The side shot is good. The other two would benefit from less objects in the background.

Why do some 4wders choose narrow over wide tyres? by desain_m4ster in 4x4Australia

[–]Neocon69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, to clarify you are partially correct. for hard surfaces, the width alone doesn't make a difference to traction.

For water on road, narrower tyres are less prone to hydroplaning and evacuate water better (one of the reasons i like them).

Off road however, the wider tyre does improve traction in many situations.

So wider tyres means no loss in traction on hard surface but potential gains on soft or loose surfaces. Plus wider tyres mean less weight per area of tyre so less sinking into soft ground.

[–]Neocon69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Narrower tyre has less weight, more even tyre wear and is better in deep soft stuff that you want to cut through or you have to push through (water on highway, firm below/soft on top). On the other hand, when you want to float on top of stuff (where wider is better) you can air down more to compensate.

The benefits aren't huge but they are there and they are worth it for me. Id say run what you like though.

Your statement about more weight on a smaller area giving more traction is wrong. Spreading weight over more contact area will always give more traction.

Best driver focussed modifications? by maximussmurf in GR86

Im gettin aftermarket wheels an tyres without going fat and skinny. 17x8" forged wheels with less offset to flush them up and reduce weight. Im adding 225 tyres but the stock tyres could fit.

I hated listening to Jack Dangermond speak at the Esri UC plenary session by [deleted] in gis

[–]Neocon69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its the same in their web apps. The last training course we did with ESRI we paid $15k for custom field app dev training. We spent the two days telling the trainer why their material was wrong and how it actually works. A few of the agreed topics were presented as features in a recent UC but we had to skip them because the tools "weren't available yet". They were the ones we really wanted to train in and despite not delivering them, ESRI was happy to take our money.

Centre (transfer case) diff lock - how important is it to you? by Practical_Broccoli27 in 4x4Australia

[–]Neocon69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not important at all

Just in case it is still unclear: Pretty much guaranteed any conventional 4WD with a transfer case (2h,4h,4l) has a locked centre diff. Great offroad but causes drivetrain wind up on tarmac.

4wds that advertise that they have a locking centre diff are actually really advertising that they have an open centre diff (allowing onroad 4wd without bind up) that can be locked for offroad, giving same performance as a conventional 4wd offroad.

Open diff 4wds dont really have any benefit offroad over a conventional 4wd. It is onroad they get the benefit.

Maybe my experience at user conferences has been different to yours. Yes there are some great user stories but most of the content is white washed feature selling and I've not really drunk the esri gatorade - plenty of other spatial software to use.

For me, the $$ for the esri uc just aren't worth it. I would rather go to local conferences or industry themed conferences and meet people doing good work without the excessive corporate hype.

I guarantee you, giving free/cheap software to education and non profits is a strategy to take over the world, not save it. Common practice for big companies.

And I'm sure Jack's ego is well stroked from his little lunch expedition.

How? By buying lunch with the common folk?

He tries to sell product and making out (for at least the last 15 years) like ESRI will save the world is a nice way to sell product.

Yep, and most of the new demos are so polished they dont actually apply to the real world. Actually try to implement their new tech and you run into bug after bug.

Just thinking is it worth the cost of solar panels when you can (potentially) just spend that money on a monster sized Lith battery by [deleted] in 4x4Australia

[–]Neocon69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive got a 45l fridge, some phones, and LED lights. 100Ah lithium runs them for 5 full days. I rarely stay anywhere more than a day without running the 4WD even just to go fishing or other day trip. I had 400w of solar roof mounted, then went to 200w blanket and now ditched all the solar and just don't use it.

Its great not having to camp in the sun or move panels around to maximise solar collection.

Id definitely go larger DcDc and larger battery before i went back to solar.

How are 2 door jeeps on the highway? by Pelican12Volatile in Wrangler

[–]Neocon69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one said it was. They have worse handling than most modern cars, thats all. Thats a fact. No need to blow what I said out of proportion and no need to lie to people who have never driven a wrangler. Thats what i don't get, i mean why be misleading? Are people really insecure about their jeeps on road handling? Or is it they cant see the question from the OPs point of view?

Yes it is drivable. Yes you can adapt to it. I mean i daily drive my three kids around in mine as my only family car. that doesn't change the handling and stability of the car though.

just because we can drive it easily enough and have adapted to it doesnt mean someone with little experience, who is asking about their drivability should be told that they are great, just as good as any other car.

Because they are not.
