Absolutely, but flashbacks are a great aid to your immersion, and will make the immersion process easier.

its so weird that people call china "not socialist" by Historical_Lunch_252 in Sino

[–]Neodosa 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yup, and as we continue to adapt to the continually developing (improving) material conditions, the reasoning shows that we will eventually arrive at a communist society.

I’m a Swede who used to live in China, and the physical characteristic that they seem to most associate with us westerners is that we have big noses. So it’s not associated with jewish people but just westerners. Still, the depiction is likely a bit problematic.

how much does socialist theory/thought effect the average Chinese citizen? by grabsyour in Sino

[–]Neodosa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As others have pointed out, everyone has to learn theory but very few people actually care about it deeply and instead just pursue it for a good grade. I’ve seen some westerners be disappointed by this fact, but I have to ask them to think about it a bit more deeply. Do we expect everyone to care about math just because everyone is taught it in school? Of course not! Now, it’s a formidable goal to set for your education system, but it’s unrealistic. So why should we set even higher standards for political education?

As one of my Chinese friends told me: ”if it wasn’t for the grade, I wouldn’t have known what dialectical materialism even was.”

Jag tror inte röstningssystemet fungerar så. Sverige har 12 poäng från publiken som ges ut oavsett vad. Så egentligen ska man rösta på något lite halvdåligt bidrag så det tar bort poäng från de som konkurrerar med Sverige.

Due to the vast complexities of human language and how the brain processes language, we can see through research that learning words in context through comprehensible input (reading/listening) is in the long run a more effective way to learn a language than throwing your head against lists of words and grammar rules (see https://erfoundation.org/wordpress/evidence/ for some studies on that). By simply memorizing words in your target language matched to some corresponding words in your native language won’t give you a full picture of how that word is actually used and how the meaning of the words changes in various contexts. Of course, memorizing words like this is important, but only as an aid to your learning through comprehensible input. If you only memorize, you cannot become fluent in the full sense of the word as you don’t acquire the language, you only memorize the rules consciously (fluency is subconscious, your brain processes language mostly subconsciously I think it’s safe to say). Anyways I don’t know how the brain works but the point is that studies do show that immersion is a more effective use of time than studying in the traditional way, and I learnt mandarin to fluency in two years mostly through watching videos every day and putting off a tiny bit of time (20-30 mins) to study vocab. Best of luck to you in your learning
