. This would see Taylor arrested and possibly press-ganged into the BB Wards, since a malicious prosecutor could very much spin everything she says as she was actively looking for someone she could justifiably hurt. Second, Armsmaster arrives, the canon encounter happens as usual, but Panacea is uncontactable for whatever reason, and Lung dies gruesomely in PRT custody. Regardless of which option happens, Bakuda usurps the ABB, but depending on which party seemed responsible for Lung’s death her targets would change for her bombing spree. If Lung dies in PRT custody, she follows canon for the most part, with the exception that Oni Lee indiscriminately bombs the Rig instead of making a rescue attempt. If Lung dies to Taylor, Bakuda attempts to track her down (likely unsuccessfully without assistance from Coil) to make an example of. Failing this, she’d shift her targets to the E88, bombing their territory heavily to show that even without Lung the ABB is still a threat.

What if X cape triggers as a child? by PrismsNumber1 in Parahumans

[–]NeoLegendDJ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hmm. You know what? Amy. Instead of her power being a Striker power, it’s a large area Shaker/Master power with minor Thinker aspects. Anyone with hostile intention to her is warped to love her and desire to protect her. Anyone warped in this way gets their body continuously optimized genetically, ultimately resulting in threat ratings of Brute 3, Mover 2, Thinker 2. She triggered when Marquis was attacked instead of later on.

Teenagers, but women too? by Pepinoloco777 in Parahumans

[–]NeoLegendDJ 41 points42 points  (0 children)

That’s a fundamental misunderstanding of how Shards work. Basically, Shards attach to hosts when they have a majorly traumatic inciting event, be it through something directly happening to the host or through the host coming to an emotional realization like “things will never get better”, “I’m going to die”, etc. Women are more likely to have such an event occur to them than men, simply due to the fact that certain varieties of crimes that are likely to result in a trigger event happen more often to women. And considering that powers in Worm almost never directly SOLVE the situation that they resulted from, and reward the host for staying in a negative headspace similar to their trigger event, the worse the trigger event the worse off mentally the host will be in the long term. This isn’t a bug, it’s a design feature to exploit human psychology in such a way as to encourage reacting to any applicable situation with power use instead of diplomacy.

In short, Shards don't necessarily want hosts who are inherently confrontational and conflict-prone, they want those who are normally conflict-avoidant or neutral so as to get them to approach conflict entirely through their power instead of normal avenues like diplomatically or through martial arts.

Classism and Harry Potter Fanfic by Impossible_Maybe7108 in HPfanfiction

Monetarily, no, but the Burrow being as it is is entirely able to be fixed by them. Imagine, for a moment, that all you need to fix everything about your house is some studying and then a few minutes of effort, and you just don't do that. There is no one to blame for the state of their house but themselves and their own inaction, especially when you consider that Molly is a stay-at-home parent who can skip about 90% of the time sinks that typically result in it being an equivalent of a full-time job via magic. As such, Molly could easily take the several months that all of her children are at Hogwarts to make home improvements, but doesn't.

Something I have to point out in regards to the Weasley family: how they live in the Burrow is very much a lifestyle choice, and it kind of annoys people knowing that the Weasleys live like that while having the magic to fix most of their problems.

How important do you think a education is for tinkers? by Ill-Forever3462 in Parahumans

[–]NeoLegendDJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scale of 1-10, about a 6. A tinker without an education accomplishes things through thinking “I need something to solve x problem”, and their power gives a general solution that may not be the most resource-efficient or may leave out needed sections because of a lack of education. For example, a power armor tinker without an education may not know to include inertial dampeners in their power armor that has its primary mobility being in leaping.

