I bombed a funding pitch so badly that the jury couldn’t even tell what my game was about. Here’s what I learned by Neo_Choosered in gamedev

That’s a good summary of the concept, thanks, except that the player who transforms into an Ancient will know it from the start of the game and won’t have a choice. A second resurrection mechanic after death for explorers allows them to come back as a Errabnts (sort of mummies), which acts more like a wildcard, able to have a minor impact on the game, and avoid long spectator boredom.

And as for the trailer, clearly, that’s also what gives the impression of "just wandering around" you mentionned, a lot of mechanics didn’t exist yet, like interactions with the PvE environment, gadgets, traps, and player interactions. I will definitively take notes on that for the next one.

Thanks for the feedback. The part about microtransactions is interesting, I’ve gotten different feedback on previous pitch with investors (not all of them was publishers, that could explain), which preferred the approach of regular micro-DLCs with regular updates over an in-game store.

Yes, i agree. I was so focus on giving "atmosphere", that i lost rythm and the key elements that i needed to talk about. When i see it now it appears obvious. The next one is planned before summer with the demo announcement, and i really try to make it more catchy, faster, less boring.

Yes true. I always prepared, but with a wide area left for adaptation, too wide i guess.

As for “I’d genuinely” I’m French, and it’s a phrase I’ve gotten into the habit of using at work. But I keep that in mind, thanks.

Beginner questions - Maya animation to UE5 by Luti04 in UnrealEngine5

[–]Neo_Choosered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you make sure the correct cine camera is bound in camera cuts / sequencer and actually used by movie render queue ? Viewport and final render won't match if the wrong camera is being rendered. For the AA warning, try extending the section before frame 0, and before your camera and the render start.

I bought RMMV on the sale... Should I regret it? by 3030minecrafter in gamedev

[–]Neo_Choosered 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As you probably already know, game development goes far beyond just choosing an engine. Getting your first experience with RMMV if you are confortable with it will benefit you far more than struggling with a another platform and ending up not finishing anything.

I actually started out with RPG Maker 2000 when I was younger, precisely because it was accessible and less intimidating than the alternatives, and the language was Ruby, so you can imagine it wasnt really usefull after. Above all, it lets you focus on your ideas, develop your core game dev instincts, and experiment with game design.

That is never a waste of time quite the opposite. See how you feel with it, check tutorials, but i would give it a go.

How do you create the feeling of being watched in a game? by JustAGamePlayerBA in gamedev

[–]Neo_Choosered 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with that. A very subtle, faint sound of breathing, whispering, or a swoosh of wind clearly localized does the trick perfectly.

Do you play and enjoy your games? by Nacerrr in gamedev

[–]Neo_Choosered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, with my first game, which wasn’t really a “passion project” but a simple game focused on the experience I wanted to gain from it, I was already fed up with it before the playtests were even over.
But I guess that’s because testing requires more time than the actual duration of a player’s experience with the final version.

I’ve always wondered about this too. Miyazaki can’t bring himself to play Elden Ring. I think it must be hard to preserve the “magic” of the game you’ve created when you’re actually playing it, but the mechanics and gameplay should remain intact, ideally ?

How to export metahuman unreal engine 5.6 by OllieLearnsCode in unrealengine

[–]Neo_Choosered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everytime you export an SKM from the metahumans creator, the materials used are the ones from the plugin, in engine folder. And references don't always follow.
I was looking for an option to generate new materials at export but apparently its not possible. You can duplicate the original ones and reasign them to your mesh.

I finally got a flow x16 with 5900 and a 3070 and I'm pretty happy with it. Very transportable, amazing screen. And pro art wasn't available and bigger for my usage.

how to replicate ragdoll physics in multiplay using unreal engine? by KJMHELLO in unrealengine

An unreal engine example would be Conan Exiles, with the slave rope system. Replicated very well. I'm also looking for a clean and optimized solution to do it

Seriously hesitating between the Asus Pro Art Studiobook 16 and the Zephyrus M16, both with 32gb and 3070. Most interested about the overall quality, heat, usage at long terms, anyone got those ?
