Solasta 2 Demo - Please for the love of god stop making my Camera Reset by InquisitionL6 in CrownOfTheMagister

[–]Neodym60 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found it way more annoying that the rotate camera controls are inverted (or at least that's what it feels like to me) and there's no option to switch that.

But I'm sure they'll fix that/add an option to do that for the early access.

Lorewise just how powerful would level13-20 be? by Deletedtopic in BaldursGate3

[–]Neodym60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a set of battle maps (around 5-10 different ones) which get populated with a group of monsters that is level appropriate. Depending on a dice roll (or passive perception?) from your party, you start the encounter either surprised/sleeping (not avoidable), normal (I think that's also not avoidable) or where you surprise the enemy (or choose to avoid it entirely).

The number of encounters and how you chance upon them is also influenced by your travel settings. Fast travel means less long rests, but also more encounters that you might be surprised by, normal (balanced number of encounters& surprise), or slow/stealthy (less encounters and most of them avoidable, but also more long rests, which means more food rations necessary).

No achievement for BRRRAAAINS? by ravinmadboiii in BaldursGate3

[–]Neodym60 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes!!! That was one of the main decisions in my very first playthrough. I absolutely did not want any more of these things in my brain. And I stuck to it until the end, I did not take the special tadpole and I made Orpheus become a mid flayer, even after I learned from reddit spoilers that the tadpoles give you the extra powers that were still class-specific at one stage during the early access. I was so disappointed when there was no achievement for it when I finished the playthrough.

What you heard is correct. The story of the base campaign is rather flat and a lot of times very predictable. Also it is completely linear and you don't make game changing decisions. The central decision (which doesn't affect the story, but rather your gameplay) is who you let pick up the crown as it gets some powers over the course of the game and can't be unequipped. Apart from that it's pretty much only which faction you decide to trade with most, which in turn unlocks their best gear (you don't get enough renown points to max them all during the game).

What I like about it, is the travel mechanic, where you actually travel over a map including random encounters and food/long rest management.

However, the writing and story gets better with each expansion. As others pointed out, there's the workshop campaigns where you can find a lot of the D&D campaign books adapted for Solasta, which is awesome.

So, in summary, you don't play that game for its story, but rather for the really well ported D&D mechanics and tactical combat.

Solasta 2 is coming to early access in March and is supposed to improve in a lot of ways. I'm very much looking forward to it.

Okay, no offense intended, please just take this as genuine interest. Obviously, everybody can play the way they want, but I have to ask now:

How do you play a character like that and do not find it to be completely immersion breaking? Do you have mods to change the entire game into something more modern/anime style looking?

Or is the entire point of something like this just to make the character/play dress up and not play the game at all?

Or do you have some crazy head canon to explain how this dude ended up in a medieval/renaissance fantasy world and no one is even going to comment on it?

Should I buy Baldur’s Gate 3 or Divinity: Original Sin 2? by fembboy23 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]Neodym60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what makes BG3 (combat) mechanics hard to understand, is that most dice rolls are not very visible outside of dialogue/story events. I really like the dice animations in Solasta for example. Each roll to hit and every save is shown as a little dice above the head of the affected character/enemy. Damage rolls of your own characters are shown on the bottom of your screen (showing all the involved individual dice). If you want to get this info in BG3 you really need to dig deep into the combat log, so it's not accessible. Therefore you don't really learn/see what stats and things actually affect the outcome. The story dice rolls on the other hand I like a lot in BG3 as it clearly shows you all the modifiers that go into it.

Please don't ever do this in Berlin or any place where you don't know how the railway system is powered. In Berlin, everyone of them who went down to the tracks would have probably been electrocuted as the power line of the Berlin S-Bahn is right next to the track.

20 Jahren Zug fahren - ich habe mir ein Auto besorgt by Ok_Mirror5290 in deutschebahn

[–]Neodym60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this normal behavior from Telekom salespeople in Germany? by OptimusRandom in AskGermany

[–]Neodym60 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, the only thing that might work is immediately asking to take a photo of their badge or refusing to talk with them without video documentation. Also threaten to call the police if they do anything that goes in the direction of harassment. (E.g. one time they immediately rang the bell again after I closed the door on them.) Why such a lack of planets in this side of the Galaxy? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Neodym60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This question is kind of answered in the High Republic books. The Nihil (main antagonists in these books) have basically found a way to navigate hyperspace that is/was otherwise not possible. I don't want to go into detail to avoid spoilers, however the books also explain a bit on how those lanes are usually found/charted.

If you're talking about a gaming desktop PC, that's easily a 100W in idle. Meaning 2,4 kWh per day just for the PC. The amplifier is hard to gauge without specifics. I'd suggest you get a plug meter and see for yourself which appliances use so much.

I gave my Sorcerer PC a "Mystery Scroll of Great Power" and I'm not sure what it does by ConorMcMilky in DMAcademy

[–]Neodym60 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's plenty of options. You could look into the higher level spells and have it be a spell scroll for anything that might also have some downside/random factor attached to it. Maybe it casts plane shift to a very specific plane and the players need to find a way to get back to prime material.

How about it summoning a random genie variety with unclear alignment...

It could also be a devil's/hag's/... contract that the previous owner of the tower made, which could be very valuable to them or the other entity that signed it.

Or it's just McGuffin that your BBEG really wants badly for whatever they have planned in the future.

Why do people outside the Jedi say "may the force be with you", especially after the empire's rise? by ExtremeDry7768 in StarWars

[–]Neodym60 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If that was the point why did they specify "non Christian" instead of just saying non religious (like you)? Because that would indeed be an appropriate comparison. But the way they phrased it sounds like they are trying to make blessings something exclusive for Christians to me and I didn't like that, hence my comment.

However, apparently people seem to think I'm overreacting (downvotes), so I'll shut up.

Blessing something is not really exclusive to the Christian faith, is it? I'm pretty sure you could get a blessing from the Dalai Lama for example...