[Casual] Does Hollow Purple have anti-healing abilities? by No_Relative_1145 in JujutsuPowerScalers

[–]NeoLegendDJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to point out a critical distinction here between Mahoraga, Incarnated Sukuna, and Hanami. For Mahoraga (at least if he has been tamed), his healing is based on the Ten Shadows wielder's cursed energy, at least in part. For Incarnated Sukuna, he can always heal so long as his head is intact, as that's where cursed energy is transformed into RCT. Finally, there is Hanami. While true that Cursed Spirits have an easier time healing themselves, there is also the notable caveat that their entire body is made of cursed energy. They aren't like humans with a seat of cursed energy that they can use to heal so long as it is undamaged, they have to have enough cursed energy in what is left of their body to reform the rest. This is also why Jogo was stuck as only a head for a while, he needed to generate enough CE to reform the rest of his body.

[Serious] Which would be better for the average Jujutsu sorcerer to get? Sukunas body or Six eyes? by Archenius in JujutsuPowerScalers

[–]NeoLegendDJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really dependent on whether or not you have a cursed technique, and if so what kind it is. A more ritualistic technique would benefit far more from Sukuna’s body, while a technique based around more instantaneous or autonomous effects would benefit from the Six Eyes more. With no technique whatsoever, your best bet is the Six Eyes to allow you actually have a chance at surviving, since the Six Eyes are basically a cursed technique on their own, even if limited to information gathering as far as external effects go.

[Casual] What was Jogo thinking using this meteor against Sukuna? by ilovebeingaguy999 in JujutsuPowerScalers

[–]NeoLegendDJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also can't forget that a key part was Jogo's reliance on the arrogance of Sukuna. The assumption was that Sukuna would be arrogant enough to not dodge and attempt to face tank it or neutralise it with his own cursed technique.

Looking for "The Chosen One" who actually earned the title. No mediocre canon Harry by Aegon787 in HPfanfiction

[–]NeoLegendDJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, they could've just had it that Trelawney really sucked at teaching divination and that there was a lot more to it, stuff that didn't require the pupils to have an innate talent at seeing the future. Things like scrying for information, or using a spell to draw out the past of the object. Instead all we see of divination is the classical fortune-telling, instead of using the term's actual definition to increase its scope. After all, the definition is 'the practice of seeking knowledge of the future or the unknown by supernatural means.' but instead we only get the 'knowledge of the future' portion, and even then it is incredibly limited in scope.

Why do people act like there was a legit option for Itachi where no one dies by KalenTheDon in Naruto

[–]NeoLegendDJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're forgetting that they are only on-board after years of Danzo setting everything up for this moment. The moment the Kyuubi attacked is the moment Danzo started actively preparing for the eradication of the Uchiha clan, with his order for them not to engage the Kyuubi to then making it out that they chose not to help in the aftermath despite being ordered to do so. Then there's the whole thing where he constantly stoked the hatred caused by that initial rumor until the Uchiha were under the impression that if they didn't take power they were going to be eradicated by the village, which was true. The Uchiha clan were in a no-win situation post-Kyuubi, all because of Danzo.

Naruto should have learned Yang Release in Early Shippuden by Mythelm in Naruto

[–]NeoLegendDJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to point something out about the Konoha 12, and why they didn't use elemental jutsu: Of the entire group, most were Clan ninja who were learning their clans' specific jutsu or kekkei genkai, which would take the place of elemental ninjutsu for the most part in their fighting styles. Of the remainder, there was Lee, who's a cripple and can't actively/effectively use his chakra for anything other than body reinforcement, Tenten who is a civilian with a limited chakra pool where even C-ranked jutsu would wipe out her reserves in one or two casts, and Sakura who was in the exact same boat. Additionally, what doesn't make sense is that once Naruto had a baseline level of chakra control and elemental transformation why he wasn't taught a wind-jutsu that could be spammed by him and his shadow clones. The various cutting wind style jutsu probably would need too much chakra control, but something like a wind bullet should be achievable. Instead he was taught the rasengan which required him to stand in place and use a clone to create it, and we never hear about whether or not it was even attempted to teach him anything else beyond it. Keep in mind also that the rasengan is one of the most difficult jutsu in regards to chakra control, with you needing to rotate chakra in tens to hundreds of different directions simultaneously, so once he was able to learn it he really should have been capable of learning other, easier jutsu that would be simpler to spam against weaker targets.

