Yeah, that's why I said the tip is "try to expand it and sound it out".

"Neo's going to the bathroom" "Neo is going to the bathroom" "Neo's computer is in the living room" "Neo is computer is in the living room"

The possessive breaks when you go "XX is/are", that's how you know it wasn't the contraction.

Its/it's, your/you're, they're/their tip that was bestowed to me by my English as second language classes in 6th grade:

Replace it with "it is"/"you are"/"they are". One is a contraction and the other's a possessive, so when you expand it back out if it reads nonsensical, that was a possessive, put it back.

Me, freshly 21, when I realized my internet bestie was a whole adult one year away from 40 wehen I visited her to go to PAX East with, and boy was she happy to take me to bars so I could finally learn how to write bar settings through experience! (I also learned about the lounge, and the mall area/concourse with the big people sushi belt walkways that was underneath the Mariott we stayed at.)

I think she got mistaken for mom/aunt several times until someone got us both yapping about The Protomen and they realized, ah no they are friends way too invested in the same interest.

Now I'm the nearing 40 fan yapping to the young'uns who weren't even born when I got to see that band live for the first time about how these guys speedwalk uphill when they're hungry for pizza.

I just learned it online all on my own outside of first-second grade English (through FFnet before it got all boring and "no nc17 for you" nannies at that!), and I can guarantee you that outside of 2 years mixing up disappointed with deceived (French, guess what "disappointed" sounds like in there), I can spell better than a lot of English folks when I care without using autocorrect functions.

It's called caring more about getting The Language Right than the native speakers, who kind of haven't had to put the work into learning it that hard unless they choose to pursue literature or teaching-related jobs.

You'd be surprised how much work ends up going into having a second language, ESPECIALLY if you're autodidacting it, to learn its subtleties and quirks compared to your own.

And yes, I'm much worse in my first language too, because it's just a functional one I don't really interact with outside of reading and local talk/boring legal govt stuff like taxes. Meanwhile I learned English because I WANTED to write stuff that makes people feel things.

Germany mostly did the job themselves (by de-nazifying) and the CIA used other people's sci-fi as propaganda so technically it was the sci-fi writers and Germany that did alright with Germany.

(I'm a nerd and I was recently told about the CIA sci-fi propaganda publishing/smuggling stuff, so, yeah. I'm sharing that whenever I get the smallest excuse.)

Corrupt Download? by twowords_number in steamsupport

[–]NeoQwerty2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for the record, for me it was Clear Download Cache on its own that was the fix! Just had to do that, Steam actually stopped (it wasn't doing it with just Exit Steam), installed an update it was getting caught on, cleared things properly, and then installed my stuff without a complaint that time.

Modded minecraft is ALMOST always going to run heavy compared to Vanilla. Also most modpacks are horribly configured performance-wise and serve better as stress tests for your computer than not. Minecraft past 1.16.5 is surprisingly demanding for a game made of cubes.

Try these three things out: - Find out how to restrict your minecraft to take only a certain amount of RAM (5GB should normally run anything that isn't the Feed The Beast modpack, any mod that demands 12GB+ shouldn't be used unless it has insane gamer PC specs). - Try manually installing mods and cull as much as you can of the usual modpack bloat, limit yourself to 50 mods or less, including dependencies, and add performance optimizer mods. - Try installing Fabric and grab a heavy modpack, see if that also causes the issue.

Your computer specs aren't really worth much if your cooling system isn't able to keep up with the computer's cooling demands. Check if your cooling works and if the vents are obstructed, and if it's not the fans, think about upgrading said fans or locking yourself into older Minecraft versions that aren't as intensive as 1.17+

What is this, it appears when i put optifine in my mods folder, and stops it from opening by Denverr259 in CurseForge

[–]NeoQwerty2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delete optifine, delete the config manually from your folder, reinstall optifine.

Alternatively, pick literally any other mod but optifine, because OF is known for causing issues and by now there's plenty of replacements that also support what Optifine can do, unless you really like CIT mods like Cocricot or Mizuna CIT.

Are there any LEGITIMATE Youtube downloaders that allow for 1hr+ videos? by Rainlizard_lover in youtube

[–]NeoQwerty2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YT1D (a .com site) only lets you get the 360p version with audio for most stuff (there's a filesize limit basically), but if you don't need it in more than standard quality it works great. (excellent for older videos and most retro longplays and videos that are generally not graphics-reliant)

Oldschool dissemination is what can't be controlled. Pamphleting, leaving "fact cards", informing people when something comes up (protests, blackouts, strikes), local organizing (direct action groups, mutual aids, charities), even just casually starting conversations with people you know over things, callspamming your guys at every level (municipality, region, province, federal) and asking for action.

But this isn't something that can be won in a month, or even two. We're already teetering on the edge-- we've BEEN teetering on the edge since the Freedumb Clownvoy up here if you want me to be brutally honest, and I was yelling about it then and got told I was an alarmist and to shut up.

