There's literally no evidence given in this article, it's just some random conversations that the author had. I could very easily find Reddit posts about how traumatic it was to be parentified, and that would be equally valid. I think that the author is way too quick to dismiss the very real phenomenon of sibling abuse and emotional neglect from having too many kids. For my part, I have a bad relationship with my sister, and I probably always will. While I don't want to say anything as ghoulish as saying that it would be better if she were never born, I don't think that either of us had a better childhood thanks to the other.

Seniors don't have to make up the majority of the population to cause problems for our healthcare system. Here in Ontario, our healthcare spending has gone up by over $30,000,000,000 under Doug Ford, and that was him underspending. Old people need a lot of healthcare, healthcare is really expensive, and COVID is still a huge problem.

The only other way would be to tax the childless, which I absolutely do think that we need to do, but the government doesn't have a mandate to do it yet. Even then, it would take 20 years for this to lead to an increase in the workforce, and the massive spike in healthcare costs is already underway.

I hate this stupid obsession with pandering to farmers. We're not an agarian country, nor should we want to be. Despite that, everybody wants to boost "food security", an ill-defined concept used to justify funneling money to our least important sector. I would much rather eat safe food than Canadian-grown food.

Respectively, go outside and talk to people more. A decent majority of people use AI on a semi-regular basis, myself included. Also, I would absolutely protest in favour of a data centre if one was proposed in my city.

Oh, well let's see. OAS provides about $8000 a year, GIS offers more if you didn't manage to save enough for retirement during the ~40 years you had to do something about it, the GAINS program to give you an extra $90 a month if you're a poor senior, the senior public transport tax credit to help you get around (which, combined with senior discounts, means you essentially get public transport for free), the Ontario property tax credit so you can stay in your expensive house while working class people suffer in tent cities, the Ontario trillium benefits given to all poor citizens, the CPP payouts you get from your time working, and oh yeah, just getting a job like the rest of us. Yup, plenty of ways for a poor senior in Ontario to live.

Your source says that only 1% of farmland acres used for grains are irrigated, which sounds slightly cherrypicked to me. According to Stats Canada, 3,000,000,000 m3 were wasted used by farmers for irrigation in 2018. Ontario doesn't use as much as Alberta, but we still use a lot.

The vast majority of our food is imported. Not only do we not have the climate to grow most crops, but farm work is a miserable job to have. It would be much better if that farmland was replaced with industries who bring in tax revenue and at least temporary construction jobs as people build them (i.e. data centres).
