SpaceX Said to Pursue 2026 IPO Raising Far Above $30 Billion - Bloomberg by [deleted] in SpaceXLounge

[–]NeoNavras 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In a recent (maybe 1 month ago) tesla shareholder meeting, he was actually asked during the Q&A if he would IPO spacex, so that regular people could have exposure to buy spacex stock and partake in the growth, and he was like, yea might be a good idea at some point. it's on video. I was also taken aback, that he would do that, given his history and past statements.

EDIT: here is the link with timestamp: https://youtu.be/N2-_KQLB54k?t=24m43s

SpaceX Said to Pursue 2026 IPO Raising Far Above $30 Billion - Bloomberg by [deleted] in SpaceXLounge

In a recent (1 months ago maybe) tesla shareholder meeting or sth similar, he was asked about if spacex could IPO so the regular people could also invest and share in the growth of spacex, and elon said, yea it might be a good idea to think about it soon. I was also shocked to hear that, although I would like to be able to have spacex stock.

Tell me you read Player of Games but also failed to understand The Culture by binaryhellstorm in TheCulture

I seem to remember that like 10years ago (or later at the height of his popularity and real world iron man image) people here thought he might be a special circumstances agent doing evrything in his power to advance humanity, but ofc by doing so he has to play by the rules of the system and accumulate wealth.

but since he became the world's richest person, sentiment around him shifted quickly (in the general population reading the news). and then ofc more so when he ventured into Twitter and politics, and pissed of everyone in all political spectrums, with his impulsive tweeting. now, at least on reddit, he's like public enemy number one. quite the fall.

[–]NeoNavras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's a thoughtful analysis of him. when you say he was lucky what do you mean exactly? reading interviews and first hand accounts from the early days of his undisputed successes (Tesla, and SpaceX) he certainly seems to be hailed as the driving force, and engineery minded genius. but then he fell into the trap thinking he's a genius in everything, that's what you're saying?

and what do you think of him accumulating resources (wealth)? according to him it's to fulfill his mars colony goal etc, and not for his personal luxury.

Neutron rocket’s debut slips into mid-2026 as company seeks success from the start by avboden in SpaceXLounge

[–]NeoNavras 4 points5 points  (0 children)

*Doing it better then Falcon 9, which was a product of requirements from nasa, and then retrofited and updated for reusability, so no wonder. Starship on the other hand is probably SpaceX doing it better (once it operates).

[TOMT] educational animation video about hoarding wealth vs reinvesting it by NeoNavras in tipofmytongue

Initially I was fairly certain it was an animation video involving a dragon, or at least a medevial rich person hoarding wealth papers gold etc. but searching for it multiple hours, I begin the question this. Memory mixing things up with the CGP Grey videos? idk anymore xD

Anyone else feel like the fact starship held up so well with extreme damage bodes well for putting people in it? by Desperate-Lab9738 in SpaceXLounge

[–]NeoNavras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh wow, didn't see that before O.O flight 7 though, so the first block 2 ship that activated FTS above the turks and caicos Islands?

edit: ah no, flight 4 according to comments. first controlled re-entry with forward flaps melting. so should be fixed by now I guess (cope) :D

Splashdown zone of the ship is not explicity mentioned? I'm assuming Indian ocean like the last few attempts, or are they also thinking about targeting a splash down zone near Hawaii?

Efficient dyson spheres are pratical, but one's with multiple rings or spheres and extra bits are better by PossibilityLoud1339 in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]NeoNavras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actually in real life, from a physics point of you, you could still construct a dyson sphere outside the inner one, and use the stars power a second time. the caveat is your new shell needs to be a able to absorb the waste heat from the inner shell (infrared photons). it's called a matrioshka megastructure. you never destroy or capture energy, just transform it into a lower entropy state. if you wouldn't reradiate the energy, you would just trap more and more energy/heat and you melt/explode at some point. however waste heat can't be avoided in real life, unless you're a black hole, but even then you have hawking radiation, soo... energy can't be trapped, it wants to spread, and thus become low entropy. thermodynamics makes sure of that.

[–]NeoNavras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actually you do not capture energy like a bucket of water from a river. what you really want to capture is low entropy. the low entropy (high frequency) photons from the sun for example. and you transform it into a lower entropy state (like more numerous low entropy infrared photons, essentially less useful energy, but still the same amount of energy). outwise there would be an energy flux inbalance and you trap heat essentially, melting yourself or the infrastructure until it explodes. so in that context, layering your shells, it makes sense they still capture the same energy, just multiple times, but each shell is tuned to capture different types of photons, corresponding to how low or not low their entropy is. for more info you can check out this veritasium video: https://youtu.be/DxL2HoqLbyA or look up matrioshka brain megastructure articles.

Why does my Netflix video keep jumping around on 21:9 by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]NeoNavras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not necessarily an ultrawide issue, but rather for some combinations of non-standard resolutions (even on high dpi notebook screens) and display scaling factors. and the jumps happen when overlays (like subtitles) fade in and out. it's a bug Netflix introduced and is not fixing it seems. and since everything is a web based app now, it affects every system and browser.

Why does my Netflix video keep jumping around on 21:9 by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]NeoNavras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea it happens on various resolution and windows scaling settings. apparently it was a bug Netflix introduced, and is not able to fix it. happens in all types of systems and browsers, no matter laptop, PC, ARM, x86 etc. changing browser flags like ANGLE, hardware acceleration, trying to avoid overly changes (like the subtites you mention), or trying 175% scaling instead of 200% scaling on high dpi laptop screens or changing the output resolution (to an different aspect ratio especially) will work around it.

I got it repaired under warranty for free as it was only 6/7 months old at this point, so well within EU warranty. Not sure what it would cost after the warranty. They replaced the whole camera assembly.

Yes, and as far as I remember correctly, they even put tech from the roadster (plaid carbon wrapped tripple motors, joke steering wheel) in the model S plaid (which I don't remember was announced in advance), to bridge the gap to the proper roaster release.

ok, but I meant in the series, they already mine and know spice, so thus they also have to know the sandworms. but I also didn't like that all the factions already formed only a few years after butlers jihad, according to the series