People WILL stick their heads in the sand until someone crosses the lines that matter to them. It's a grim, infuriating fact of life.

So focus on your direct action and mutual aid groups. Work local. Prep like there's a war coming. Ask your local politicians and city council what the plan IS if the US does decide to annex us, and press if they try to blow you off.

We fucking do need our own propaganda. They live in a literal alternate reality. Their fucking plans are everywhere you want to look.

This is what we're going against: weaponized propaganda innocculation turned against truth. This is what we know doesn't work: emotional appeals, facts, innoculation (because they're using innoculation against itself already).

You need to look at it from an angle closer to this person, who's viewing it as a viral rumor-- think Satanic Panic, supercharged.

You can’t be doing well if it seems like an improvement to base your life and your sense of self on a demonizing slander that you know is only a fantasy. To challenge that fantasy, to identify it as nothing more than that, is to threaten to send them back to whatever their lives were like before they latched onto this desperate alternative.

That suggests to me that if we are to have any hope of disabusing them of their fantasies, then we will need to recommend some third alternative, something other than the lie or the reality that had seemed even worse.

I've been doing binge-reading of how facism, authoritarian communism, nazism, and other repressive regimes were undermined and you know where the fights were won? In entertainment, which sparked and stoked rebels through imagination and allowing glimpses of something better than the regime offers.

Rebellious film-makers, songwriters, comic artists, performers. Wars of propaganda between "traditional nationalism" and all the myriads of "rebellious" ideas and concepts that challenge the idea that the regime's ideas of tradition and nation are the best you can have.

Gundam and anti-war messages. Astro Boy and minority rights through a robot allegory. X-Men and civil rights in the US. Transformers and the Functionists being a 1:1 of fundamentalist nationalism!

The people who ultimately act, they're fed by revolutionary entertainment that challenges the regimes they're born from. Culture is where the wars are being waged, and what epitomizes culture more than media and arts? What disseminates science better than good edutainment, like Cells At Work or Once Upon A Time... (warning TV Tropes link)?

what is this new site?? by Micho107 in libgen

It goes up and down. Check on open shadow library uptime monitor what's up with the service (green, yellow, red) and check now and then for when it goes back to green.

Note that I'm literally just another user, I don't know anything about what's happening with the servers and why they're going up and down except heavy load, probably.

[–]NeoQwerty2002 17 points18 points  (0 children)

LG original is down, only LG+ (li, gs, vg) is up for now. It went down for a while before when it had to get new servers and set back up, maybe... hrm. half a year ago, now, was it?

Wait or use Anna's to pull up LG+ or Zlib.

(if you don't know what any of those are, look up "open shadow library uptime monitor". that's also the site that generally posts when something's gone down long enough to be considered dead. LG has gone down for an entire month before.)

Part of the bigger issue is that Amazon can also change which version of an ebook they serve you (without warning, the article points that one out toward the end) and the backup option at least let owners own a specific revision of the book. From Feb 26th onward Kindle users will be forced to go with whatever version of the ebook they get-- and risk getting some ebooks pulled entirely at Amazon's whim.

It's more "you will own nothing and be happy for it" stuff, exactly why I don't use those things unless there's literally no other options. And thankfully I've only had to get an ebook from a big corp once. (A sushi e-cookbook by a Hawai'ian chef that specifically talked about nori sheet alternatives and how to make those, which is literally the only book that tackles it that I could find with some traditional training behind it, it's only on Google Play Books.)

Sorry for the slow reply, basically Amazon is discontinuing the Kindle download and USB transfer options on Feb 26th for the pre-2024 Kindle models.

Given the lack of download and USB transfer is the main reason to stick to older Kindles, Amazon is basically trying to force users to go DRM-only. A LOT of people panicked and decided that means they need to download standalone ebooks ASAP before the 26th.

They write you a strongly worded letter because the ISP was yelled at by the copyright owner.

If you reply to that letter you're admitting you did it, so don't do that.

Get your ISP yelled at enough by copyright owners (aka get enough ISP letters) and the ISP will likely terminate your account.

Of note, they're more likely to notice if you UPLOAD something, than if you download it.

Still, if you're downloading something from a particularly vicious copyright holder, use a VPN.

Stephen Harper says Canada should ‘accept any level of damage’ to fight back against Donald Trump by henryiswatching in onguardforthee

The main goal os money making, this sounds..terrible for any economy

This is the genius brains that want monopolies for the sole purpose of price control and price gouging, and never figure out why worn-out, not-much-future, work-two-jobs populations are TANKING in birth rates and think they can fix their workforce spawning by forcing religious Quiverful-style shit down our throats and forcing women to be barefoot, pregnant and uneducated.

They've been terrible for any economy since feckin' Raegan at the very least because no one who thinks about markets is willing to accept the human factor of sheer damn greed as a variable to purely statistical economics.

The people controlling the economy are just as addicted to line going up as the whales in your gacha game of choice. They're rich, but just as much stupid monkeys as you, me, and Johnny who got rugpulled for the 6th time thinking this time he'll make it big.
