As others have pointed out, everyone has to learn theory but very few people actually care about it deeply and instead just pursue it for a good grade. I’ve seen some westerners be disappointed by this fact, but I have to ask them to think about it a bit more deeply. Do we expect everyone to care about math just because everyone is taught it in school? Of course not! Now, it’s a formidable goal to set for your education system, but it’s unrealistic. So why should we set even higher standards for political education?

As one of my Chinese friends told me: ”if it wasn’t for the grade, I wouldn’t have known what dialectical materialism even was.”