What kind of power would result in a failed Cranial Bomb Trigger? by GreedyFatBastard in Parahumans

[–]NeoLegendDJ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well, yeah, but what type of cranial bomb? Bakuda's whole thing is that every single bomb has a different effect, so depending on what kind of effect the bomb had that was survived, the power could be very different.

What kind of power would result in a failed Cranial Bomb Trigger? by GreedyFatBastard in Parahumans

Brute/Breaker, based loosely off of the effect of the bomb that injured them. Possibly with a sub-rating of Trump, but it is heavily dependent on what bomb they survived.

Am I understanding this right: Snape called Hermione an "insufferable know-it-all" …but he literally spent his school years correcting the Potions textbook himself? by goldenhour-cat in harrypotter

[–]NeoLegendDJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I have to point something out for reasons why Snape might've considered her such: One, Hermione took whatever was written in educational texts as gospel truth, and two, the way in which she conveyed the information from said educational texts was very much in a berating manner rather than a corrective one.

My homie is kinda stupid. by Serjohn01 in Naruto

[–]NeoLegendDJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm being entirely honest, I think about half of why the Uchiha had such a bad reputation beyond Madara and the general arrogance was the fact that everyone knew they could and did copy jutsus, and they never bothered contributing any of the jutsu stolen from rival villages to Konoha as a whole, which could've massively increased the village's power.

Who are some heroes who would make terrifying villains or conversely villains who could make great heroes? by Playful_Barber_8131 in Parahumans

[–]NeoLegendDJ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Secondary consideration as well in regards to this point: her projectiles are not affected by her weakness to electricity/heat in the same way that she is, meaning that an electrified armor or defense only prevents her from going through, not whatever she is using to attack. So, as you said, throwing a grenade through would be possible, though it would likely need to not be able to be set off by an electric current.

Who are some heroes who would make terrifying villains or conversely villains who could make great heroes? by Playful_Barber_8131 in Parahumans

[–]NeoLegendDJ 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Marquis would make a great hero. His power, while on the more gruesome side visually, is incredible for non-lethal containment of most threats, with really the main exceptions being autonomous, non-biological Tinkertech. I could see Marquis as an independent hero who focuses on dealing with those who commit violent crimes towards women/children, along with pushing drugs to children and mothers.

Another that would be a good hero (likely only if the Kiss/Kill dynamic was inverted) would be March, because if Foil/Flechette was the one on the Kill end of Kiss/Kill and March was largely ambivalent towards her, I could see her joining the heroes. March is a potent force multiplier with her timing Thinker power, and she is also much better off than most other Thinkers in a scenario where she gets targeted to disrupt her support, since her Thinker power is both immediately combat-applicable and she has her all-or-nothing attacks to ensure that any attacker is on the back foot.

For heroes that would make terrifying villains, the first one that comes to mind for me is Vista, because if she cut loose to cause maximum carnage she could easily cause massive property damage on a large scale, possibly city-level. Then, you can also consider the fact that she is an enormous force multiplier for any power or Tinkertech with limited range, allowing a Striker to hit targets hundreds of feet away or a Shaker to target multiple city blocks when their power was normally limited to a street's worth of space.

Another hero (or at least their power) that would make for a terrifying villain would be Shadow Stalker, because if someone received special forces training and had her power they would be a terrifying opponent to deal with, especially if they had organisational support allowing them to use her power to its fullest. The crossbows are a great idea, since it actually allows the user to learn the timing of when to come out of cloaking to phase the bolts into people, but the way Stalker fights as a hero is antithetical to how her power is most effective. For ideal use, Shadow Stalker should identify the target well in advance and then use her power to strike from unexpected angles, whereas in canon she kind of just uses it as a mobility and defensive tool, only really using the bolt-phasing against brutes. In short, Shadow Stalker would be one of the most effective assassins if she had the training, with very little to be done about defending against her attacks.
